The space
Dated back to 1911, the Valley Hearth offers the perfect blend of vintage aesthetic and modern comfort. Furnished with brand new Serta mattresses, sparkling white linens, and a fully equipped kitchen and laundry room, we're confident you'll love it here.

☼ INDOORS ☼
You’ll enter the home into a large open-concept entryway / dining area / kitchen with hard wood floors and natural lighting. Around the corner you'll find a cozy, rounded living room with original 1900s Craftsman windows. Along with the perfect sunlit spot for a morning cup of coffee, the living room also offers comfortable seating, a smart TV with complimentary entertainment applications, an original fireplace and hearth, and several local books carefully scattered about.

☼ BEDROOMS & BATH ☼
The Valley Hearth comfortably sleeps up to four guests, making it ideal for couples, friends, and families. Both the king and queen bedrooms include brand new Serta mattresses with lush white linens. Both bedrooms are designed to feel spacious and inviting, each with a cozy reading corner and ample closet space.

The home also includes one bright and spacious bathroom, which features a tub-style shower and all the essentials, from toilet paper to shampoo, soaps, towels, makeup cloths, and more.

☼ KITCHEN & DINING ☼
The fully stocked kitchen features a gas stove, single oven, microwave, and dual refrigerator / freezer. The cabinets are stocked with cookware, dishes, glasses, cutlery, cooking utensils, bakeware, spices, coffee maker, and all the other appliances and essentials for a home-cooked meal or morning cup of valley coffee.

Just beside the kitchen, the dining table offers seating for four with morning-to-evening sunshine naturally softened by our outdoor wisteria, myrtle, and bamboo trees.

☼ OUTDOORS ☼
The Valley Hearth sits on a residential street just four blocks from downtown Harrisonburg. The property offers off-street driveway parking for a maximum of two average-sized vehicles. Additional vehicles are welcome to park in the public parking lot bordering our property. A sidewalk connects the parking lot and driveway to our wraparound porch, where guests have private access to the entire left side of the porch and everything inside the ground-level unit.

We highly encourage guests to explore the neighborhood, especially Ott Street and the Woodbine Cemetery. Although cemeteries get a bad rap for being spooky, the Woodbine Cemetery is one of our favorite spots in Harrisonburg and a beautiful place to watch the sun sink behind the Blue Ridge.

☼ MORE DETAILS ☼
Although the house was built in 1911, recent renovations have installed central heating and cooling in every room to keep our guests comfortable year-round. Guests will have independent access to the thermostat.

Please contact us if you have any questions about the home or the area in general. We look forward to welcoming you to the valley!

Guest access
The house has been converted into two units. Guests will have private access to the entire ground unit, including:
☼ Driveway
☼ Left side of the front porch
☼ Private door & entryway
☼ Private unit with two bedrooms, living room, kitchen, dining area, and bathroom

We, the hosts, live in the upstairs unit with one housemate. The house has been thoroughly insulated and soundproofed, but you may hear footsteps from above. You may also see or hear us entering our unit from the right side of the front porch.

Hello! I'm Alli, a free spirit drawn to the Shenandoah Valley by the mountain views, slow pace of life, and adventurous opportunities. One of my favorite things to do in the valley is to go for slow walks around town, especially Ott Street and the Woodbine Cemetery.

My husband Tom and I live in the upstairs of our rental with a close friend. The house has been thoroughly insulated and soundproofed, but you may hear footsteps above or us entering our unit from the front porch. However, the guest space is completely private from our residential space.

We love sharing our little piece of downtown Harrisonburg with travelers from near and far. We hope you come and stay at our home in Harrisonburg, VA!

Why they chose this property

The Valley Hearth sits on a residential street only four blocks from downtown Harrisonburg. The neighborhood itself is quiet and safe, creating a peaceful environment for working, sleeping, and slowing down. But with award-winning coffee shops, restaurants, and markets less than a quarter-mile away, the home truly offers the best of both worlds.

What makes this property unique

Built in 1911, the Valley Hearth offers lovely insights back to the days of its design. The front of the house boasts an original wrap-around porch, the perfect semi-covered space to enjoy a home-cooked meal or favorite drink while watching the world go by. Inside the house, the living room takes center stage—boasting Craftsman-style weighted windows and an original brick fireplace, the historic gathering spot for family meals and quality time.
