What a fun weekend

We had such a great time during our stay. The lake is so big and we even got to see a few sail boats which was so cool to see. The house is very historic but decently clean. We had a few little buggies but just vacuum them up and enjoyed our stay. We had lunch at the shark shak highly recommend. We will definitely come back.

Concerns

Was a nice older home, but in need of major electrical updating. The dock that was available fire use was in Ill repair, several support brace, either broke lose or missing. Didn't enjoy having the property sitters living in the guest house, restricted the entrance to the property, and had the same use of what shoreline as the house we rented.

Great Family Time at the "Vintage"

We recently rented this property for Dad's 80th birthday celebration. It truly was like taking a step back in time and we enjoyed sharing with the younger ones the history of the building designs. Perfect weather added to the enjoyment of the property - a large patio to gather on in the front or the beautiful lakeside gave us space for all. Coffee in the am or wine in the pm on the screen porch was delightful. The large elegant dining room is charming and the small screen porch off of it is a perfect place for afternoon tea.

Step Back in Time

We rented this property for a family reunion, and found it ideal for our large group. The setting is perfect - on beautiful Green Lake, with great swimming and boating right from the dock. We spent many hours visiting on the large screened-in porch which overlooks the lake. The buildings are unique and historic - a rare old family home and charming cottage, both filled with interesting items. While the house does not have all the modern conveniences, I would recommend it for anyone looking for a rustic, memorable, lake vacation.

Great weekend getaway

This Wisconsin home is lovely. I live in the Twin Cities and wasn't sure what to expect out of the property where I would be meeting my Mom for a weekend getaway. I fell in love with both the home and cottage! The house is certainly rustic. The kitchen is older, the paintings are historic, decor is not contemporary. But the whole place is so charming! I loved the upstairs guest bedroom and how the window overlooked the lake. Eating in the dining room was fun and you felt like you were in an old mansion. Sitting in the living room in the evening is just fascinating! All the bathrooms have been well maintained. Just being in the house feels unique and special because there is so much history in each room. It is situated in a perfect spot on the lake and I adored the nearby restaurants and shops. If you are looking for a lovely, charming, inspiring spot on the lake, this is absolutely where you should go.

Slice of Heaven on Earth - Bliss

We looooooooooooooooooooooved our stay here. The setting is gorgeous - on the lake with a HUUUUGE screened in porch and a smaller cozy screened in porch off the dining room. Talk about entering another world - murals with American Indians - four poster built in beds - the dining room is STUNNING - wood paneled and furniture reminding me of Spain. Exquisite - where can anyone find this in this day and age. We loved it - me, my best friend and our two god daughters. Great location - we were able to drive to Amish country and nearly bought out the bakery!!! And went to the cheese factory. Took the girls to a concert nearby. Downtown had concerts on Wednesdays and Fridays - and fish fries. And duh- swam in the lake - boated in the lake - lived on the lake. This place is UNIQUE - if you want history - and moving back in time - and peaceful bliss - on the lake - this is it. If you want sleek and modern - this is not it. Girls were begging us to come back as we packed up to depart - and yes, we promised we would. It's so interesting how people perceive the place. I read the one star review. Funny, we loooooooooooooooved the place from the moment we saw it and opened the door. We did not have that person's experience - there's always someone who writes a scathing review. I guess that keeps it real. I wrote a book, Chemo: Secrets to Thriving. It has 36 four star reviews and one scathing review. So dear, kind, sweet owner - who was always there for us - please do not take it to heart. Roxanne Brown

Blast from the Past

I found this property to be in line with other places that I've visited such as the historic Greyfield Inn in Cumberland Island, Georgia. The cottage, once the ice house for the lake community is charming and sends the visitor back to another time period. The upstairs bedroom feels like a cozy hideaway. There were many good times sitting beside the fireplace. The main house is also from another era as it sits on a hill overlooking the lake. The formal dining room evokes memories of grand dinner parties and leisurely family meals. The lake views are stunning and a stroll around the property or a quiet moment on the dock is all one needs to rejuvenate the soul. This estate is meant for those who have an appreciation for art and history.

Spiritual rejuvenation experience

Beautiful oak trees, this historical site is on very large privagte lake front property. The home is an artwork in itself with murals, Jacobean furniture, fireplaces throughout. It imbued a feeling of times gone past...relaxing country feeling. Separate cottage for the kids was a godsend. Enjoyed the historic artistic atmosphere.

DO NOT RENT THIS PROPERTY

We rented this last summer and it is nothing like the pictures. The property is in such disrepair that we could not spend even one night there. Pain was peeling everywhere, there were piles of trash in the yard, one of the doors to the outside would not close all the way, there was a 2-3 inch gap to the outside by the window unit, window boxes were falling away from the wall. I have pictures to prove my point. The pictures posted have to be 30 years old. While I hate to post negative things, I DO NOT want someone else to have their vacation ruined. Do not rent unless you see this property in person.

I am a grateful gal who grew up in the back Cottage (known as The Gingerbread House)every summer with my dear Grandmother, Bea Reynolds Hamley Miller in the Main House and in Sarasota, Florida during the winter on Sarasota Bay. I am a composer, writer, business woman and animal advocate with a sense of humor that has come down through the ages. I learned to swim before I could walk by crawling off the pier my Grandfather John Miller and Uncle Mace built. (So I was told by my dear Mother Patsy since I was too young to remember) My Father, Dick Olson worked for Story & Clark piano, and one is in the house. My dear brother Bob and I were so lucky to grow up there and I now vicariously enjoy it through other families and people who can appreciate it's unique charm...it's not for everyone...people either love it or...not so much...so be sure it's the right fit for you. Blessings....Liz Ann, Fizz, Liz, Lizbeth Olson

Why they chose this property

This property has been in our family since 1880. My Great Uncle Towne Miller was curator of the Milwaukee History Museum in the early1900's- 1946 His character is still there! :-)) The house is fun for going back in time.

What makes this property unique

Fun, relaxing, rejuvenating, total "Green Lake" getaway. A wonderful place to swim, this spring fed lake is refreshing and uplifting.
