About this property

Gorgeous Historic Victorian - 4 bedrooms 2 bathrooms - 4 Blocks Walk to Town

Newly restored, hip, historic 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom Victorian sits just four blocks from one of the best small towns in America. This red brick beauty combines the past with the present: original hardwood floors, pocket doors, a clawfoot tub, antique furniture, and gorgeous wood ceilings with brand-new bathrooms, a fully-stocked kitchen, flat-screen TVs, a retro arcade console with 60 games, and a turn table with your favorite vinyl. Sophisticated, but also warm, inviting, and very comfortable.

The home was built in 1897. We purchased the property in September 2022 and made significant upgrades including completely redoing the kitchen and two bathrooms. The home retains the beautiful original hardwood floors, doors, casings, wood ceilings, and more. It has had a charmed history which we showcase along with all the brand new modern comfortable conveniences including two big screen smart TVs, three Alexa spots, high-speed wifi, a smart thermostat, and keyless entry. We furnished the home with a combination of antiques bought locally and brand-new pieces. With all the upgrades, the home is still 125 years old. Many of the windows are original and don’t stay open. We hope to upgrade these in the coming years. Also, with the grooves in the hardwood floors and various spots that are not airtight, no matter how much we clean there may be some residual dust. We appreciate you being a part of staying in a historic home with all her splendor and age.

BEDROOMS:
There are 4 bedrooms, all on the second floor. The main bedroom features a king-sized bed, and the other three bedrooms have queens. All bedrooms have ceiling fans, an extra blanket, and ample USB ports for all your charging needs. The sheets are of the highest quality. 400% thread count 100% long-staple cotton, sateen weave, soft and smooth by Fix Linens.

BATHROOMS:
The upstairs bathroom features a walk-in shower. We offer natural liquid soap, hand/body lotion, and combo body wash shampoo created by a local entrepreneur called KIND Soap. The downstairs bathroom offers a full-size, walk-in shower and KIND Soap products.

KITCHEN:
The kitchen is fully stocked with place settings for eight. Appliances include a blender, toaster oven, waffle maker, and mixer. The coffee maker has a pot and single-use pods. There are coffee pods in the coffee jar. There’s a kitchen island with a butcher block countertop and seating for four.

LIVING ROOM / GAME ROOM:
The living room and game room have smart TVs. There’s no cable, but there is free Netflix. Other streaming services are available, like Amazon Prime, Hulu, and more, but you will need to use your own account, so don’t forget to bring your passwords. There's also a retro arcade console with 60 old-school games, including Pac-Man, Galaga, Donkey Kong, and more!! Board games, puzzles, and books fill the shelves, so there's absolutely something for everyone.

WORK FROM HOME:
Also in the game room is a nice desk and office chair. The Internet is strong, and there are plenty of outlets to plug in countless devices.

MUSIC:
We have 3 Alexa Echo Spots – living room, dining room, and game room. You can ask Alexa to play any genre of music. We also have a turn table with over 20 records.

KIDS:
There are a variety of family-friendly board games, puzzles, coloring supplies, and a bin of Legos. There’s also the arcade console with 60 games. We have a pack-n-play, a baby gate, and a high chair for babies and toddlers.

PARKING / BACKYARD:
There's a shared driveway off the main street. Behind the house sits a covered carport with ample space for two vehicles. A third car can fit next to the carport. A small grassy area shaded by a massive pecan tree completes the back of the property.

Great spot for a girls trip
The house was adorable overall and beds were luxuriously comfy! Perfect location to walk to town and it happened to be pecan fest so we mingled with the locals. Highly recommend signing up in advance for the bus winery tour; they took us out for about an 8-hour day of five wineries, food and fun! Only downfall of the location of the house it is on very busy street so it was pretty loud when you're trying to sleep. Friday was the worst probably because of school and commuters to work; quieted some on the weekend. We are cookers and cook on our girls trips; the kitchen could use some stocking, there was only one cookie sheet that we could find, some mixing bowls and things like that would be helpful too. Great stay overall and would definitely recommend and return :)

Everything we needed
The house was very roomy for our group, and nicely furnished. We go on a family trip with our adult children each year. It can be difficult to find a place with 4 bedrooms. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and equipment. We were able to walk to many of the local stores, restaurants, and historical attractions. If you are a late sleeper there is some traffic in front of the house in the morning during the week since the house is near a school, but being able to walk so many places made up for that. We had a great time and would definitely stay again.

We are moms with two school aged kids. We live in Los Angeles, California and work in the television and film industry. When we're not hiking, biking or spending time with friends and family, we love to travel. As scuba divers, we tend to gravitate to warmer waters, but we've adore the mountains too. Whether we're getting on a plane for twelve hours, or driving just a few, experiencing new places, people, cultures, and history is life changing. Our other great love is renovation and design. We started by redoing our home, then transformed a 1970s cabin into a modern mountain escape. Dozens of 5 five star reviews later, we decided to take on a totally different challenge - renovating, restoring and furnishing a historic Victorian home in the National Park of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.

Why they chose this property

My partner Laura was born and raised in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. She lived in the historic district of town in a home built in 1850. She fondly recalls the original hardwood floors, intricate woodwork, pocket doors, stone basement and overall craftsmanship. So after getting several big construction and design projects under our belt, we started looking for a Victorian home walking distance to the quaint shops and restaurants and we came upon what would soon be called Sweet Lady Genevieve. Built in 1897, the two story red brick home was the perfect opportunity. Even though the home was over 125 years old, it was still in incredible condition. During the renovation bidding process we had contractor after contractor amazed by the condition and the original details that still existed. In our renovation, we preserved and enhanced these historic elements - original hardwood floors, casings, hardwood ceilings, pocket doors, and more. We also redid the kitchen and the bathrooms from top to bottom, modernizing while also staying true to the Victorian style. In the end, it's all the details that brings a home together - the personalized blankets, the different color themed bedrooms, the vintage Turkish rugs, the softest cotton sheets, the gorgeous walnut colored butcher block counter top on the custom made island, the comfy blue velvet couch and leather chairs, the brilliant blue hummingbird wallpaper in the entryway, the hanging stained glass in the stairway, the gold chandelier, the clawfoot tub in the main bedroom, the many original antiques throughout the house, the retro arcade console in the game room, the turn table and albums in the living room, the dazzling art wall in the dinning room, and the feeling that you're home when you walk in the door.

What makes this property unique

Voted one of the top ten small towns in America, Ste. Genevieve, Missouri is the oldest European settlement west of the Mississippi and the country’s newest National Park. Even though there are fewer than 4,500 full-time residents, Ste. Gen offers something for everyone including world-class antiquing, wine tasting at some of Missouri’s finest vineyards, and visiting the iconic historical homes dating back to the mid-1700s.
