About this property

Garden Suite

Settle into a quieter side of the Yukon, just 25 minutes from Whitehorse. Guests often comment on how peaceful it feels here, with open skies, fresh air, and a slower pace that’s hard to find closer to town.

In the fall and winter months, this is a great location for Northern Lights viewing when conditions line up. In summer, the long daylight hours bring bright evenings and a completely different rhythm to the days.

The garden suite is cozy and comfortable, with its own private entrance and patio space, set within a red barn on a working farm property. It’s an easy place to relax, step outside for some fresh air, and enjoy a quieter stay while still being close to town.

What a great property!

This lovely place is located on a quiet horse property out of town. The place was inviting and Krystal was a great host, showing us around and being most welcoming. I would love to be able to stay for several days and just relax. The place is perfect for those heading through town or those wanting to kick back a bit.

Great Stay With Dogs

This property was clean, comfortable, and well stocked. The owner was super helpful and accomadating. It was nice that we were able to take our dogs, and it was so much easier than staying with them in a hotel. Walking out the door into the woods for a walk was so nice! We arrived too late to visit the hot springs, but I wish we could have, it's a short distance away.

We loved staying at the Red Barn and our host was very communicative about the place. She invited us to explore the property and visit the animals which was perfect for our granddaughter! When we asked about using a cooler for daytime explorations she brought one over for us to use and was very amenable to anything else we might require. We loved the decor and the coffee machine in particular was right up our alley!

Quiet and cozy

Great little spot off the beaten trail but close enough to get anywhere you may want to go. Very spacious and well laid out, with nice outdoor space should you choose to use it. Krystal was a pleasure to deal with and very accommodating of any needs that came up. Would definitely stay again if ever back in the area.

Everything about the property and amenities was perfect. But what truly made this my best sort term rental experience was the amazing hosts. They are the type of family that gives you hope for the future of humanity. I rolled into their property with the last bit of oil remaining in my engine leaking out. They allowed me to park my car in their garage and use their tools to get my car back on the road. Including driving me into town to procure replacement parts, all with smiling faces and never made me feel like a burden. The host’s hospitality was far beyond anything I would have ever imagined and will definitely stay with them for all future Whitehorse visits. Finally, the property have beautiful horses, what is not to love.

About the host

Hosted by The Big Red Barn

Host profile image
We’re a small family hobby farm based just outside of Whitehorse, and this barn is at the centre of our day-to-day life. It’s home to our horses and donkey, and over time it’s become a space we enjoy sharing with guests as well.

Our days are a mix of regular life and time outside, with animals in the background, projects always on the go, and a steady appreciation for the quiet that comes with being just outside of town. It’s a setting that feels a bit removed without being remote, which is something our guests often notice right away.

We’ve been hosting for many years, and creating spaces that feel comfortable and easy to settle into has always been important to us. Both the loft and the suite are set up to be practical, clean, and welcoming for a range of stays.

We keep things straightforward. We’re nearby if you need anything, but otherwise we aim to give guests space to enjoy their time here. Whether you’re visiting for the Northern Lights, the long summer days, or simply a quieter place to land, we’re glad to have you.

Why they chose this property

This side of Whitehorse is a bit more rural, with a mix of large farms and small acreages, open space, and a strong horse community. The property itself was once a working horse ranch, and that history still shapes the feel of it today.

Living here with horses is a big part of why we chose this location. There are trails and quiet country roads just beyond the property that you can follow for hours, whether for a walk, a bike ride, or simply exploring the area. It’s possible to loop out toward the Yukon River and back without retracing your steps, which is something we’ve always appreciated.

Being on the north side of Whitehorse also has its advantages in the winter months. With the city lights behind you, the northern skies are darker and less affected by light pollution, which can make for better Northern Lights viewing when conditions are right.

Nearby, you’ll find a few well-known local spots including Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs, the Yukon Wildlife Preserve, and Bean North Café, all just a short drive away.

It’s a peaceful setting with room to breathe, while still being an easy drive into Whitehorse when you need it.

What makes this property unique

This is a quieter, more rural stay just outside of Whitehorse, set within a red barn on a small horse property. It offers a different feel than staying in town, with more space, less noise, and a setting that feels a bit removed without being remote.

Guests often mention how peaceful it is here. You have room to settle in, step outside, and enjoy the surroundings without the usual distractions. In the winter months, being on the north side of Whitehorse also means darker skies to the north, which can make for better Northern Lights viewing when conditions line up.

At the same time, it’s still an easy drive into Whitehorse, and close to places like Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs, the Yukon Wildlife Preserve, and Bean North Café.

It’s not a resort or a busy property. It’s simply a well-kept, comfortable space in a setting that lets you slow down a bit and experience a different side of the Yukon.
