About this property
Modern Lake House on a secluded cove on Long Pond, Mount Desert Island!
Enjoy Long Pond and Acadia National Park at Long Pond Escape, a private home built in 2016, on six acres of woods located on a secluded cove on the northwest corner of Long Pond.
The first floor features bright, open living space with a fully equipped kitchen, island with 4 stools, a large dining table (seats 8), and a half bath and living room area with a wood stove. Doors open to a spacious deck facing the lake, and to a side screened porch. Master bedroom with queen bed and a 32" TV, and a master bath with glassed shower. The master bedroom has views of Long Pond.
Upstairs are three bedrooms: queen (also with a 32" TV), double, and one with a twin bed and a bunk bed (2 twins), and a full bath. All three upstairs bedrooms have views of Long Pond.
There is a finished basement with a family room with a 55" TV with blu-ray disk player and Roku player, a game room with a mini pool table, a full bath with shower. The laundry room is also on this floor. Double French doors open to a stone patio with a fire pit.
Head down to the private dock and enjoy a swim or paddle and discover the quiet side of Long Pond. A canoe, five kayaks, three paddle boards, a row boat and a pedal boat are all available for your enjoyment. If you don't feel like swimming or boating, the dock is also great for sunbathing, reading, fishing, or just enjoying the view of the lake with Cadillac, Sargent, Beech, Mansell and Bernard Mountains in the background. You can also enjoy the loons and ducks that swim by every day, and on occasion you'll see great blue herons and bald eagles. On clear nights, the dock is a great place for stargazing -- see the Milky Way in all its glory.
Note: the dock and swim float are in the water between May and early October, but will be taken in for the year in mid-October.

About the host
Hosted by Tim McAllister

Our family has owned the property since 1971, when we built a log cabin on the site. Over the years we gradually added "amenities" like telephone, electricity and indoor plumbing. We had loads of wonderful memories in the place, but eventually it was in need of too many repairs, so we took it down and replaced it with a new house that was completed in 2016. We've spent many wonderful summers at this location, and always look forward to returning.
Why they chose this property
The location on Long Pond, the largest lake on Mount Desert Island, is ideal. We're the only house on a large cove; you can see houses across the lake, but none on either side of our property. The property is directly on the lake, and is surrounded by acres of woods. You'll definitely see ducks, loons, chipmunks and red squirrels, and you may well see deer on the property as well as bald eagles and other wildlife. This is a place with hundreds of activities to keep you occupied at all times, but it's also a place of great tranquility -- perfect for downtime to escape the hectic daily routine of work, school, etc.
While you can enjoy peace and quiet at the house, when you crave other activities, it's a short drive to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor and all of the other villages on Mount Desert Island. Southwest Harbor is about a 15 minute drive; Bar Harbor and Northeast Harbor are about 20 minutes away, as are the entrances to Cadillac Mountain and the Park Loop Road. The nearest Acadia National Park facilities are the Pretty Marsh Picnic Area and Beech Mountain, both of which are only 5 minutes away.

What makes this property unique
There are many homes available to rent on Mount Desert Island, but very few offer the feeling of "getting away from it all" that you'll experience at Long Pond Escape.
