It was a terrible experience and I will never book with VRBO ever again. The island is closed down, our flights were canceled and the management company lacked any understanding, keeping all our money including cleaning fees. Completely disappointed and will never use VRBO or Beach Kauai Vacation Rentals ever again.

FACT: 9 of our 10 rental guest parties managed to come and go safely from Kaua'i during the time this guest claims "Kaua'i was closed".
What a disappointing experience when a guest attempts to cancel with three different reasons over the course of the week prior to the reservation-- All of the reasons covered in the Rental Agreement, signed with all three reasons detailed & initialed specifically. This is exactly why Rental Agreements are unfortunately necessary.
Twice the guest solicited the stellar VRBO customer service team to pressure us into abandoning the rules that make it possible for us continue renting our affordable family homes for generations.
TRAVEL INSURANCE: When attempting to book a reservation on one of the wettest places on earth during the rainy season- especially if you want or need flexibility around kids preferences and school schedules - we truly wish the guest would have considered the Travel Insurance offered three times during their booking process. It would have covered her completely without our owner having to lose the rental income that did not rebook on such short cancelation notice.
Also, the guest's choice to change their mind last minute did not negate the cleaning required for the next guest, after a home on a rainy tropical island sat empty for nearly 6 days.
Lastly, we could ask VRBO to remove this (our first 1*) review potentially, as reviews are typically for guests who actually show up, yet transparency is most valued by us
Property is perfectly situated for walks to the beach or into downtown Princeville. The place was clean and well equiped.

A spacious, comfortable home close to the beach and town. I loved the outdoor shower, and spacious kitchen. Well written instructions, everything as described. The only downside was how hot the main room was, better with many fans.

Perfect spot for grandparents to teenagers.
We were 6 adults, and the bedroom/bathroom set up was great. We also enjoyed the open floor plan and well stocked kitchen and BBQ.
We made so many memories!
Thank you.
The Hanalei is a great place for a family to stay in Hanalei town. The home is large and well equipped with everything you will need. Only a two block walk to the beach, and about a ten minute walk to restaurants.
Great play to relax and easy walk to restaurants and stores

This may have been one of the cleanest most organized houses we have stayed in! Everything we needed for a great stay in Hanalei. Short walk to the beach and grocery store. Excellent communication with the host on all levels. We will be staying here again!

Excellent communication. Lots of great details and instructions prior to arrival and also on arrival (at the house). Very well equipped house, exactly as described. Thanks so much.
We had a fantastic 2 week stay at The Hanalei. Perfect walkimg distance to the beach. 15 minute walk to downtown Hanalei which is nice, because you are away from the downtown crowd and noise. Great amenities. Beach chairs and beach towels could use an upgrade. It is dark inside and very hot so the fans were used. But, overall, we had an awesome stay.
This rental was a great base for all of our north shore adventures. Pros:- Great location - walkable to the beach and everything in Hanalei- Very comfortable beds- Spacious- Large and well-outfitted kitchen- Washer/dryer in-unit- Outdoor shower, beach chairs, etc Cons:- Pretty dark inside, there are no central overhead lights in the main space- AC is only in bedrooms so warm/humid in the living room and kitchen- Not supposed to charge phones in bedrooms (we couldn't comply with this, one of us has a medical condition and needs a phone nearby as a monitor; we've never seen this request at a rental before)Overall, this was a great spot, good value, and comfortable. Would definitely stay here again on a future trip!
Amazing house in Hanalei - 5 min walk to the beach
The house was perfectly sized for my wife, her friend, and my grandpa. Suzanne is the perfect hostess. Check in was a breeze. House instructions and more in a binder in the kitchen. Common areas are huge. Loved the walkin shower in the master bath! Everything was very clean. And it a few mins drive into Hanalei which is the perfect little beach town!
2 blocks from gorgeous beach, walkable to town and good eats and Market. The six adults in our family never felt crowded as each couple had their own bathroom. Open concept living dining area for family time. Friendly House cat ( outside) keep us smiling. Kitchen well stocked if you felt like cooking. Outdoor shower was a big hit! We loved this home.
I came with my husband, parents, and three kids (ages 2-9). There was plenty of room for the seven of us, and we were delighted with the proximity of the house to the beach. The outdoor shower and washer/dryer at the house made it easy to keep ourselves and our clothes and towels clean. The kitchen was easy to prepare meals in. It wasn’t prefect, but our complaints were so minor compared to the benefits of staying at this house. Overall, we were very happy with the space.
This place is perfectly located. It's 1 block away from the west side of Hanalei Bay and an easy walking distance to all the shops in Hanalei. The view from the kitchen was breathtaking. The place was stocked with soap for toiletries. There was a bit of sand toys and pool noodles. We didn't see any boogie boards although I think other reviews mention them. Of note, air conditioning is only in the bedrooms but we were okay with opening the windows and using the available fans. We also loved all the spices and condiments available in the kitchen. It was a great base to all of our north shore adventures.
Everything was great--plenty of beach things in the outdoor closet, and the beach was close, as was the town. We onlu disappointment was that a freezer had leaked water over the kitchen floor when we arrived. There was a sign on the freezer saying not to use it. We put towels on the floor and mopped up the mess, and it didn't reoccur. Would definitely rent this house again!
Their cat bit my five year old. We didn’t have check in information when we needed it. Communication was conflicting and slow. House was messy. Dogs next doors constantly howling and barking. Cats kept coming in the house.

These folks had a very hard time accessing their information though we connected with them in multiple methods including email, phone, text, and the VRBO app. They booked at the very last minute, which we do not usually see here in Hawaii. When they first arrived, they were bummed with a neighborhood cat and the dogs barking. We were informed that the husband was epi-pen allergic to cats. We told them they could leave, which they then declined.
We have had the same housekeeper for many years and have received so lovely comments about the cleanliness of the homes she cares for.
This is a neighborhood and there are animals. We have a "no animal in the house" policy. We have added to our guest instructions that in addition to not feeding the wild chickens, not to feed cats either.
We are sad. This is our first and only 1 star review. We wish these folks could have been happy. We have not had this type of interaction with a guest before. We wish them happy travels in the future.
