Wonderful stay. The hostess was very gracious and welcoming. The house is obviously one of the most unique properties out there, but, in addition, is very well maintained and surprisingly roomy. The property is gorgeous, and the hot tub was relaxing. Hope to come back again!
The "dome" was wonderful to stay in. It was clean and in a good location to lots of activities. Melody was a wonderful host and exceptional to work with. She went the extra mile.
The Dome on the Hill was absolute amazing. The home itself is stunning and the hostess is every vacationers dream come true. Such compassion for her guests to make you truly feel welcome. Loved every day of our stay! Highly recommended! Beautiful location and some of the most wonderful people you will ever meet!
Melody was very friendly and made sure we felt welcome and comfortable during our stay. The Dome is a very unique place to stay. The place is kept clean and stocked with many amenities. It sits up on a hill, secluded and surrounded by nature and makes for a great get away from the normal stresses of life.
Beyond words. This is an amazing home. We were looking to make memories on this trip and this home did that for us. Melody, the host, was so nice and made the best brownies. The home is stocked with everything you can imagine. Beautiful scenery, wildlife and relaxing environment.
From the moment we were contacted by the host Melody, all the way through out check-out it was flawless. The property was better than the images could do justice.
I stayed here because me and my family needed a place to grieve. My son was murdered a year ago and we were looking for a place to get together. It was so peaceful and relaxing.
We loved this very unique place. It was gorgeous and clean. We got to watch deer graze as we soaked in the hot tub at sunset. We also watched the clouds float over the moon behind the trees as we cuddled on the couch threw the triangle sky windows. The brownies that were left for us were amaxing while we enjoyed the many games that the house had to offer i cant wait to stay again. The host was so kind and very thoughtful.
The house was everything we hoped for and more! The house was furnished with everything we needed for our weekend stay and there was enough space to fit all eight of us comfortably. Melody was an amazing host who meet us at the property and gave my group a great tour of the house. She also kept good line of communication via text to make sure our stay was perfect. My only complaint is that we didn't book the house for an extra night! If you are looking to book a nice place with a beautiful property to get away with friends/family, than look no further than the Dome on the Hill!
I have stay at many places during our business/ women retreats.
The dome on the hill is definitely the most unique.
Our host Melody met us at the entrance which was hidden away. It felt like we were traveling to a secret gnome home with the open meadow and surrounding forest. The space of the doors and the dome itself was amazing. But the amazement did not stop there. Melody led us on a tour while telling us about the dome's history.
She is soo thoughtful. Her special touches really made us feel at home. She really is a one woman show. She gives tours, cleans and made yummy cookie brownies for us. We, The Salty Girls, loved our stay and plan to have our next business retreat here.
Only negative was we did not have enough time to work on improving our trade skills of massage, reflexology and holistic modalities. It inspired us to reach out to local vacation rentals around our area of Champaign County to offer our services. It really wound have been peaceful to do outside yoga with all the scenery and privacy. We could not even here cars from a nearby road, only the tree leaves swaying. On our last day, a rainstorm blew in and we were in awe as we watched the lighting. And still felt safe. Melody even reached out to check on us.
Melody is a great host. She met us when we arrived and gave a tour of the property. She even baked brownies for us! The house was spotless and the kitchen had lots of dishes, bowls, pots & pans. There were staples in the pantry! The kids enjoyed the fenced yard and the adults enjoyed the hot tub. Highly recommend The Dome.
The dome was a great retreat for a group of four to escape for a long weekend. The host is very welcoming and has thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. Would definitely stay again!
The Dome was so beatable and peaceful. It was perfect for family fun with the big air hockey table. Every inch of this place was cozy! Opened door to a nice treat and the owner was simply amazing. Will definitely stay again.
The host - Melody is delightful! A very personable host and very responsive to questions! The property is very well maintained! The house was super clean and had everything we could possibly need! What a gem! Everyone had their own space as well as space for all 7 of us to gather together. I hope to stay here in the future!
A Unique and Wonderful Family Getaway! Our family of six had such a memorable time at this one-of-a-kind dome house in Chillicothe! The property itself is beautiful and truly unique—it felt like a perfect blend of cozy and adventurous. We spent our time making s’mores, playing board games together, and enjoying the hot tub under the stars. Mornings were just as special with homemade pancakes before heading out to explore. We visited 50W Brewery, saw the outdoor drama Tecumseh!, and still had plenty of time to relax and enjoy the house. The owner was absolutely wonderful—she welcomed us with a delicious brookie, gave us a thoughtful tour of the property, checked in to make sure we were comfortable, and truly made us feel at home. It’s rare to find that level of hospitality, and it made our stay extra special. If you’re looking for a unique home base for both family fun and exploring the Chillicothe area, this dome house is the perfect spot. We left with full hearts and great memories—highly recommend!
