Mammoth Canyon Lodge

Great location and spacious condo for a family of 4. Check in was a problem because owners did not send door combo until after check-in. Coffee maker was also broken and flooring needs to be replaced especially in the guest bathroom (unsafe). Outside of these flaws, we had a wonderful visit!

Owner refused to refund us after fire evacuation

I’m only giving 1 star because the owner would not issue us a refund for the 3rd night when we had to evacuate because of fires. We were supposed to stay from Friday to Monday, but we left by 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. We called VRBO, who unformed us that we had to deal directly with the owner to get our refund. Both, my wife and myself, separately wrote emails to the owner, and left voice mails on his phone asking for the refund for the 3rd night which we were forced to leave. He would not issue a refund. So sad to know there are people looking to take advantage of another’s misfortune. It was the first vacation we had booked with our children since the Covid quarantines had first happened. So not only were we so sad to leave mammoth due to unexpected fires, but we did not receive a refund as well. Interesting that VRBO doesn’t safeguard its customers against natural disasters. Very disappointing experience.

Lovely setting

Large, cozy condo right next to the mountains. Only issues were: had difficulty getting the lockbox open to get the keys, the shower in the spare bathroom did not work, and one of the sinks in the master bath was very slow to drain. Otherwise, the kitchen was well stocked, so pleased to find spices, coffee and sugar in the cupboard, beds and furniture were comfy. Very quiet and restful. Would stay again!

Cozy and Convenient!

Nice spot, ideal for ski-in, ski-out from Canyon Lodge. Enjoyed staying with our family group of 10 people. Cozy, but adequate. Never did get August Lock functioning, but traditional Keys worked just fine.

WONDERFUL ski in and ski out condo at Canyon Lodge

This condo is gorgeous. The living area windows all view the mountain at Canyon Lodge. There is no closer condo and no condo with a better view of the mountain. The owner Matt, what a wonderful gentleman to work with. He truly cares that his Guests have a great time. I WILL be back!

Fantastic! Location Location Location!!!

The apartment was just as shown in the photos. We arrived late at night but the access was easy as Matthew sent great instructions. I must admit though I’m never going to be a safe cracker!!!... :) The ‘August Access’ to the apartment was a bit unreliable as the batteries were flat so a good old key did the trick but Matthew came and fixed that over the weekend. Also the wifi didn’t work as someone had unplugged and moved the modem but that was corrected too and all was good again. Apart from those little hiccups (which really weren’t that big a deal) the place was perfect for a great weekend of skiing. We usually stay near Eagle lodge but decided to try something different and i think this will be our new go to. Beds were very comfortable, water was hot, apartment very warm and cozy and plenty of room to relax. The kitchen was well stocked and we cooked a couple of times. Matthew also gave a good recommendation for dinner which we accepted and was excellent (Nevados Restaurant). We also came home each day for lunch which was SO convenient and easy. There was plenty of firewood supplied for the wood heater. However no fire starters, newspapers or kindling was supplied, and this may or may not be the owners responsibility, but it would have been convenient for us “city folk” to get the fire started, at least for the first night. Overall, I would DEFINITELY stay at this apartment again and give it a five star rating. And I’m pretty hard to please!!!

Perfect location for winter but rock hard beds.

Pros: - The location was perfect if you're looking for a place you can walk to the slopes. - It is nicely remodeled. - Had nice furnishings. - Was mostly very clean. - Wasn't overly cluttered with decorations which made it easy to move fragile ones to keep them and our toddler safe. - Kitchen was well stocked with spices. Cons: - Rock hard beds (I had to sleep on the couch a few nights and my husband had to lay the throw pillows down on the bed to sleep on top of those. - Some things not toddler friendly, big furniture not secured to the walls, garbage disposal switch location and no 2nd front door lock. - Keyless entry wasn't working which really wasn't a big deal for us because we were always together so we just kept the key and didn't bother trying to figure out the keyless system. But there wasn't any other lock on the door so our toddler could easily turn the knob and open the door and the cleaning crew was able to just walk into the condo on us. - We stayed for a week and felt like there weren't enough supplies for that long of a stay, like trash bags, Kleenex boxes, dishwasher soap, etc. - Not enough seating in the living room.

