About this property
White Oaks--Grand, Air Conditioned Lakefront Home on Green Lake's North Shore
We invite you to enjoy our beautiful, spacious, year-round home, White Oaks, on the North Shore of Green Lake. NEW IN 2024: OUR HOUSE NOW HAS AIR CONDITIONING AND A NEW OVEN!
A popular vacation destination, the town of Green Lake is within easy walking distance from our house, but far enough away for you to enjoy the privacy our property affords. Green Lake is Wisconsin's deepest inland lake and provides ample opportunities for great fishing and water sports. Bustling in the summer, Green Lake is a serene and picturesque get-away spot for fall, winter and spring as well.
We have a private pier. Should you bring or rent a boat, we have a shore station (boat lift) to keep your boat (max. 4,000 lbs.) safely out of the water when not in use. The large, gently sloping front lawn is perfect for a variety of yard games...croquet and bean bags are our personal favorites.
Built in the late 1800's, the house, named 'White Oaks,' was significantly damaged by a fire in 1995 and was rebuilt in 1998. The house now features vintage charm with a number of features from the old house combined with modern conveniences.
The highlight of the house is the original wrap-around screened-in porch. The porch itself is huge (over 800 square feet) and is a perfect spot to relax on one of the gliders or rocking chairs and enjoy the lake breeze anytime of day, or for an al fresco dinner on the large dining table.
Inside, four bedrooms are on the main floor and each feature either a bathroom or sink for increased privacy, and all of them have a ceiling fan. In the basement, a six-person bunk room is a perfect retreat for the kids. There is some additional sleeping space on a pull-out couch and futon. The captions for the pictures of each bedroom describe the bed configurations.
On the main floor, a large eat-in kitchen is fully stocked with utensils, cookware and flatware, as well as common appliances such as coffee makers. The kitchen opens to a large dining room with a piano and loft overhead. The living room has a flat screen TV with Roku and a DVD/VCR for watching movies at night. The basement features a large recreation room with ping-pong, foosball and other games. We also offer cable and wireless internet access.
If you are a golfer, there are several excellent golf courses nearby including The Golf Courses of Lawsonia and Tuscumbia Golf Course (both of which are in Green Lake) and Mascoutin Golf Club (Berlin). Cycling enthusiasts will enjoy the trails around the lake. Other activities nearby include The 300 Club Bowl & Arcade (Green Lake) and the Marcus Campus Cinema movie theater (downtown Ripon), just in case you have a day where the weather isn't cooperating.
Whether you are looking for a golf vacation, a week of swimming, fishing and boating, or time to relax with family or friends, we welcome you to our home. We wish we were there now!

About the host
Hosted by Allen Phillip and Jennifer Hutchison

The Phillip family has owned White Oaks since the late 1940's. Now in the second generation of ownership, we use the house as a family retreat from our busy lives in Chicago and make it available for rental when we can't be there.
Why they chose this property
The house was built in the late 1800's by a family who currently owns the house nextdoor to ours. Our family bought it from the original owner in the late 1940's and has owned it ever since. The house was largely damaged by a fire in 1995, and was rebuilt a few years later.
We enjoy the town of Green Lake and all the activities that the lake provides. Green Lake is just far enough from Chicago to be a real vacation, but close enough for a quick weekend get-away.

What makes this property unique
At the lake, we love to spend time on the water--swimming, boating, water skiing and tubing. As kids, we enjoyed many days of fishing with Dad/Grandpa. Those who enjoy golfing frequent The Golf Courses at Lawsonia, Mascoutin Golf Club and Tuscumbia Golf Course. (Tuscumbia was actually designed by our relative Tom Bendelow, who designed over 600 golf courses in North America, including one at Medinah Country Club in suburban Chicago.)
In the warmer months, we enjoy reading on the porch--listening to the sounds of the lake and the singing of the birds--and evening bonfires in the fire pit down by the water.
In the cooler months, we enjoy evenings by the gas fireplace in the living room--playing cards, board games or charades, or watching movies.
