Post-Christmas Getaway
Had a lovely stay here with the entire family after Christmas. An amazing property with ample space for both kids and adults to relax. Lovely addition of a swing set and slide on the grounds for the little ones to enjoy and stunning views of the rollling countryside. The only thing that would have made the trip better is an earlier check in time. I personally find 4pm a little late, particularly in winter as it was pitch black by the time we arrived. Once you unpack the car and put your shopping away you’ve lost most of your first day. Even just an hour earlier would make a huge difference imo. But a lovely stay nonetheless.

Originally from the UK, Matt has been a wanderer with a love for travel and encountering new cultures from a young age. Having lived in China, India, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, Matt has never forgotten the beauty of a childhood spent in the Lake District, and is delighted to now be able to host visitors to this incredible region.

As a father of 3 young kids, Matt also understands the ins and outs of family travel, and has tried to make his properties as family friendly as possible.

Why they chose this property

Church House stands alone and proud on the southern edge of the village of Skelton, flanked on one side by the castle-like, 700-years-old bell tower of St Michael's Church, and on the other by a dairy farm. As soon as we saw it my wife and I fell in love with it, not least for the incredible views over the Eden Valley from the back garden, and the general sense of peace and quiet.

At various times in its history Church House has been a working farmhouse, a post office, and a family home, and it has adapted with a considerable amount of grace and elegance. Most recently, the House was extended with a new sky-lit dining room and entrance hallway adding a modern touch to its Georgian heritage. We're delighted that our guests now get to sample this wonderful place and make happy memories here with their friends and family.

What makes this property unique

Church House has oodles of space, whether it's the large dining room, spacious kitchen, or the large bedrooms and entrance halls. That makes it great for larger groups and families. Then there's the outside: a large garden and huge driveway set against the backdrop of sprawling countryside give a sense of space that's impossible to find in a city. On a clear night, when sat around the firepit, this feeling is only made more apparent by the incredible starry sky.

Church House is located close enough to the market town of Penrith to make its conveniences very accessible, while also being on the doorstep of Lakeland and the wondrous, dramatic fells and valleys it contains. It really is a magical place.
