We really enjoyed our stay at the Stone House! Equipped with everything we needed, great location, and the best part was the views all around!! There are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the views from both the inside and the outside of the house. We would definitely recommend this house to others!

Convenient to GNP and is home away from home!

This house was perfect! We loved it! The views from the kitchen table will wake you up early and make it hard to go to bed! Overall such a nice place! We can’t say enough good things! The owners were easy to work with and made everything easy! We would stay again for sure!

What a great property with a gorgeous view!

The Stonehouse is a really special place. The location was lovely; just close enough to easily get to the best hiking in Glacier National Park, or for a side-trip to Waterton - but also remote enough to be truly quiet and peaceful. The house is well-equipped and comfortable, the beds are cosy, and the view of the GNP mountains is spectacular. We enjoyed a special family dinner in the front yard, and our own July 4th fireworks over the lake. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thanks to David for such a great place to land when staying on the East side of the park.

An ideal spot for a Glacier National Park vacation!

This property was cozy sand beautiful. The views were spectacular and it was just the right amount of seclusion from the busy world for our family of five. We were able to fully relax and be in “vacation mode” upon entering this great spot. Really-just stop reading other reviews and snag your dates here! We stopped at both the IGA and Family Foods in Browning for groceries-trust me and skip the IGA, Family Foods is where it’s at. We also had the pleasure of dining at Rising Sun Pizza in St. Mary’s-that place is delicious. Just come here, trust us.

Perfect place to explore the east side of Glacier National Park

I was a little bit nervous when I booked the Stonehouse because of how remote it seemed. We actually found its location to be perfect. We were 10 min from the Many Glacier entrance, 20 min from Going to the Sun road in St Mary's, 50 min from Two Medicine entrance, and 1 hr from Waterton- Glacier. We stayed 4 days and that wasn't enough. Wish we stayed the full week. The house itself is very nice and has the most beautiful view I've ever seen. David was wonderful to work with. We will definitely be back.

Great location for day hiking in GNP

We really enjoyed our stay at the StoneHouse. The house is solidly constructed, very comfortable, and the decor was authentically Montana (not that I am any expert being a New Englander). I have traveled a lot for work and pleasure, but I don't think I have slept in a more comfortable bed away from home. The kitchen had everything we needed, and the rest of the house was well-stock with necessary supplies. The location is very quiet, which allows for a very restful sleep, especially after a long day hiking in the park. WE LOVED THE STONEHOUSE. This is a beautiful house in a gorgeous part of the country. We hope to return in the future when we can spend more than a week.

Another great stay at the StoneHouse

I believe this is our 5th or 6th stay here, we've kind of lost track. We enjoy the peace and quiet of the Stonehouse versus the chaos and poor restaurant options in the park, but with relatively quick access to St. Mary's, Many Glacier and some of the best hiking and wildlife opportunities that Glacier Park has to offer. Once again, we saw a mother Black Bear and her two cubs out the dining room picture window just across the road in the meadow. I'm guessing it might be the same mom we've seen in previous years. Thanks again David and family for sharing your home with us. We hope to be back in 2026.

An amazing retreat!

We loved our ten day stay at this amazing house in early July. Despite what earlier reviews said, we found there to be no issues whatsoever with this awesome home. It was very clean, well equipped, and the owners were incredibly responsive. The basement level was also very clean and comfortable, on equal par with the rest of the house. The water tasted just fine on its own, and the owners provided a water filter that we didn't feel the need to use. The location was exactly what we were hoping for- super easy access to Many Glacier and St. Marys area, and it was so refreshing to be unplugged for ten days. We hope to stay at this house again!

We had a fantastic time at the Stone House. Listing description was acurate regarding the location. Photo's were also accurate. Views are incredible. Property was clean and well maintained. Owner was extremenly helpful with questions and very easy to reach. I would highly recommend this property to a friend or relative. While we were there, we ice fished Duck Lake and had excellent success on rainbows from 12" to 20". I would recommend cooking your own fresh catch or a steak over charcoal at the house.

