Tucked into the tall pines alongside the Holy Waters. The Castaway offers an amazing location for enjoying all the Au Sable has to offer. The setting couldn't be more perfect. Just outside the kitchen guests will enjoy an outdoor area with a firepit. The area is perfect for cooking over the open flame, relaxing with a good book, or snuggling up to watch the star-filled night sky. The deck around the front of the home has a grill and river front view. The cabin itself sits about 200 feet back from the river. Down near the river there is a grass clearing perfect for sitting in the Adirondacks while waiting for just the right moment to wet your line. Entry into the river off the property is ankle deep rocky bottom. This is a highly sought area for wading anglers. For those not familiar with the Grayling area, it offers more than the greatest fly fishing. The river attracts tubers, kayakers, and canoeing. Our cabin is situated between Burton's Landing and Keystone Landing. Grayling is also in the center of a region with the most incredible golf courses such as Forest Dunes, Treetops, and Boyne Mountain. Looking for a nearby beach? Kneff Lake is a small hidden local spot for kids to pay in the and water. Wellington Farms, a historic working farm, also makes a great visit for something out of the ordinary. The winter months attract many who love the outdoors. Whether you are into snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, sledding or downhill skiing, you will find a spot to keep you engaged. The cabin has a perfect sledding hill. Hanson Hills offers many trails for year-round adventures, including tubing and skiing. Treetops offers downhill skiing and tubing. We like to cater to family gatherings, anglers and couples. Out of respect to our neighborhood we do request that there aren't any large gatherings or late nights that would disrupt their quiet river setting.

My husband and I loved our weekend at this cabin on the river. It was very clean and cozy. The kitchen was super well stocked, which we really appreciated. The cottage is close enough to town (about a 10 minutes drive) if you need anything, but still very private. The riverfront is beautiful and peaceful. We loved our relaxing weekend here and would definitely stay again.
We had a wonderful stay at The Castaway Vacation Home. The property had everything we could have asked for. The kitchen and baths were well stocked and the home was very clean and comfortable. Jeanne was great to work with and quick to respond to any questions we asked. Would love to stay at the property in the future.
We had a fun time at The Castaway with our multi-generational family trip! The house was very clean, well taken care of and comfortable for everyone in our group. There was clearly attention to detail to make the house feel like a getaway. We used the deck, patio, grill, hot tub, dining room, and spent a lot of time on the Au Sable. The layout of the house made it feel like everyone in our 7 person + 2 dog group had space to be together but also have space to themselves. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking and had a large pantry that we used to store our groceries. The access to the river was beautiful and we went fly fishing, tubing and read in the Adirondack chairs by the water. As an added bonus we had fun feeding the goats next door! Thank you for sharing this special place with us to make memories together.
The place has been renovated with new flooring, bathrooms, and outside decking.
It was very clean and we had no issues that needed to be addressed by the owners. This has not been the case with other places that we've rented.
We would definitely stay here again.
We used this lovely property as a base of operation while we explored the Au Sable River. We were a group of 5 fishermen and the house allowed us the opportunity to spread out. The house provided all that we needed to make our stay comfortable. Be aware, the pictures make it seem like the house sits right on the river. This is now quite accurate. It sits on a little bluff above the river. There is a small trail to allow direct river access.
This property is wonderful! The home is beautiful, comfortable, and relaxing. Jeanne and Chad are the consummate hostess/host. They are warm and friendly as is this property. The kitchen and bathrooms are well stocked, outside amenities are outstanding.
The property along the AuSable is fabulous and lends itself well to being in the river, the Holy Waters, for fly fishing. Everyone enjoyed fishing and everyone caught a fish.
I’d highly recommend this property to anyone who wants to relax and enjoy what northern Michigan has to offer.
Very nice place to relax and unwind from work stress!
There is plenty of space available to relax and enjoy the quiet surroundings. Only were in for 2 nights so we didn't get a good opportunity to really take advantage of all the amenities... I will definitely be staying here again. Next time will be for a longer time...
The house was perfect! Well stocked. Well decorated. Comfy beds and beautiful location. We would definitely rent it again! Only 4 adults but the home is perfect for a family also! Enjoyed feeding the goats and chickens next door too!
Seven of us from a women’s only recreation group that I run stayed here for the weekend. It was perfect. Everything about it. It was the right size for us and had everything we needed. The host was welcoming and friendly. The hot tub was a bonus! The setting was gorgeous. We all agreed we’d love to stay again, especially in the warmer months so we could canoe or kayak on the river.
Everything was great! Very clean! Good directions! Very quiet and relaxing! Owners are on the property they are great people! Very helpful! I would stay again!
We were a group of 5 friends; we all had our own beds. Master bedroom has all you need with a river view. Clean everywhere. Hot tub was large and relaxing. Fun feeding the chickens and goat our leftovers. Host was helpful. Well supplied kitchen. Outside seating areas were comfortable. Will book again.
The hosts are great people, beautiful newly renovated home! The art work was done very well, interior decorations.
Loved all the space that it afforded our family.
Thanks!

Why they chose this property
Beautiful river view. Deer and turkey frequent the property. The home is five miles from town.
What makes this property unique
The home sits up. Take the gentle slope to the river to find easy in and out of the rocky bottom shallow river.
