A bit more rustic than we had hoped
We rented this property while visiting Helen. It was very close to town and was a quaint cabin in the woods near the state park. The steps up to the cabin were unsteady and a challenge without the guard rail. It was very dark and quite difficult to walk up safely at night. The inside of the cabin was quite dusty and had lots of cobwebs and spider webs. The bathroom and shower curtains were also dirty and dingy. I don’t feel like this was a value for the cost.

Handrail Needed
The cabin was easy to find, had the listed amenities, and even though it's rustic, there were no insects. I should have realized that pets had been allowed which probably contributed to my daughter's allergic reaction-dogs and dust- requiring us to pick up antihistamine. I will say, the place has an air of neglect as if the owners have contracted out upkeep but rarely stop by themselves. The towels had a faint sour smell as if they'd been left too long in the washer before being dried. Same for the shower curtain and bedding. I noted that the listing was defined as not handicap accessible due to the stairs leading up to it. The problem is that the stairs have worn away in places and not been maintained causing uneven footing. Im thankful it did not rain during our stay as the wooden stairs would have been slippery. I feel like a load of driveway pebbles could go a long way in reducing some of the erosion that leads to the uneven footing. Lacking a handrail or anything to steady oneself combined with the uneven footing (along with extra walking usually expected in Helen) precipitated my fall our last night there. Additionally, there wasn't a first aid kit with which to care for my scraped knees. Fortunately, I travel with aloe vera gel and had bandaids in my car. My daughter said it was a medium stay; not our worst, not our best.
