About this property

Spacious restored Victorian w/ wraparound porch

Pen-it-men-to (noun)
The visible trace of an earlier painting beneath a layer or layers of paint on a canvas. The effect is to see something old coming through the new.

This 1867 Victorian farmhouse has been restored in the spirit of “pentimento” resulting in a charming mix of stunning details and modern amenities.

Enjoy a fully equipped chefs kitchen complete with a lounge area for watching the cook. The focal point is a gorgeous 5 burner LaCanche stove. Separate oversized refrigerator and freezer as well as a bar fridge offer plenty of space for cooking supplies. A whisper quiet dishwasher and deep copper sink make clean up a breeze. A 10 foot granite island offers generous space for multiple cooks and makes meal prep an event to be shared. It is also a dream for a private chef you may want to bring for your gathering.

Meals can be enjoyed in the adjoining breakfast room/ library or the formal dining room with a fireplace and seating for 12-14 at a round table and chairs with handpainted motifs. China, flatware and glassware for 12 along with serving dishes and an assortment of napkins and table linens make for elegant entertaining. Extra dishes are available for larger parties. The billiard room features a collection of Civil War accoutrements and art along with a fireplace adorned with an original over-mantle. The lounge is furnished with a restored antique settee and chairs and a window-seat that looks out on the patio and porch. A third fireplace is found in the comfortable family room under a 55” smart TV that adjoins the kitchen The bar has a generous assortment of glassware, an under counter drink refrigerator, and a beer tap system for an optional pony keg.

Use one of 2 staircases to ascend to four second-floor bedrooms, 2 with en-suite bathrooms. The Balcony Suite master has a sitting room, a large walk-in closet and sleeping area with a king-size iron bed, a stove and a balcony overlooking the grounds. The en-suite bathroom is done in green marble and features double basins in a reproduction wood dresser, a decked-out steam shower as well as a luxurious soaking tub. The Canopy Suite is furnished with bed steps to climb into an antique iron canopy bed, dressed with lace. A window nook is lit for relaxing with or without a book. The en-suite bathroom has a large shower. The third bedroom is the Palm Room done with Colonial style furnishings including a queen size sleigh bed with a plush mattress. The 4th bedroom is the Cowboy Room featuring a western theme featuring a full size bed and an amazing view. This bedroom also has a large desk and a wireless printer perfect for remote work or school. The hall bathroom is steps away and features a restored original claw foot tub with intricate shower fixtures and a pull-chain toilet.

Ascend to the third floor via a circular staircase, where there is another living area with a 60” TV and a pool table done in red felt and a dart board. There are 5 adjustable height stools in a nook that can be used if you need space for a wedding party to do hair and makeup. Around the corners are the Nook Rooms. The North Nook sleeps 4 in two matching queen-size beds. The South Nook sleeps 2 in a full-size bed. The nook alcoves do not have doors but do have screens for privacy. The Attic Room on the west end has a comfy queen-size bed. The third floor has its own private bathroom with a shower.

All beds are made up with soft white 400 thread count sheets. All baths are furnished with fresh white towels and specially bottled aromatherapeutic vegan toiletries.

The intricately painted wrap around porch has a mahogany floor and seating for 15-17 in a combination of elegant wicker, a repurposed church pew and charming rockers. The adjoining brick patio seats 14 including a dining table for 8 and an outdoor sectional in front of an outdoor tv perfect for keeping up with the game. A large propane grill with complementary fuel, two high-boy coolers and a bar cart make entertaining a breeze. An additional 8 seats surround a raised fire pit section with a wide wall surrounding that can seat numerous other guests. A full rack of firewood is provided for each stay. A large hot tub fills out the far corner. Spa chemicals and aromatherapy scent packets are provided. Beautiful plantings and a 3 tier fountain are a treat for the eye, while plentiful outdoor speakers allow the Sonos sound system to treat the ears.

Steps away across the lawn is a generous 18’ x 42’ salt water swimming pool with a diving board that is fenced in for safety. The pool is surrounded by cool grass and colorful plantings. Cushioned lounge chairs and umbrellas allow for plenty of poolside lounging.

The remainder of the landscape is graced with rock walls, generous flower beds and specimen trees and bushes. Near the pond is a hammock which is a great place to relax. A special highlight near the pond is an antique white iron gazebo known as the “birdcage” which is lighted at night. A unique feature is a custom see-saw and seating area made from tree trunks salvaged from the property. A tree swing is a great spot to bird watch. There is a heated outbuilding that can be used as a playhouse, a yoga house or even a camper. It can be outfitted to your needs upon request.

For extra peace of mind, there is a generator that switches on automatically in the event of a power outage.

Family reunion
We had a very pleasant stay for a momentous occasion where my wife's family and my family met for the first time. The kitchen will always be the gathering spot as both our cultures enjoy food and this kitchen proved to be an excellent space. The billiards room was also a great hang out room and the porch areas were perfect for photo taking.

Amazing Hudson Valley Retreat
This place is perfect if you’re a large group looking for a trip to the Hudson Valley (or Vassar). The house is much bigger than expected, with lots of cool features. We loved the billiards room and the outdoor fire pit. Everything was clean and well stocked. Kathleen was super responsive and very accommodating. It’s location is also great for Hudson Valley activities. I’d definitely stay here again!

Very nice place for a gathering
We enjoyed the house and it was a very nice visit. Balcony bedroom is nice the en suite bathroom is tucked back in the front. Canopy bed has en suite. Nice room. The other two bedrooms on second floor are pleasant but bathroom downstairs is best for showers etc. the alcove and third floor bedroom is not private but it worked well for us with pool table and tv. Two couples stayed up there and had fun. One small but functional bathroom. Great if you had teenagers. The saltwater pool is top notch, hot tub was nice. Fire pit looked good, kitchen worked well. Not how we would set up a kitchen. (Actual chef in family) it was very good for weekend. It had all we needed for meals and the grille was very good. Plenty of dining location choices. Pool table on first floor and Sonos sound system got a lot of use. Yard big enough for yard games. Plenty of seating for groups and getting away from groups. We had fun. The host was great.
