Super Private...Amazing Lake Views...Log Cabin Solitude!!
Classic Northwoods Log Cabin....read the reviews...they tell the whole story. I built this cabin myself 31 years ago. We live in Hayward and this cabin was built as a family retreat...a quick quiet and close getaway.
We have been hosts on VRBO since 2004...we were the 5th home in Hayward to sign up. We have had great guests...it has been nice to share our special place.
The Cabin site is extremely private in a very wild and scenic setting on the famous Chippewa Flowage...only 18 miles from Hayward. The 'Flowage is a 17,000 acre lake with hundreds of islands and 200 miles of 95% undeveloped lakeshore. It is one of the more famous wilderness lakes in Northern Wisconsin and the Hayward Lakes Region. The home makes a wonderful four season retreat...very private...with spectacular and private water views!!
The Adirondack style log cottage sits on a large 60 acre parcel with an abundance of lake frontage in a very private wooded setting. The views from the home are 100% natural...nothing but trees and undeveloped shoreline!!! The large screen porch has great views to the lake making evening dinners seem in the outdoors... the lake side fire pit and chairs create a great place for reflection or marsh mallow roasts...the 3/4 mile private wooded trail is lined with huge pines and is perfect for quiet walks... the kitchen-great room is decorated in a classic northwoods decor with many handmade rustic furniture pieces. (The cabin and much of the rustic furniture was built by the owner.) The second floor loft-bedroom has three beds...two doubles and a queen... it is very spacious and is lined with windows creating beautiful views to the lake. Wood floors, rustic furniture and an abundance of windows add to the Northwoods feel of this unique property. Please note (the walking trail is not open 9-1 to 12-1).
The home is located on the North East corner of the very famous and wild Chippewa Flowage. Paddling or boating adventures up the river are close and easy and a kayak around the bay is even easier. This section of the lake is truely a wilderness area...make a left off the dock and it is miles to the next home. All 17,000 acres of the Chippewa Flowage can be your boating playground!!
With the famous resort town of Hayward just 18 miles away you can choose from a variety of world class attractions, restaurants and shops. If you are looking to relax in private with your loved ones this is a place that exudes family time. Whether it is canoeing up the nearby river, boating out the lake to the ice cream shop, a boat ride to one of 10 lake resorts for a cheese burger, catching some fresh fish for dinner, walking on the private woods trail, biking on the forest roads or reading on the screen porch, you will be able to relax undisturbed in this unique northwoods retreat.
Winter is a very special time here...a true winter wonderland. The snow is a pristine white...the solitude at a level that forces you to unwind. Whether it is a snow shoe down the shore of the lake to the river...a slow cross country tour down the private woods trail or a candle lit dinner in front of the fire...winter is a great get away time. Try the winter...you will be glad you did!!!
We do allow 1 dog 60 lbs or less. We sometimes allow 2 small dogs. No Saint Bernards or Great Danes or like large species. Large dogs or 2 dogs must be approved in writing prior to booking the cabin. 2 dogs will require 2 pet fees. Pet fees are $60 per dog for up to 4 days and $15 per day after the four days.

If you are looking for that truely quintessential cabin experience...a private setting and amazing log cabin please consider a booking. The cabin is rustic but properly appointed with good cook ware and all you need for a great guest experience. And for serious coffee drinkers we have a French Press, Bean Grinder, Air Press, Italian Stove Top Espresso maker and of course a Mister Coffee. Proper Coffee on the screen porch or in front of the fire is something we take seriously.
Cheers........Fred and Sue

Book with confidence! The cabin is just as beautiful, peaceful and secluded as advertised. Rustic and cozy with all the essentials provided (including wifi) for a pleasant stay. The hosts Fred and Sue were super easy to work with and accommodating -- thanks so much!
We enjoyed our long Labor Day retreat at Fred & Sue's cabin. The north woods cabin is beautiful and reflects that it was built with love and skill by the owners. It's a true get away!
Fred was a wonderful host. Nothing but good things about this cabin off the beaten path. View was great, thanks for sharing your awesome place!

