About this property
Gorgeous, Private Home on the Yough River with Hot Tub
Yough Treehouse is located in the town of Confluence nestled in the Laurel Highlands Mountains. Our private home sits on 2 acres of land along the Youghiogheny River at the tailwaters of the dam. Surrounded by protected woods (recently purchased by Western PA Conservancy and trails are in the works), at the end of a one lane road but within walking distance to town. We are 400 yds to the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail.
Our secluded, custom build home is well equipped and clean. The open floor plan in the kitchen/living area and large deck with grill make for ideal socializing. The house has lots of windows and is bright and cheery.
Yough Treehouse can accommodate up to 6 people. We have 2 bedrooms and an open loft for sleeping and 2 full baths. The master bedroom has a king sized bed and full bath including a claw foot tub. The second bedroom has 2 twins. And the loft has a queen sized bed.
The kitchen is well equipped with everything you'll need. There is a gas grill on the deck. All linens and towels are provided. There is a TV/DVD, highspeed, wireless internet and free local calls. Verizon/Sprint/AT&T cell phones work well from the house. The house has central A/C.
Our home is kid friendly and there is a highchair and portacrib. With 4 distinct seasons, the house is available year round.
Without leaving our property you can enjoy the natural beauty of the area while relaxing on our spacious deck over looking the river. Or listen for geese, ducks and other birds on the flagstone patio with built in fire ring or while soaking the hot tub. Fly fish for trout in the well stocked tailwaters of the dam in our back yard. Watch for great blue heron, osprey or if you are lucky the bald eagles that fish here as well.
Make a day swimming and boating at the Yough Lake just around the corner. Take a break from your ride through from DC to Pittsburgh on the bike trail or spend the day biking shorter routes in either direction. Kayak or pick up a raft trip in nearby Ohiopyle. Make this the perfect retreat for trips to the 2 Frank Lloyd Wright homes Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob. We are centrally located to the ski resorts (Wisp, Seven Springs & Hidden Valley).
Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway, a family planning the ultimate recreational vacation or old friends looking for a quiet retreat our home is the perfect setting. For larger groups please consider the http://www.youghriverhouse.com/ Riverhouse just down the road (sleeps 12). Or consider renting both the Riverhouse and Treehouse. The houses are walking distance apart.
Come back year after year and explore the wonders of the Laurel Highlands.
Please note that there is a security camera/motion detection light- facing the driveway, that we use to monitor when the space is vacant.

About the host
Hosted by Kara (Treehouse)

Super short version of our story: I grew up in Confluence, learned to kayak with my family, it became my passion, I met my husband through kayaking, we got married. In 1997 we saw this little cabin with 2 acres of land on the banks of the Yough River. We bought it and happily lived there for many years but always wanted a deck, and a kitchen with a full sized fridge and closets. The "deck" turned into the house you see today. We lived there even more HAPPILY until we had kids and moved away. We struggled with selling this property until a friend suggested that we KEEP it and make it a vacation rental. In 2010 the Yough Treehouse was born. Our other business is making high end, technical whitewater kayaking gear. This taught us the value of excellent customer service. That along with being immersed in the outdoors and connoisseurs of all that the Laurel Highlands has to offer made sharing our home with guests ideal.
Why they chose this property
I grew up in Confluence and learned to love it's rivers and mountains but university and kayak racing took me away. My husband, having worked and kayaked in the area spotted a little cabin and 2 acres of land for sale on the Yough River. I knew the area well and used to do a trail run over the mountain and by the house, but never really noticed it--it blended in. I was racing in a World Cup kayak race when he faxed me the documents to sign to buy it! He knew it was a treasure.
What makes this property unique
The unique benefits of the Treehouse start with it's location. Of course it's on the Yough River and just off the GAP bike trail, but it's quiet and private, yet it's close to town. The short stroll to Lucky Dog Cafe for lunch, dinner or just a cocktail is wonderful.
The layout of the house is modern and great for a family or group gathering. If you like to cook, the kitchen is fantastic. Some highlights include: soaking in the claw foot master bath tub--or better yet, the hot tub, drinking coffee while reading the paper on the deck. There is basically no traffic on our one lane road, dead end road. And a glimpse of the bald eagles is a treat of a lifetime.
