About this property
River House - Cabin at Lost River
Summary:
River House is a two bedroom vacation cabin, sleeping up to 6 guests, located on the edge of the Paysaten wilderness. The home features a generous porch at the front and large deck to the rear. The site abuts a seasonal channel of the Methow River and looks out across woodland to the mountains beyond. The location is at Lost River Airport which is a secluded home-owner community, around the Lost River airstrip, 7 miles north-west of Mazama.
The Space:
River House has one queen bedroom, bathroom, galley kitchen and open plan living space on the ground floor. Upstairs is a loft bedroom, with a queen bed, that is open to the living space below.
The kitchen is equipped with an electric cook stove, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, kettle, toaster, and coffee maker. The living space includes a cast iron propane stove, dining table, couch (with hide-a-bed), and two easy chairs: the large windows look out towards the river bank and forest. Wood paneled walls and ceilings throughout the home provide a cozy cabin ambiance.
River house sleeps up to six guests with the following sleeping arrangements: queen bed in downstairs bedroom, queen bed in the loft space (open to living room below), and fold out couch in the living room.
The bathroom has a bath tub with a shower over. Heating is provided by wall heaters and the propane stove. Cooling is provided by an air conditioning unit in the loft space, ceiling fan in the living room, and a pedestal fan in the downstairs bedroom. A stacked washer-dryer unit is located in curtained closet space in the downstairs bedroom. Both the front porch and back deck each have a pair of adirondack chairs, and there is a propane grill available on the back deck.
River House is a true get-away cabin located right on the edge of the Pasayten Wilderness area. Nearby trails include the West Fork Methow Trail, and Robinson Creek Trail. Hart’s Pass with access to more wilderness trails including the PCT is 13 miles drive (around 40 minutes).
The Neighborhood:
The Lost River Airport community is located at the end of the paved road around 7 miles northwest of Mazama. This is a community of full-time residences and vacation homes built around the Lost River Airstrip.
Getting Around:
Getting here:
May to November, from Seattle and the westside, you can drive over highway 20 and Washington Pass (check WSDOT for closures). Alternate, and winter routes from Seattle are via I90, Snoqualmie Pass and Blewett Pass, or highway 2 over Stevens Pass (check WSDOT for driving conditions). From Mazama it is a 7 mile drive up the Lost River Road.

The Mazama Store, Pub and Trailhead are a 10-15 minute drive back down the road, while the closest trailhead for the Methow Trails winter cross country ski trails is at The Bush School, 4 miles / 8 minutes drive from the cabin.