Nice place
The winter-to-spring transition was happening. Exceptional sunlight across river ice and that bracing smell of melting snow. River otters were playing. And eagles were prospecting nest sites. Didn't see another person while we were there.

I always appreciate Guests who enjoy the special quiet-nature-solitude that our cabin get away offers. Smelling spring arrive is something only a lover of the outdoors would comment on....but yet it evokes a strong image for those of us anticipating the arrival of spring. Glad you enjoyed your visit!
Great little Cabin in the middle of the Woods. If you are looking for some peace and relaxation, this is the place. We loved the screened porch because the Mosquitoes were really bad when we got there !!! Our 2 dogs were in heaven, seeing & barking at all the different Wildlife.
Fred is a great and generous Host, who will help you with all of your needs & questions.
We really enjoyed our stay.
Thank you for sharing your great cabin.

Cabin was exactly what we were looking for. Great solitude and a breathtaking view from the cabin & dock. Our only regret was not asking the owners for some fishing spots because we didn't catch much. Our fault! Thanks Fred & Sue. Tried to leave the cabin as clean as we found it, hope we didn't let you down! We will be back but next time with a fishing guide.

You took great care of the cabin…..thank you! And on the fishing…..a guide for a day or two is good to learn the ropes! Cheers!
We have had the pleasure to experience this beautiful home multiple times! I can’t explain enough how amazing it is. We drive specifically from the burbs of Chicago to come here. There are so many attributes- the stunning cabin, the amazing lawn & yard (It is fun chopping wood!!!), kayaking, making s’mores on the pit, fishing at the break of dawn, reading on deck, the sunset, the quiet. ;)
Fred has been the best each and every time! And We Thank you Dearly!!!

Wonderful cabin
What a great experience! The cabin was rustic but immaculate...simple but with everything needed. We had a great time as a family disconnecting and spending time together. What a treasure! Lastly, I found the photos be a highly accurate representation of what to expect. Note the other structure in the photos is a small storage building. I wondered if it was the owners residence when I first saw it, but it was not. Tons of privacy.

Thank you for your kind note! We also love the cabin...I built it myself 25 years ago as a quiet retreat for my then young family. The cabin is still an important place in our lives but one we now can share with others. The simple rustic nature of the cabin and the amazing privacy it affords is instantly calming....every time I walk in the door I do so with a smile. And yes the storage shed does look like a little cabin...and no we have never lived there...LOL!! Best Fred and Sue.
We enjoyed relaxing by the lake, having a fire, reading in the hammock on the porch, and dinner on the porch. It was a little bit creepy sleeping at night as our dogs woke us up quite a bit as they must have heard things. I snuck down stairs to turn the light on quick and found rodents scurrying across the floor and counters. So the dogs knew they were there and letting us know there were rodents in the house. I advise to keep food in fridge and cooler to keep the rodents and ants out. Other than that, it was a pleasant place to stay and a great location on the flowage. Perfect weather the weekend we went.

I am glad Lori enjoyed her stay. I am also sorry she experienced some field mice in the cabin. Fall is the time of year they seek out a warm spot...it is a normal northwoods thing. We do trap them immediately when they arrive but sometimes guests do experience their presence.
This was a winter retreat for our 26th anniversary with our 2 dogs. It was really a beautiful experience. The cabin is perfect for small groups ( large room with 3 large beds. The screened in porch and back porch were amazing and I can imagine how beautiful it is in summer and fall. We got snowshoes which was perfect. The flowage is lowered in winter so the side of banks are safe to snowshoe or cross country ski on ( we did both) Each night we marched out to a certain spot where a larger root/ driftwood was exposed with the lowering of the water. It was a great bench to watch the sunset. Deer would come out everywhere… the white terrain was magic to our soul. Our dogs were in heaven. Thank you for sharing your craft and lil slice of magic!!!

