About this property

Beautiful Historic Colonial c.1780

We invite you to step back in time and experience “The Zadock House”…a beautiful and historic 1780 post & beam colonial updated with modern amenities!! Three bedrooms and are beautifully decorated, two include Frame TVs. The house is equipped with ultra high speed internet, and is climate control. A family parlor provides a cozy place to relax and watch tv! The entire house is heated and cooled by a new heat pump system. If you love history you will fall I love with this historic house with original wood floors, original fireplaces, and tin ceilings! We are centrally located to Worcester, Providence, and Boston!!

We are so excited to share our beautiful and historic home with guests to experience!! A number of cosmetic updates have been added that have made this historic colonial amazingly comfortable and welcoming. The bedrooms and bathroom are stunning spaces that have been designed with historic charm and modern amenities. Our goal is to preserve the house's history and character while providing an extremely comfortable experience. **Guests Please Note: The kitchen is set up for light cooking only. Our large gas stove/oven is disconnected and is not in use. We offer a small portable electric stove top for guests to use and the microwave oven doubles as a small convection oven.

The entire heating / cooling system for this house is brand new! The first floor of the house is heated by a new Mitsubishi HyperHeat heat pump system with an air handler and new ductwork. The radiators have been disconnected and the old heating system removed.

Additionally, new Mitsubishi Heat Pump systems were added that allow guests the perfect climate control in the bedrooms. The units have been installed in the ceiling to help maintain the charm and style of the home. The Samsung Frame TV can be used as a TV entertainment or as a beautiful painting if you prefer to "unplug." Ultra high speed internet is available for those that require a workspace. Both the half bath on the first floor and the full bathroom on the second floor are absolutely beautiful.

This beautiful 1780 post and beam colonial is constructed primarily of walnut. It is the original homestead of Joseph Taft; records indicate that it underwent renovations in the mid 1800's by his grandson Zadock Taft. Something to note: Historic documents show that his name was commonly spelled "Zadok" as well.

The "Zadock Taft House" is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Zadock Taft is the grandson of Joseph Taft, one of the 5 sons of Robert Taft who was the patriarch of the prominent Taft family. Zadock A. Taft (who the house is named for) is a cousin of President William Howard Taft who visited the Zadock Taft House during his presidency and noted that he had more relatives in Uxbridge than in any other town. We have searched for a picture of President Taft in the house but have not found one. An excerpt from the "Taft Family Gathering" that took place on the Uxbridge Town Common on August 12, 1874 reads, "The descendants of Joseph are widely scattered. They are outnumbered in Uxbridge, by the descendants of the second Robert. But the homestead of Captain Joseph, the monumental farm, which he was the first to clear and improve, and where he spent his whole active life, and where he died, is held firmly by his great grandson, Zadock A. Taft, Esq., to whom the descendants of Joseph from abroad, owe a many thanks for preserving it." Zadok (aka Zadock A. Taft, Esq.) was present at this gathering in Uxbridge as this was read by President William Howard Taft's father, Judge Alphonso Taft.

We are honored and feel fortunate to have acquired this beautiful home and cosmetically restore it to its historical charm. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to share this piece of history with others!
