We have stayed here in the past and plan to come back. We've always stayed during the colder months, but there are plenty of amenities for families that want to stay in warmer weather as well. Convenient location. Everything is updated and the beds are luxuious. Excellent wi-fi.
Very spacious, clean and well appointed. Perfect for a multi-party gathering, there’s room enough for everyone to have their own space, but with a large dining table, living room, downstairs game/TV room, and outdoor deck/firepit to gather. Kitchen is well appointment and functional for complete meals. For light sleepers, though, the front two bedrooms do get noise from the road.
We had a really nice stay. The house was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the backyard deck and grill. Our host Sarah was very responsive to our questions and we would recommend staying at this property.
We enjoyed our weekend exploring local wineries and breweries and this was the best location. Nice fire pit as well. Great downstairs game room with tv. Would definitely rent again
House was very comfortable, very nicely decorated. It was a great location! We truly enjoyed our time and look forward to our next visit! Had all the little things that made the property special!
This house was in the perfect location for visiting the local wineries, cideries, and distilleries!! We loved the fire pit and the house was perfect for us.
The listing says that you can walk to a brewery but we did not think that it was safe to walk along 151.
We stayed for two nights at the end of September. Sarah’s home is very cozy and has everything needed for a lovely stay. We found the home clean and inviting. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. Sarah is very responsive. The location is close to wineries and breweries and Shenandoah National Park is easily accessible. We enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to recommend!
We stayed for a week for my husband's graduation at Liberty University. It was an easy drive into Lynchburg and we also had easy access to DC which we spent a couple days exploring there. we will definitely stay her again inthe future. The house is very well kept, the beds are extremely comfortable which i have found to be a main issue with other houses we've stayed at through VRBO. Iwould recommend bringing your own pillow as the ones provided are a little less comfortable. Not a huge deal but worth mentioning. The owner was very helpful and enjoyable to work with. There is a lot of house to spread out in, kitchen has anything you could need for entertaining and meal prep. We enjoyed an entire day outside on their lovely deck and also enjoyed playing with their variety of yard games. There has definitely been considerable thought put into making this place a family friendly stay. The downstairs area is a great place to cool off and just chill. I enjoyed all their vintage decor including the vintage convertible coffee table. It converts into a dining table in the coolest way! All in all this place exceeded my expectations and was a wonderful and comfortable place to stay for the week. We will definitely stay here again in the future! theweek.loit!rea but again.
Booked this last minute and had a great stay! The house is located in an ideal spot near breweries, wineries and distilleries. The house itself is spotless, comfortable, and spacious. The room in the basement was excellent for movies and family time. Kitchen was equipped with whatever you need. The backyard had a firepit that the owner graciously stocked with wood to burn. Would definitely be back and recommend to anyone traveling with friends or family. Thank you for the great stay!
Beautiful area ... surrounded by mountains. Awesome breweries and wineries.
Property was perfect for a family with little kids. Big yard, swings, patios.
The home was spotless and cozy! And perfectly situated near many wineries and breweries. The area was gorgeous and we appreciated all the suggestions from the owners on where to go to eat. Thanks for a great trip! We will be back!
I celebrated my 50th w two other couples and this was the perfect location to check out all that route 151 in Nelson County had to offer! The house sits right on route 151 where so many great breweries, wineries, and cideries were just minutes away. We also enjoyed all the great food these places had to offer! Many great hikes near by as well. We will definitely be back—so much more to explore! The house was the perfect size for 3 couples for the weekend. The kitchen was well stocked, beds were all comfy, a/c was cold, and the wi-fi worked great in a mountainous area.No complaints! We will rent again!
Property was more spacious than the pictures give it credit for. Nice and clean with a cool game room. Great location for the 151 trail and the outdoor area was great for the evenings. The 2 decks allowed some separation when it was needed. Host was very responsive. Overall great stay.
Enjoyed the property! We had a great time and my son was not ready to leave. The property had everything we needed for the weekend. Sarah was very responsive and communicated well. There was some unexpected road noise, like the occasional commercial truck or emergency vehicles. There are a few board games stashed away (I lost repeatedly at connect four). Would recommend and would definitely return.
Came to visit last weekend with a small group of girlfriends and had a wonderful time at the house! The home was clean, well organized, and had lots of space!
Our favorite places to hangout were the backyard, and the basement which had lots of seating and a big TV! My friends and I spending a majority of our time in the backyard playing cornhole, cooking on the grill and sitting by the fire pit stargazing and making s’mores.
The location is also very close to multiple vineyards and breweries and an easy drive into downtown Charlottesville! Highly recommend.
Myself, my boyfriend and 4 of our closest friends stayed in Sarah's home over the weekend and we fell in love with her home. It's very spacious, very clean, very comfortable, absolutely beautiful. Photos do not do this house justice! The home was very welcoming, check in and check out process were very simple. Sarah was very quick to respond to any questions we had and she recommended some amazing wineries nearby. The only thing we couldnt find on the property that is listed in the amenities was the hot tub. We highly enjoyed our stay, wish we had one extra day and we will be returning in 2024! We were unable to use the firepit, only because we ran out of time; hence why we want the extra day!
We booked this property for a mostly mid-week visit to VA wine country (our first visit for this purpose - it won't be the last as the wine was really good at a bit more than half the vineyards we visited. We like dry wines if that helps anyone). This property was perfectly located for our purpose as it was a pretty short drive to some of the best vineyards in the Monticello AVA. The house was cozy, charming, clean, and private. It was off a fairly busy road, but the road noise was not overly loud, or bothersome. The kitchen was amply supplied with items needed for cooking, and included some rudimentary spices, and olive oil. There was even a drawer with baggies, foil, and plastic wrap which was unexpected and very much appreciated. The bathrooms were also well stocked (hand soap, extra TP, large bottles of shampoo, conditioner & body wash. I bring my own toiletries, but I thought it was nice that it was supplied), and had good water pressure and plenty of hot water. The beds were firm (memory foam), but comfortable. We spent our evenings drinking wine, and listening to music on the deck off the master bedroom. Our nights were spent in the downstairs rec room watching TV while relaxing on the very comfy furniture. The owner was wonderful to work with and very responsive to our questions, and requests. They even supplied a brand new iron and ironing board when I asked if there was one available. We will definitely look to rent this property again one day!

About the host

We have been renting out our beach homes for many years. We decided we needed to add a mountain home with lots to do. We selected the Afton area based on the many things available to do and the beautiful location.
Why they chose this property
This rustic farmhouse needed some love, and we have been working on it for several months to remodel. Some of the wood floors still have scratches and there will always be work to do here, but we have come to love the home and hope you will too.
What makes this property unique
Great location and scenic backyard!