Nothing Lacking

Six adults and two young children plus an infant - we were very comfortable in the upstairs space. We would have rented the full house for several days but one night was all that was available. We will try to schedule this house again in the future. Everything we needed was on site and Two Sisters of Babb is nearby for the perfect dinner and pie! One motivated member of our group biked from the Stone House to Many Glacier and back - the rest of us were more than content to drive. Dave is a delightful host and we were made to feel very welcome.

Unique and stunning location on the "quiet side" of GNP

Great location for easy access to Many Glacier and St. Mary's entrances to GNP. Clean, comfortable, well stocked. Enjoy a most stunning view of the mountains of Glacier from the dining room table all day, every day. Loved the quiet, unplugged, remoteness of this location. No wifi. Verizon service worked best. Great communication from host at all times before, during and after the visit. Shop before you arrive as grocery stores nearby are limited (host told us that ahead of time as well) Saw moose, deer and cows on the land behind the house. Would stay there again and will recommend to friends. Perfect for those who want a quieter, Glacier National Park experience.

Awesome View, Lovely and Comfortable Home

The Stone House was our home base while exploring Glacier National Park (GNP). The Stone House has an astounding mountain view and is a very clean and comfortable home. It is quiet and very private. Upon arrival, the house was in perfect order for us and was a wonderful place to relax and unwind. The owner lives downstairs and was very helpful and knowledgeable. We appreciate how easy he made everything for us. We also enjoyed his show at the Many Glacier hotel. It should not be missed. We loved this house and still miss the beautiful view (which we can't adequately describe.) This was our first time using a vacation rental and it was an excellent experience. We would recommend this home to others and hope to get back in the future.

We loved our stay - the rustic charm, open living spaces, and incredible mountain views were unforgettable. The location was perfect. Just a note that the lake access pictured is currently dried up due to drought, but it didn’t take away from our experience. We’d happily recommend this house to others!

Great place! This cabin was perfect. It was close to the St. Mary's and Many Glacier entrances to GNP. The house had plenty of space for our group of 6 and we all had comfy beds. The kitchen was nice to have so we could make our own coffee, cook and prepare our lunches for our hikes! David is friendly and so helpful! If this is available for your dates, book it now! I really have nothing but great things to say about Dave and JJ’s place. You can really feel the love in the home! The porch on the back is wonderful for sunrises and the seats in the front give you a view that you can only get in Montana…..the mountains are impressive. I can say enough about how comfortable the bed was I slept like a baby every night. The horses that free ranged just really added to the ambiance of the place. Highly recommend!!!

About the host

Hosted by David and JJ Walburn

Host profile image
David Walburn - Montana Singer•Songwriter, avid outdoor enthusiast, fly fisherman, hunter, hiker, skier, and homesteader. From 1999 to 2014, I worked at the historic Many Glacier Hotel as a resident musician, performing acoustic concerts for Glacier Park guests. I have lived in Montana for over 30 years and it's here that I feel most at home. Four of those summers were spent working nights performing and the days building the StoneHouse. It has been my mission to build something unique that people will enjoy, appreciate, and, hopefully, wholly experience this amazing landscape with its vast and beautiful wilderness. This is not your cookie-cutter vacation rental. It is meant for those who have an adventurous spirit and a love of the American West, especially Montana!

Why they chose this property

My wife and I have been summer campers on Montana's east side for over 20 years and have fallen in love with its rugged beauty and wild landscape. We created a space - a traveler's rest - that blends with this landscape. My wife and I realized that this space should be shared by those adventure travelers who want a different lodging experience other than the usual motel/hotel. It is meant for those who want to explore off the main highway, unplug from modern life for a while, and appreciate the native country and culture of Montana.

What makes this property unique

Our family enjoys waking up at The StoneHouse wondering what the day's adventure will bring. We have caught mammoth rainbows on a fly rod, rode the float tube on endless quests searching for the perfect swimming hole, took the spotting scope for bird watching, bear spotting, and star gazing. We have gone on endless hikes into Glacier, had some banner kite flying days. In the winter we have trekked in snow shoes, sledded across the Duck's Head, skijored, ice fished, wrote kids songs, talked with owls and star gazed for hours, even experiencing the Northern Lights on occasion. What will your adventure be?
