About this property

Secluded getaway

Forget your worries in this spacious and serene space. Plenty of room for a multi-family vacation.
The space
2000 sq ft log cabin with two full bathrooms and three bedrooms and a loft. An additional queen bed is located on the second floor. Wrap around porch has a bbq island with a griddle and a grill. This five acre property is nestled in the middle of hundreds of acres of prairie wilderness, with virtually no other human presence other than yourself. (I do occupy a little cabin, but they are separated woods). Dog friendly, kayaks and paddle boards included. 200’ zip line from cabin to sandy beach. An amazing secluded property within an hour from the Fargo area.
Guest access
All areas can be accessed with this rental. Beach, decks, fire pit, zip line, lake and trails through the woods.
Other things to note
Rental included kayaks, paddle boards and lily pad floating mat. Fire pit area will be stocked and propane for grill and griddle is supplied. The property also has a zip line and trampoline (use at your own).Plenty of open space is included for other shenanigans. Our rules are here primarily because we’ve encountered guests who don’t respect the property, and as such have had to put these in place. Please understand that having and keeping a place like this cool and unique is a collaboration between us and the guest. This list isn’t something we wanted to do but instead had to so as to protect our property as well as insuring that you get the experience that you invested in.

- prior to leaving all garbage is to be placed in the large garbage receptacle by the end of the driveway and the lid is to be closed.
- No smoking in the house.
-Cleaning fee only includes the inside of the cabin.
- No confetti/streamers/water balloon pieces, sequins, firework garbage, etc. whatsoever. Any evidence of this will result in an additional $500 cleaning fee. No matter how much you clean, it’ll never go away. Ask me how I know……
- The stickers and items in place on the stairway are all documented. These are from our personal travels and mean a lot to us, and we love sharing them with you. However, if one of the guests decide that they like it enough to take it, there will be a $300 fee on top of what it costs to replace it. We had to put this in place because last year many items went missing. We do encourage guests to add to it if they’d like.

The outside cleaning is the responsibility of the guest, and will be subject to a $300 fee if things are left on the grounds or not tidied up. This includes but are not limited to:
- cigarette butts
- garbage in the fire pit
- garbage/beer cans in the lake or on the grounds
- grill and griddle to be cleaned and griddle grease disposed of.
- patio furniture put back on the deck.
- trampoline put back in original location by the edge of the woods
- garbage in the cans by the lake and on the deck disposed of in the cans out front.
- kayaks, lily pad, paddle boat and paddle board all put back in original location on the beach.
- we do this as we’ve struggled with how to maintain the outside of this huge property. We figured that instead of charging an additional fee for outside cleaning, the guest could just maintain their stay and save a few hundred dollars. It’s a win for both of us.

Items damaged (because sometimes it happens):
We know that sometimes things happen and items get damaged/broken. When and if this happens, if we are notified about this prior to checkout you will only be charged what the item costs as we can bring it with at cleaning time to replace. However, if we discover it once you have left the property, there will be a $300 fee in addition to the cost of whatever has been damaged. This is to cover our time/gas to drive and get it replaced. In the summer months guests are sometimes booked back to back only giving us a four hour window to clean and turn things around for the next guest, and if an amenity we offer is damaged and needs to be replaced for the next guest, we must do it as quick as possible.

Please inspect the house and property once you get there and let us know if something is damaged or if there’s anything you’re concerned with. This is a big place and sometimes things get missed and if we communicate these things we can both be assured of a fun and comfortable stay for you. We try to be as accommodating as possible as this is your vacation. We want you to have an awesome time!

Additional guests are an additional $25 per night/day as this puts an added drain and usage on the infrastructure and amenities we offer (toilet paper, paper towels, firewood, electricity, waste disposal, etc.). We ask that you be honest in your head count, we will monitor this through the aforementioned cameras, and if it is determined that the count is outside the limits of our agreement with each other, you will be asked to leave the property without a refund.

One last thing. The summer heat. We know there are heat waves and we supply portable AC units and fans. However, it is a large space and to cool it completely down on those days is virtually impossible. By using passive cooling techniques, such as opening doors and pointing the fans out will help pull that hot air out making it cooler inside.

Thank you and we hope you enjoy your stay!

Great Stay!

The property is wonderful, fun, and serene, and the cabin is quite a surprise! It accommodated 7 of us easily to have our own beds! The sunsets on the lake were beautiful, everything was clean, and Scott was very responsive and accommodating to any questions we had. It was wonderful that we could have a friend's dog join us last minute without any issues. We would definitely stay again!

Fun End of Summer Trip

We had an amazing girls' trip to end our summer at a secluded getaway. There were 8 of us in total, and everyone had their own bed. The place was huge and clean. We enjoyed using the kayaks and soaking up the sun on the lakeshore. Scott was a great host and promptly responded to any questions we had during our stay. He truly wanted our stay to be enjoyable.

Host profile image
Originally from Fargo, I traveled the world and lived in several different places, and then came back to choose Minnesota as my home. My time is spent between fixing my properties up and hanging out with my boys and my dog Piper, things I really enjoy doing. Enjoy sharing my place with people, especially after all the work I’ve done.

Why they chose this property

This place is amazing! Mud Lake is a huge wildlife lake, there’s plenty of birds and animals to look at. I acquired this property about five years ago and have made it to what it is now, and I enjoy sharing it. There are amazing sunsets, nights were the stars are plenty, and beautiful weather throughout.

What makes this property unique

You won’t find another property like this with access to water, one that is so secluded from other humans at this price. The nostalgia of the log cabin is epic, and the natural setting is absolutely amazing.
