About this property

Quiet Cabin on 4 Dog Friendly Acres

Welcome to Big Hill Cabin!

Perched atop a grassy knoll, Big Hill Cabin provides the best of both worlds at this quiet rural location, yet only 12 minutes from the Boone city limits. The New River is less than 1.5 miles away, offering canoeing, kayaking, tubing outfitters, fishing, biking, and more. Elk Knob State Park, at 5520 feet in elevation, is a High Country favorite with hiking, camping, picnicking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing only 8 miles away. Blowing Rock and Valle Crucis are within a 25-minute drive, and Banner Elk is 40 minutes from the cabin. In a pinch, it is just 5 minutes to the nearest Dollar General from this private setting, where your closest neighbors are grazing cattle.

*Allows pets with an additional fee paid after booking. The fee is $35 per pet per day.

This classic log-style cabin has all the modern conveniences like quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, mini split A/C and heat, Swedish Blueair filtration on all levels, 2 large streaming Smart TVs, front loading washer and dryer and ping pong table in the lower level. The tall ceilings and large timber beams give a hint of rustic mountain charm to this cozy cabin. There is an expansive back deck for entertaining and eating with views of the surrounding mountains. The fire pit and picnic area are in the yard, a park-like setting with countless trees to hang your ENO-style Hammock or pitch a tent, and the unique, level 4.5 acre lot has a huge field for walking the dog, playing frisbee, or watching the kids run and play.

The entire upper level comprises the massive master bedroom with a king bed and a second living room. The seating area includes a 50-inch Smart TV with streaming and a queen-sized gel pullout sleeper sofa. This room includes a private upper balcony where you can relax, eat, or watch the wildlife in the surrounding trees. Additional guests will enjoy the main floor sofa, which converts to a queen-size sleeper with the glow of the wood-burning fireplace in view.
*Firewood available for purchase after booking.

Heaven sent
Great house - very comfortable because it was away from Boone noise but close enough to go to the store. We spent hours sitting on the front porch watching wildlife - saw a doe and fawn walk across the driveway, bunnies, squirrels and 4 turkey hens with 17 biddies. And a crazy Cardinal who spent hours every day standing on our sideview mirrors and pecking the glass. We hung up our hummingbird feeder and the birds arrived before we could even sit down. They drained one container. So nice to see all the animals. Only negative is the bathroom is up VERY steep stairs. I have two replaced hips and those were too steep for me. Otherwise, we come back again because everything was so nice.

Great experience
We visited the property with my husband our dogs. The property is on a farm land with cattle grazing in the adjoining fields. We loved taking our dogs for walks and let them run in the open field, watch the cows and chase rabbits and squirrels in the yard. The house is clean and good size for a couple or a small family. It only has one bathroom, which is upstairs so might be an issue for older ppl. The house seems to be pretty new, so the pantry isn't adequately stocked. They only had salt, pepper and garlic salt. Make sure you take your own oil and ingredients if you plan on cooking. The house is continently located about 20-30mins away from grocery stores and restaurants, so even if you forget anything its not a big deal. The only other issue I had during check in was, the management company kept coming back with more and more requests, I would prefer if they add those additional costs and questions upfront during booking and charge me once. In summary apart from the pantry and the booking process, we enjoyed our stay at this secluded cabin!