Property was exactly as described. All amenities plus many more were available for our use and all were accessible. The owner thought of everything to make our stay pleasurable. Kitchen was equipped with everything necessary to cook meals and clean up. The bedrooms and bathrooms were stocked with linens, towels and everyday necessities. We could not have asked for more. All 6 guests staying rated this property experience a 10
Beautiful and peaceful. We wanted for nothing, she thought of everything. Brownies when we got there, brought us a watermelon a few days later. We would definitely rent this again. This is the only place, ( and we’ve stayed in several) that supplied us with so much and quality items at that. The only negatives were the pans and the noise in the house, you could here everything, everywhere inside the house and also talking on the deck.
Melody has outdone herself with the cleanliness and hospitality. We enjoyed the views, the peace and quiet there. This is a place we will go back in the future.
This is by far the coolest and most unique house I've ever stayed in. I really enjoyed learning about the history of the property and the area; it felt like I was staying in a private museum! The host also goes above and beyond to prepare the place. I would absolutely stay here again.
First Melody what a wonderful host. She showed kindness to my daughters and I .She gave us a beautiful tour and the back story of the Dome. This property quickly became our home.I will forever remember the memories of our home away from home.I will 100% be visiting again. And the cleanliness of the Dome was unbelievable. Everything was just right.I can go on and on about the Dome .The property is beautiful .Melody has everything you can think of and more .The beds were so comfortable.Melody is gracious. And the details show how she decorated her property with Love and for others to enjoy. We visited on june 5 to the 11th.And it hard to leave.I wish I can rate more then 5 stars.Beacuse I would give her a 100 stars if I could. And last but not least the Hot tub was wonderful .Thank you Melody for all you do.You are truly appreciated.
This place is great! Very clean, nice and neat. One of the cleanest places I've ever stayed. The history of the place is interesting. The hot tub is amazing. We'll definitely keep this on our list of places to stay when working in the area.
Melody was AMAZING! She met us at the bottom of the hill and followed her up to the house where she gave us the tour, history, fun stories and pointed out where everything was located. We have stayed at a good amount of rentals but this one truly had everything you could need and way more than most would expect. We loved that is had everything that we needed, plenty of room and amenities. This property is close to anything you need including grocery stores, gas stations, local attractions and downtown. We really enjoyed the relaxing ambiance and the privacy that the Dome provided. While it was close to town it was far enough away for a peaceful and relaxing get-a-way!The host really goes the extra mile with quality toilet paper, extra towels, kitchen supplies, coffee station perks, easy open hot tub, firewood, and even baked us some fresh brownies!! Just an above and beyond experience in an uniquely designed home with lovely scenery. We had a blast!
The property was unique which was the reason for selection. It was close enough to Chillicothe for food and entertainment. ( Definitely take the free trolley). Unfortunately it rained most of the weekend so we could only enjoy the outdoors for a couple of hours. The stairs are unique but if someone in your party has trouble with stairs, consider them for the main floor. Plenty of room for every one.

About the host
Hosted by Melody Knoles
My name is Melody, and the DOME on the Hill is a family-owned property that was recently completely renovated and opened as a rental vacation home. All our family are Chillicothe natives. As for me, -- your host, I love music, jigsaw puzzles, & consignment shopping. I am a "people person", so I love meeting our guests and making sure their stay is everything they need and expect in their home away from home.
Why they chose this property
Nestled on top of a hill surrounded by nothing but trees, your neighborhood consists of maybe a few birds and the deer that cross through the field in the morning. The large yard is enclosed with a wooden fence and has a variety of trees and perennials around the property. Amazingly, being so private, our home is minutes away from a major highway and town, hiking trails, restaurants, and entertainment. The best of both worlds!
What makes this property unique
There IS no place like ours... period. There may be other domes, but this one was designed and built by an amazing engineer husband/wife team. The blueprints hang framed in the lower level, and a photo book lays on the coffee table which shows each step of construction. The house looks small from the outside, yet it is incredibly spacious inside. The unique structure allows loads of individual living and closet space, and fun, "unconventional" angled windows and walls. It's decorated with a "homey" atmosphere, with lots of color and comfort, and is meant to be lived in.
