We enjoyed our stay, the kids especially liked the pool table. Big house, great views, we were right on the lake. We had a couple of small problems with the cleanliness but John took care of them right away.
The house was as advertised. It was clean, spacious, and located in a nice neighborhood. The location had nice access to main roads. The fishing from the dock provided action from bluegill and largemouth bass. Overall, a very relaxing and nice stay and we'll be back!
Stayed on this beautiful piece of property in July 2024. The nicest vacation property that I have rented in 35 years! Beautiful and well-designed home on a beautiful lake. The home has more amenities than most including kayaks, paddle boards, nice gas grill, fire pit and very large stone patio. The views of the water are amazing!!! Fishing was great and caught my biggest walleye. I will be returning next year!
The house was more than accommodating! Loved the floor plan. Plenty of rooms/beds for family of 8 with room for more. Lower level is very spacious. Open kitchen was great for cooking with plenty of space and tables for dinning. With 2 areas to lounge allowed adult kids to do what they wanted. The real gem was the backyard patio and fireplace! We spent most of our time in the backyard enjoying the lake view,. This property has a spacious area to play in the water also. Highly recommend a stay.
My family and I had a wonderful stay at the house! The water amenities - the kayaks and the stand up paddle boards were so much fun! The extra large patio with the fire pit were beautiful and we made a fire in the fire pit every night. The house was big, with 2 family rooms and a pool table which we played on everyday. The kitchen was well appointed. We hope to return there in the future!
This property is exactly as advertised, and was perfect for our family getaway. Spacious, comfortable, charming, relaxing…. Cambridge also has nice dining, coffee… options too. If in the area again, we will definitely be looking to rebook.
The house was in a perfect location, right on the lake, and had everything my group of friends needed for a comfortable stay. The well water had a pretty strong metallic smell in the showers but I think that's to be expected in the area. Communication with the owner was great. Would definitely stay here again.
Very nice, clean, spacious home (all as described). No first floor bedrooms, may be an issue if anyone in your group has trouble with stairs. Owner communication was simple, straightforward, perfect. Nice quiet neighborhood. We were near enough to Madison for our "event" that the distance (from Madison) was more of a plus. I wish I had brought a canoe (not the fault of the property!). They had inflatables and paddle boards, but the time of year we went (late fall), a canoe would have been a nice addition.

Great setting but some improvement needed
Really loved the setting and we had a great time .... but we had some significant difficulties that caused undue stress and discomfort:
1. We never received the access code through email per the VBRO communication. We needed to contact the manager for appropriate access late at night with a 5 month old. When we did get access, the access did not work again the following night when our family was returning from a reunion, also late at night. Each time, it took 15-30 minutes to reach out to the manager so we could get in.
2. The garbage cans in the garage were overflowing and had a ton of flies and really smelled. When we did get the garage access code to get into the house, the flies then came into the house. We probably killed 100 the next morning.
3. There were no towels in the master bedroom. When we went to the linen closet to get a towel, the one we got was covered in black mold stains. Recommend a deep cleaning for the home - baseboards, etc.
Wonderful setting and potential but the access and garbage were unacceptable for the price of the rental. It seemed that no one knew we were coming and had the place appropriately set up. Thank you.

BEAUTIFUL VIEW BUT DIRTY
The house itself is lovely, but the house had not been cleaned. Refrigerator was dirty, all floors dirty, bathrooms dirty, and window sills dirty. Blinds were full of dust and hadn't been cleaned in a long time. When we contacted the property manager, he was responsive and had someone come out and clean. However, when you pay a very large fee for a rental, you expect it to be clean. The garage door did not work, nor was it easy to access the front door. There was water standing int he garage, and the garage door was fixed after letting the property manager know it was broken. The patio had not been swept or hosed, and the table and chairs on the patio were also very dirty. The BBQ was also dirty.
Overall, I was very disappointed that the property had not been cleaned for our arrival. This was a big event for my family and the place was not ready. The owner's daughter-in-law was kind enough to come and clean, but that was the job of the property manager. Mr. Hammer was responsive, but my family arrived from California to a very dirty house, and patio. I would recommend that if you wish to rent this place, you make sure you talk to the property manager and make your wishes clean.
The property is way too far from Madison and is in a sleepy little town with just a few opportunities for groceries or take-out food. We were there for a graduation at the University and we spent way too much time in the car going back and forth.
There was a pipe leak of some kind. John's wife went to the place and had it fixed while we were out. The issue was resolved without us getting bothered us.
They even let us checked out late which is very nice of them.
Exactly what we were looking for an Extended Family weekend. The House was great and we'll stocked for all kinds of activities for both adults and kids. Kids enjoyed the Toys, adults the beautiful bar. We utlized the Large patio, firepit, inflatable kayaks, paddle boards and nice dock. Fishing was great off the dock plenty of sunfish and even some decent Bass. The huge side room was great for some separation of louder activites from anyone resting. Internet worked well for us too. The area was nice, enjoyed walking some along the road and town had a few restaurant options and a nice coffee shop. I think we'll plan to come back at some point.
This cottage was amazing! The property manager took care of the smallest detail - sugar and ample flour in the kitchen cabinets to bath soap and shampoo in the washrooms! Typically you won’t see that in rentals. So great to think about the little things that make an experience delightful.
The cottage is super spacious on the main floor. We were 9 of us and a dog but didn’t feel tight ATALL as there was more room to hang out than what we needed.
The open lake view is a great plus on rainy or cold days and Madison is 20 min away.
All in all a beautiful and spacious cottage!
