A century later, in 2008–2009, it was lovingly transformed into a welcoming country retreat, with a thoughtful refresh in 2022. While preserving the barn’s rustic character, we infused the interior with mid-century modern design and original pieces personally curated to reflect the beauty and simplicity of that era. The result is a space that feels both timeless and inviting — a place where history, style, and comfort come together to welcome families, friends, and travelers seeking peace and room to breathe. ________________________________________

We had such a wonderful stay! The home is cute, quaint, and perfectly set in a peaceful rural setting. It was so quiet and relaxing and yet conveniently located with great access to nearby places we wanted to visit. There was plenty of space for everyone to spread out and feel comfortable, which made our stay even more enjoyable. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed, making it easy to prepare meals and feel right at home. The host was fantastic. Super communicative, responsive, and helpful throughout our stay. Thank you so much!
The listing is a bit misleading, posting as a 5-bedroom when, in fact, it is a 4-bedroom with 2 queens that can be separated with a shower curtain. That does not make it two bedrooms. It is large, it is clean, and we made it work. They need to work on the technology a bit, as the TV in the main living room is not properly set up, and the WiFi never connects. 1st world problems, but not items we should have to ask about.
Unique, fun and spacious area for multi family gathering. Although it feels very off the beaten path, the city people found it easily and appreciated the proximity to shopping and retail, as well as Grand Rapids and everything the city offers to do. The people coming from farm areas were not overwhelmed by city..best of both worldsThe rooms are large and spaced well enough that no one feels right on top of anyone... dining table for 10 is great!Would definitely book again!

Thank you. We enjoyed having you and your family stay at Barn Swallow. Everything looked great when you left. Come back anytime
Lovely property. We gathered for a family Christmas, four separate families with kids ranging from 7-15. The home is spacious and had plenty of room to meet our needs. There is so much space!! The kitchen was fully stocked with everything that we could need. We loved the retro decor and it was neat to have the Christmas decorations for our celebration. Host was very communicative. Overall a great stay for us. Highly recommend!
Very roomy. Towels, soap, great blow dryer, detergent, everything we needed was there. Grill worked great. Recliners in the living room and grab bars in the bathroom. Great for older people.

We're so happy that you enjoyed your stay at Barn Swallow - it was wonderful to have you!
Very spacious house with room for everyone in our group of 9 adults. Nice outdoor area for enjoying the views and wildlife. The home is welcoming, relaxing, and has all the amenities you can ask for. We will definitely book again if we visit this area of Michigan.
Great place to stay! This was our 3rd year staying here for our shopping getaway. Valerie and Diane are great hostesses who are very responsive to any questions. We are already planning to go back next year. We have 6 women in our group, a couple of them who wouldn't do well with stairs or regular bath tubs. This place has all the bedrooms on the main floor, a large living room to hang out in and a huge dining room table for playing games. Super convenient to the majority of the stores we love!

Everything was just as described on the site and more! We loved the openness and accessibility to the property, inside and outside. Very clean, friendly hosts, great communication with timely responses.
We had such a wonderful time. The place was clean and spacious, and the communication with the host was easy and quick. Easy check-in, nice location, just outside of the busyness and traffic of the city, but close enough to everything in GR!
The Barn is simply a wonderful place. Comfortable, clean, spacious, well-maintained and well-stocked with lots of little extras. We very much enjoyed being able to eat together at the large dining table. The hosts, Diane and Valerie, were immediately available to answer any question with a phone call but other than that we never saw or heard them. When I arrived on Friday evening, Diane was salting the driveway and sidewalk. The driveway was also plowed immediately after the snowfall. The Barn is a great place for a cozy family gathering!
We loved our stay at Barn Swallow! House was beautiful, very clean, and stocked with everything we could've possibly needed and more! Would highly recommend booking for a multi-family trip!

Thank you for the 5 star review of Barn Swallow. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay and we welcome you back any time you are in the area again! ~ Diane
My family (ages 61 down to 3 months) were in Grand Rapids for a wedding, and stayed longer to celebrate Christmas together. The house had toys, high chair and pack and play for the babies, and was clean for the toddlers to play on the floor. The toys and children’s’ books were so appreciated. The house was large to give everyone their space, but so cozy and comfortable for us to be together. The Christmas decorations were so fun! The kitchen had everything we needed and a nice coffee bar. The heated floors are the “bomb”It is close enough to everything we needed but was so nice in its rural location. There is room outside to run around.Valerie and Diane were very responsive and accommodating. My family was so appreciative!”

My family spent our Christmas weekend at Barn Swallow and the place was awesome. Plenty of room for everyone.

This is our second stay at Barn Swallow and it met all our needs and more. Beautiful back yard with porch to sit in and watch the wildlife. Saw deer, turkey, blue birds, barn swallows, and hawks. Special this year was the sand hill cranes! Nice and spacious, wonderful kitchen, beautiful decor. Owners are very responsive to needs or concerns. We will be back!

About the host
Hosted by Valerie Drummond - Allen
HI my name is Valerie and husbands name is Todd and our Co-Host's name is Diane. We are kind, friendly and inviting people. I have lived in the Byron Center area my whole life but Todd comes from the East side of the state. Building our Barn House was the most exciting and rewarding project and dream I have ever accomplished. There is nothing I don't like about our home, and I am blessed to have been able to save this old barn before it became dilapidated beyond repair and turn it into something so many people can enjoy. I often say this old barn has stabled cows, horses and people, but the people have loved it most! I know I do!!
Why they chose this property
Everything about Barn Swallow Manor is oversized, the total space is about 8400 & your space apprx 3700sqft. So, from the living room to the den/game room, bedrooms, dining area, porch and fenced in back yard, the size makes it very comfortable and inviting for a large range of guests. Barn Swallow is country living at its best! Quiet and peaceful yet we are centrally located and close to everything!
What makes this property unique
Probably the most unique thing about Barn Swallow, is that it is a completely renovated dairy barn in a beautiful country setting. Only 3 mins from Tanger, and 15 minutes to Grand Rapids or the Casino with beautiful surrounding fields and privacy yet so close to everything! The Barn House itself has space & more space, an added bonus that there aren't any steps coming into the barn house! Which means it's easy and accessible to everyone especially with all those suitcases.
The whole 1st level is handicap accessible and we have the walk-in tub, that you can also use the shower feature.
We have a huge 3 season porch! And a large 4 burner gas grill on the way along with a "smokeless" fire pit. (Both should be installed by the end of March if not sooner.)
The fenced in back yard has a private walking/jogging track which is another feature you don't see every day!
