We rented this Beaverdale home for a month and specifically chose an older home because we love the character of the neighborhood. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the cleanliness and condition of the property.Upon arrival, we found a heavily soiled dining room rug, hair and debris on the upholstered furniture, worn and stained towels, animal feces on the front steps, a slow kitchen drain, a loose faucet, and other areas needing cleaning and maintenance. The home also smelled of smoke. When we returned home and opened our luggage, the smoke odor absorbed by our belongings was surprisingly strong.Plumbing was an ongoing problem. During heavy rain, the kitchen sink gurgled and produced an extremely unpleasant odor resembling sewer gas. We also experienced water in the basement/garage area. Later, we lost hot water and required another service visit. To be fair, the host was responsive and sent a cleaner, handyman and plumber, and additional towels were provided. We appreciated those efforts. However, repeated cleaning, plumbing and maintenance issues significantly affected a month-long stay. Our concerns were not about the home being 100 years old. We knowingly chose an older home. They were about cleanliness, odors, plumbing and maintenance. Check-in was easy and the Beaverdale location was convenient, but overall the property did not meet our expectations for the listing or price paid, and we would not stay here again.
