Neighbourhood description:

We are located on the historic Hoover Point in the small town of Selkirk. Hoover Point has a small mix of full-time and part-time residents that take great pride in looking out for each other and welcome respectful, kind, and caring guests. Hoover Point is made up of several private narrow gravel roads that make for a quiet, slow-paced atmosphere.

In between lounging lakeside, plan to get out and enjoy all the area has to offer. Within 30 minutes of the cottage, there is something for everyone!
*Restaurants, wineries, and breweries
*Toronto raceway, golfing, and skydiving
*Historic sites and museums
*Live music, theaters, and art galleries
*Fishing, boat launches, and beaches
*Nature trails, parks and beaches.

Selkirk and Fisherville are both within 7 minutes of the cottage and have a small general store with basic supplies, liquor, ice, a gas station, and a restaurant.

Getting around:

Ask us about our bike rentals as walking and biking are safe and encouraged however keep your eyes open as you may have to move off the roads for cars. Lakeshore Road is an incredibly beautiful road to walk, bike, or take a scenic drive along the coast.

*Be mindful that Lakeshore does not have sidewalks and has inconsistent shoulders.

Important things to note

*We are conveniently located only 1.5 hours from the GTA, Buffalo, Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, and London areas. We love that our guests can reach us without having to deal with all of the stress and frustration of the 400 highway!

*The cottage is located in rural Haldimand County where the majority of grocery stores, restaurants, healthcare services, and tourist attractions are located 20-30 minutes away.

*Lake Erie is a very large open lake that can bring strong gusts of winds and waves, which can make being in the water dangerous. You and your guests are responsible for your safety in the water.

*The water levels vary and at times the beach will be under water. From time to time, algae gets blown in along the shoreline and might bring an odour. When the wind changes, it will move on.

*Please note: We currently do not have a fence between us and one of our neighbours. Please be respectful to not allow your dogs and/or kids on their property.

*Currently to access the water, guest will have to navigate the break wall rocks. There are several great beaches close by if needed.

*The reality is that cottage living often comes with unwanted pests. Mosquitoes and black flies are rare on Lake Erie however other pests such as gnats and spiders do come to visit during the summer months. We try our best to minimize them however we do need our guests to follow some simple prevention practices during their stay.

*We are not connected to any city water or septic services. Therefore we have to get water trucked in and stored in our cistern and sewage pumped out of our septic tank. This means water is limited. We require our guests to conserve water during their stay.

* Base rate is for 4 guests. A fee will be applied for extra guests at time of reservation.

*One well trained friendly dog is permitted at our Lake House. Our cleaning team charges a fee that will be applied at time of reservation. We request dogs stay off bed and furniture and stay on leash when outside.

*$500 damage deposit required. On the day of check-in a hold for the damage deposit will be put on your credit card. It will be released 5 days after check-out minus any pre-discussed damage charges.

*Please have a read through our house rules before booking.
Our regular check-in time is 4:00pm and Check-out is 11:00am. These times are strictly enforced out of respect for our cleaning team. A $100 fee will be charged for any unapproved early check-in and/or late check-out.

*Very important* Water is not unlimited at our cottage. Please conserve your water usafe as much as possible. Bringing bottled water and paper plates is greatly appreciated.

Perfect Writing Retreat
Our stay was idyllic. The pics were amazing and the reality lived up to the hype. It was clean, comfortable, and beautiful. We wrote all day, relaxed in the hot tub during sunsets, and walked along the shore. The owners were easy to contact thought we didn’t need to often because they made everything simple and straightforward. Can’t wait to come back!

Beautiful view of Lake Erie
We enjoyed our stay here. The only con was there was no access except to climb down big rocks to the water. The water also had algae on the shore. We could’ve drove to a nearby beach. House was well kept and owners were helpful
