Our Family of 7 stayed here for Parents weekend at WCU. The house was very clean, decorated nicely with lots of room for everyone to spread out. The best VRBO's we've rented!
Thank you so much for sharing your home! The house was immaculately clean on arrival and is well-stocked with everything you could possibly need for a fabulous stay. The view from the porch is peaceful and the downstairs living area and skeeball machine were a particular plus with the teens.
We absolutely LOVED our stay! The house is beautiful! It was updated, clean, spacious, and full of conveniences that made our stay stress-free. The location is great - so close to lots of fun activities. We went whitewater rafting, hiking, and found lots of great dining in the area. The best part was sitting on the porch just enjoying the view and the cool mountain air. We can't wait to book this house again!
The cabin was very clean, modern and family friendly. Lots of hangout spots. The kitchen was well supplied (maybe needs a muffin tin) The fireplace and generous supply of warm blankets were a hit. As was the skeeball game. Our family really enjoyed our stay.
We were super happy with our stay here. The home is immaculate and super functional. Great size with beautiful surroundings. Nice quiet and safe area but so much to do nearby. We were there in the winter so we were able to hit up one of the local ski resorts. But the town and surrounding towns are all so quaint with plenty of local breweries and dining. Our hosts were lovely and super accommodating. Highly recommend! We will be going back.
I can't speak highly enough of this vacation oasis! The property was perfect for our family with high quality amenities that made us feel like we could live there for good! The location is beautiful and perfectly situated for so many outdoor and historic activities. It was very reasonably priced and probably the best value VRBO that I have stayed in. We look forward to booking this one again and hope to try it during other seasons of the year. Thanks for the great stay!!
We were incredibly happy with the property. Great communication from the owners who have anticipated all your needs. Excellent location. Perfect for a Mountain get away as well as trip to visit Western Carolina University, Sylvia and surrounding areas. Our plan is to return next year. Highly recommend!!
Spent just short of a week at this incredible cabin. Secuded on top of a quiet neighborhood, everything about the house was welcoming. From the front porch rockers to the skeeball game, we took advantage of all the place offered. Clean, fresh and cozy bedrooms were a hit for all of us staying there. Great kitchen and table to cook, comfortable couches for lounging and games in the basement for the kids and adults. We will keep this place on our list to return next time we are in Sylva.

We were happy to host you and your family and look forward to hosting you again! We're glad you had a great time! - Emily and Dave
We had a fantastic stay at this property! It’s only a few minutes from Western Carolina University, Sylva, and Dillsboro. Plenty of room for our family to spread out. If you need to work from home, the basement bedroom has a little desk.
The kitchen had every resource we needed when we decided to stay home and cook. Owners have lots of recommended sites and resources and we enjoy many of them!
Highly recommend Dillsboro River Company guided rafting tour only a few minutes from the house. This was our fourth rental in the Sylva area over the last year and our family unanimously agreed it was the best!
Balsam and Ivy was the perfect place for our families week long stay in the mountains! We loved the beautiful pastoral setting, driving to and from the house watching the bubbling rapids and fly fishermen in the Tuckeseegee River was beautiful! The house had everything we needed and we all really enjoyed the skeeball machine and board games! The EV charger was a wonderful perk allowing us to wake up charged and ready every day! The setting felt so remote at the end of road but the grocery store, restaurants, and Starbucks were all just minutes away! We had a wonderful week exploring the area from Highlands/Cashiers to Maggie Valley and Cherokee. The house was central and convenient to the whole region! We hiked several trails and saw several waterfalls but I think our favorite was the Alpaca farm tour! We can't wait to go back in the summer to do some rafting/tubing and explore even more!
The hosts Dave and Em were great with a helpful guide of recommendations and easy check in/check out processes! Five stars for sure!!
Balsam + Ivy was an INCREDIBLE place to stay. The location, size and fully stocked kitchen were impressive. The drive up to the house is beautiful, but once there, the accommodations do not disappoint. We only used two of the beds and pillows which were very comfortable. When you open the door, you are greeted by wood ceilings and glories and the Les there sofas saw so cozy bathe gas burning fireplace surely take the cozy cabin feel up a notch or two and the open floor plan really make the house feel spacious. We cooked breakfast every morning and had plenty of room to eat at the table. The kitchen has a really nice set of knives and plenty of kitchenware. No bathrooms are stocked with sun dried and thick plush towels. No doubt, the highlight for us was playing Skee Ball. What a way to bring a little competition into your vacation. The managers, Dave and Emily have a done a fantastic job summarizing local hikes and areas of interest that are listed in a book they have left for parusal. You cannot go wrong staying in this house. We are already planning our next trip in a few months.
Our family loves staying here! Great location between restaurants, and WCU. Nice layout with 3 bedrooms upstairs, and one downstairs. Nice to have 2 different entertainment spaces with a fireplace upstairs and skeeball downstairs. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a nice, clean house to get away for a weekend with your family.
Hi! We're Emily and Dave and our family of four fell in love with hiking and exploring in Western North Carolina years ago. After a lot of hunting we found our perfect getaway in the mountains that we're thrilled to share with other families!
Why they chose this property
We love the quiet spot our house occupies at the rear of the neighborhood, tucked in amongst the trees with a lovely view from the front porch.
