The Cedar Cabin, on Broadwing Farm's 85 acres, is set in a private cove surrounded by sheltering pines and is our most secluded cabin. With its cozy one bedroom/ one bath design and generous screen porch, you can spend your stay relaxing and listening to the breeze whisper through the forest. The Cedar Cabin offers a full kitchen, TV with DVD, and Roku with complementary Netflix and HBO, Wifi, AC/propane fireplace and propane grill. The private bedroom has a queen size bed and the living room has a queen sleeper sofa, making this cabin well suited for a couple or small family. All towels and linens are provided. During the warmer months, a couch on the glorious screened porch allows for extra sleeping and, according to some guests, a spectacular napping spot. As this cabin is situated in the forest, what you give up in views you gain with complete privacy and the screen porch.
During the growing season (April - October), we grow a variety of crops in a large kitchen garden and invite our guests to come pick fresh, organic vegetables during the growing season. All our vegetables are complimentary. Our guests are also welcome to enjoy fishing in our scenic farm pond.
We also sell No Spray/Not Certified Organic U-Pick Blueberries for picking in June and July.

About the host
Hosted by Pete or Mary Dixon

Our family moved to Hot Springs in the Fall of 1992. We began farming organic vegetables for tailgate markets in Hot Springs and Asheville and sold a wide range of vegetables, plants, flowers, jams and baked goods. In 2001 we decided to open up the farm to guests, renting the Pine Cabin. It was a great success and we now have three cabins available for nightly and weekly rental year round. While drilling a well for water (we formally relied completely on the town water system) we were surprised to find the famous Hot Springs mineral water, which we are happy to share with our guests. The farm is ever changing and evolving. We now grow two main crops, organic heirloom tomatoes and blackberries, and sell to local stores and restaurants from Hot Springs to Asheville, also making these crops and our garden vegetables available to our guests when in season. We also offer vegetable, flower and herb plants in the Springs and sell each first weekend of May at the Annual Herb Festival at the WNC Farmers Market.
Why they chose this property
We are located less than 1 mile from downtown Hot Springs, NC, in an area of the Blue Ridge Mountains with a wide range of activities, including hiking (the Appalachian Trail is the main street thru Hot Springs), rafting, fishing, horseback riding, and best of all...relaxing!
What makes this property unique
More than 200 years ago, settlers and explorers to this area discovered what native people had known for ages: here along the banks of the ancient French Broad River there is naturally warm mineral water flowing up from the depths of the earth. In the eastern US that is a very rare thing! No doubt it is because of this, that the town of Hot Springs, NC has grown and thrived since 1800 and continuously been a destination for heath and relaxation seekers. In 1999 we discovered, by accident, in a well we had drilled for drinking water that the naturally warm waters of Hot Springs NC were flowing beneath Broadwing Farm. This naturally warm water is one of the main benefits for visitors to Broadwing Farm in Hot Springs, NC. We have situated a a hot tub outside each of our three cabins and we fill it fresh for each group of guests. Our water comes up from the well at 85 degrees. The hot tubs add the final touches of heat and are adjustable to whatever temperature is desired. From 1992 to 2007 we primarily grew vegetables for our living, and although that is no longer our primary source of income, we still actively pursue the farming way of life. We have a young but large blueberry patch, some tame delicious triple crown blackberries, apples, cherries trees, and a large and beautiful garden, all which provide a tremendous bounty thru the year. We also tend a wonderful flock of steadfast and productive hens who provide farm fresh eggs daily. It's a joy to be able to share the bounty with our guests, but what's funner still is meeting our guests in the garden or around the farm. Our visit may include sharing a sunset by the pond, visiting by an apple tree and checking the fruit for readiness or digging some potatoes for dinner. Growing food is central to our way of life. It is the feeling and flavor of fresh food and watching it grow that we love and believe in, and we hope our guests will benefit from this way of life too.