Nice Place
Nice little get away. If the weather was better and fish were biting, it would have been a wonderful time. The cabin is nice, very clean and inviting, great screened in porch and back deck. It is obvious the owner has put a lot of love into this cabin as can be see with the unique, little details throughout . However, on our first two nights, the neighbors were quite loud so we didn't even bother with a camp fire as we would have just spent the time listening to the loud voices and swearing. Disappointed that there were neighbors close enough to have an influence on our time since the description makes it sound as though this property is 100% secluded. We also found the beds to be creaky and uncomfortable so sleeping for us was poor. The property and scenery is gorgeous with wildlife coming literally right up to the door - as I was surprised by a deer early one morning having hostas for breakfast. Classic Wisconsin Northwoods experience.

We are sorry the neighbors were loud....I will speak with them about their guests. Our closest neighbor is a 1000 feet away...but sound carries easily over water. For lake property this cabin is very secluded....but not soundproof to other homes on the bay. Beds are handmade log beds....I imagine they do creak a bit. We are sorry this guest did not have a 5 star experience..,,most our guests do and it is what we strive for.

Worth Every Penny and More
It is hard to put into the words the truly wonderful experiences I have had at this cabin get-a-way. My husband and I (and other various family and friends) have stayed here twice in the past few years and we have truly wonderful memories that will last us a lifetime. The listing description is 100% accurate and although my sister actually booked the property both times with the owner, she expressed how helpful, honest and personable he was. The cabin itself was so awesomely rustic but at the same time provided all the ammenities that we needed. The screened in porch was definatley the highlight for me as I could snuggle up with a book and a blanket or take a nap in the hammock. At night we sat around with cocktails and played cards and board games with the wonderful woods and view of the moonlit water surrounding us. We have gone both times in mid to late September which provided perfect "snuggle" weather. The smell of the wood burning fireplace is the icing on the cake. I am revisiting this sight now as we are looking to come back for the 3rd time sometime in 2011, this time with our daughter who will be 3 then. With the lake activites and surrounding woods, I think it will be a wonderful famiy get-a-way. And it is close enough to town to provide easy access to the grocery store or shopping for a day. Can't wait to come back!!!

Although I never solicit reviews it has been nice to see the public feedback from some of my guests this summer...in this case a repeat guest from Iowa. We have an on site guest book that has dozens of positive reviews...never we have had any negative feedback. Our family retreat is a special place that we are happy to share and we appreciate those guests that find it special in the way our family has for over 20 years. The simplicity and the privacy combine to create an atmosphere that say "relax", and most of us do!!
My husband, dog an I spent New Years at this picturesque cabin. It’s like what is in the pictures but better. Practically everything in this place is bespoke. It’s got all the amenities you’ll need for a north woods getaway. The space makes you want to cozy up and relax around the fire. Truly a special place.
A note about bringing a pet: no dogs allowed on furniture or beds. If you have a dog who you know won’t follow that rule, be prepared to pack a lot of covers and blankets.
Fred was very responsive to all my questions, especially impressive during the busy holiday season. A suggestion to Fred would be to please confirm with the renter that it’s okay to bring a large dog before the window to get a full refund closes. I was a little panicked when I got the check in email asking to confirm that we were bringing a dog 3 days before the trip. It all worked out in the end, but I think would be helpful to reduce unnecessary stress for the renter.
If you’re on the fence about booking this cabin, I’m telling you… book it. You won’t regret it. My husband and I are already talking about coming back next year.

Anna was the perfect pet owner. Could not tell they had been there. I confirm dog size as pets over 60lbs need approval but that can be confusing to guests. I appreciate Anna’s comments and especially her great care of our cabin.
Very simple place. Owner built the cabin and much of the furniture. Beautiful setting, easy access to trails, nature and walking out the door. Can’t count on WiFi, but that turned out to make for a better experience.
This is the perfect winter getaway. Easy to wind down, read, enjoy the fireplace, and disconnect!! Close to a variety of restaurants at local lodges. We want to come back in the summer and enjoy the amazing screen porch!!
My significant other and I spent a wonderful Christmas weekend at the cabin. Everything was as advertised, including the spectacular views from every vantage point. We highly recommend this place.
