About this property
Johnny Horn Trail House St. John Overlooking Coral Bay
Want to really get away? This 2-bedroom eco contemporary house is perched above Coral Bay, right next to a hiking trail in the U.S. Virgin Islands National Park.
“A perfect nature retreat, feels like you’re in the trees," described one reviewer.
With a deck spanning the width of the house, and lovely views of the sailboats of Coral harbor along with Bordeaux Mountain in the background, this house is secluded, yet offers proximity to the best of St. John.
Johnny Horn Trail is a well-known park hiking route -- hike 1 mile through the park to Waterlemon Cay, the island's best snorkeling with sea turtles, or head downhill to the quaint town and laid-back restaurants and bars of Coral Bay. Or hop in your 4-wheel drive (a must!) for a 10-minute trip for water sports at Cinnamon Bay and access to some of the world's finest beaches.
Repeat: A 4-wheel drive vehicle is a must to reach this house. It's not that rough -- read the reviews -- but it's up a dirt and gravel road that's steep in spots. Part of the adventure! Most visitors to St. John find a 4-wheel drive such as a Jeep is helpful for getting around the island anyway.
The house features an outdoor tropical shower and wood floors that feel good on bare feet, reminding of the island era of the Maho Bay Camp -- open-air, tree frogs singing, but with a modern touch. It's a screened house with ceiling fans and no A/C.
Wrote one recent guest: “House is nature ... amazing ... birds donkeys lizards blooming flowers ... outdoor amazing shower ... fantastic view ... all the gear you will need.”
The house is a private getaway for a couple or more. It has two open bedrooms, each with a Queen bed and one with a loft bed perfect for a child. Additionally, there is a double-size futon in the living area. The home is family-friendly and is perfect for those who like to hike and enjoy the sounds of nature.
Comes with ceiling fans, a huge sectional sofa, party lights, a hammock, a table, chairs, an umbrella, and a gas BBQ grill. The deck overlooking the sailboats of Coral Bay is spot-on for lounging, reading, dining, sunning, and star gazing.
No need to bring much: the house is stocked and ready with beach chairs & towels, nice linens, and a cooler. Hook your iPod into the stereo and fire up the blender. We have WiFi, and AT&T phones work great here (Verizon you may be out of luck). For eco sustainable vacationing, the house sports a 13,000-gallon rainwater collection cistern, with a solar hot water heater.
As another guest noted: “Magical tree house! The outdoor shower is heaven.”
