About this property
Wonderland Home | 2BR retreat, mins to Acadia NP
Summary:
Escape to our peaceful, light-filled, 2-bedroom home on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island. Just a short drive from the iconic vistas and trails of Acadia National Park, this welcoming retreat offers a comfortable stay for up to 6 guests and features hi-speed WiFi, a fully equipped kitchen and numerous amenities within a serene natural setting. Enjoy the adventure of the nearby park and towns, or simply relax in the tranquility of our surroundings. Perfect for a truly memorable getaway!
The Space:
Welcome to a thoughtfully designed, two-bedroom home nestled into nearly six, quiet acres in the picturesque town of Tremont, Maine. Accommodating up to six guests, it is ideal for families or small groups of friends seeking a peaceful retreat. You'll find everything you need to feel right at home.
The main house is the heart of the home with the kitchen, living room, laundry room, primary bedroom and loft with Smart TV and pull-out couch. The primary bedroom has a queen bed, two closets, and numerous windows with views of the surrounding landscape. The loft, overlooking the living room and accessible by generous carpeted stairs, offers a Smart TV, a big welcoming bean bag for the kids or young at heart, and a pull-out couch with a queen-size, natural latex and organic cotton mattress. The bungalow, formerly an artist’s studio, is located just steps from the main house and has a queen-sized bed in an adorable suite with half bath.
Your group will love spending time in the common areas of our home. The living room is open and inviting, with comfortable seating surrounded by windows and a Bose stereo. Accessible from the living room, you'll find a beautiful deck and yard with views into the Maine woods. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to prepare meals at home, and the dining area with its surrounding windows is perfect for enjoying family meals and games together. Throughout the property, small artistic touches abound, including stained glass windows, custom tile around the entryway, and stone sculptures tucked into the landscape. Both the main house and the bungalow are equipped with heat pumps, ensuring cool, comfortable air conditioning on warm summer days.
But the real highlight of our home is its location - perfect for those looking for a quiet and relaxing base for exploring the natural beauty, history and culture of the island while avoiding the traffic and crowds of Bar Harbor. We are just a short drive from the stunning Acadia National Park and so much more that the island has to offer, including Thurston’s Lobster Pound (for lobster dinner overlooking a working harbor), the Wonderland and Ship Harbor trailheads (some of our favorite short hikes to ever-changing views along the coast), the ferry to Swan’s Island, the Bass Harbor Head Light Station, the sandy swimming beach at Echo Lake, and the vibrant little town of Southwest Harbor with its shops, galleries and restaurants (don’t miss the bakery!).
When you're ready to relax at home, enjoy a cup of coffee on the deck as you take in the beauty of the Maine forest, curl up with a book in the light-filled living room, set up a puzzle on the card table or a game of croquet in the yard, or help yourself to the array of games, music and books. And when the day is done, watch the sun set over the trees, listen for the owls, and marvel at the star-filled night sky. Acadia National Park and the surrounding area is known to be one of the best spots for stargazing in New England.
Other Things to Note:
While we welcome families, this home is not child proof / childproofed (e.g., cupboards and cleaning supplies are accessible, sockets are not covered, window blinds are corded) and is best suited for adults or responsible guardians with older children. Additionally, there is a wood stove in the living room of the main house that is not available for guest use.
We are committed to sourcing eco-friendly products and materials that minimize impacts to our communities and our environment. Among other things, you’ll find organic cotton bedding in the bedrooms, organic cotton bath towels, responsibly sourced bathroom amenities, and couches manufactured with natural materials.
Need to work while travelling? We have strong, high-speed WiFi and a couple different options for locations to set up your work area, including a quiet desk in the bungalow and a dedicated work space in the main house, between the primary bedroom and front hall.