Beauty and convenience at Mammoth

We spent a fantastic three days with our son's family - our two grandsons. The trip was great since the snow stopped as we arrived which gave us three great days of skiing/boarding. However, the condo was truly the center of all our activities and could not have been better. OK, so its just across the street from Canyon Lodge with a great view of Chair 22 - if you can see over the snow which is half way up the windows - but it is the little things the owners have done that made our stay enjoyable - great books in the nightstand drawers, board games for all ages - who ever knew how to identify the bite of a brown recluse spider?? - , boxes of tissue placed strategically throughout, and a comfortable throw blanket for snuggling on the sofa with grandchildren!! The kitchen is well stocked with every pot, pan, utensil you may ever need to prepare your meals. And lest I forget - Covered parking with direct indoor access to your unit.

Spacious 2 bedroom, great location, even in summer

Had a great time at this property. Location is stellar, even in summer. Winter it doesn't get any closer to the lifts. Condo makes the most of the space available without overloading. Owner was extremely helpful and accommodating. Hope to come back again, next time during ski season.

Spectacular Condo, best location on the mountain

An absolutely ideal location for a ski vacation - right across the street from the lodge, and easy access to the gondola (to go down to village). Fantastic kitchen (with everything you need). Easy parking. Ski locker. The condo feels like a mini-resort. We even hosted a dinner party. Great for families, or even two small families. We had the grandparents with us - they loved it.

Extra comfort in an Extraordinary location.

This condo in the Canyon Lodge Resort are of Mammoth Mountain cannot be placed closer to the ski action. I counted having to climb 12 stair steps from taking my skis off until I was sitting comfortably by our fire! I forget to say that the distance from skis to fireplace was just 12 steps plus crossing the street. It really is that close. The condo as been beautifully and thoughtfully decorated. The bedrooms and bathrooms (one with jet- tub and one with a great shower) and well appointed and warm. There is a HUGE tv with a million channels, the kitchen is big and easy to cook in. The outdoor Jacuzzi is moments away and very nice. Drawbacks? The gondola ride down to the village closes at 4.15. You have to take a bus back. But to tell you the truth, you wont want to leave the condo.

A Great Cozy Condo

Excellent location. It's literally steps away from the Canyon Lodge ski lift. It was nice not having to drive anywhere after a long day of snowboarding. I would definitely rent this property again! Pros: Clean, great amenities, cozy Cons: Hot water will run out in the showers.

Great Mountian Retreat

This condo is very comfortable and wonderfully located. It's ski-in ski-out feature is awesome although we couldn't use it because Canyon lift wasn't open due to lack of snow. We did rebook for later in the year so that should tell you something. The owners are great and were very helpful.

Host profile image
My wife and I began coming to Mammoth in 2006, when our first daughter was 1. As our family has grown, so has our love of Mammoth and the amount of time we come up here.

Why they chose this property

The location is one of a kind, and the condo is filled with a lot of love and memories. Sadly, my wife and were only able to purchase this unit due to the untimely passing of another young man who also loved Mammoth, Shaun Sklar. We gratefully share this unit with you, our guests, guests who have stayed with Pam & Phil in the past, and the Sklar family themselves--as a gift from Shaun. All that we ask is that you enjoy each moment in Mammoth Lakes as much as he did.

What makes this property unique

Everyone advertises 'ski in, ski out' but it's usually a stretch, at best. Seirra Megeve #2 is THE closest unit to Canyon Lodge, in THE closest complex to Canyon Lodge. You take 15 steps out your door, and you're on the snow, clipping in and skiing down (not skating up) to the lifts. And with 7 beds you can really be comfortable, all without invading the common area/living room.
