About this property
Old Forest Cottage on Douglas Island. Five-minute drive to downtown Juneau!
Welcome to Old Forest Cottage, your personal haven nestled in North Douglas's lush wilderness, just a quick 5-minute drive from downtown Juneau. Here, you can enjoy the city's vibrant life and return to the serenity of nature - it's truly the best of both worlds.
Step inside our unique loft-style guesthouse and feel an instant connection to your surroundings. The cozy living area is perfect for unwinding after a day of Alaskan adventures. Upstairs, the loft bedroom presents unparalleled views of the forest and mountains through three loft-height windows. In the Land of the Midnight Sun, you might find dawn comes early, but don’t worry - sleep masks are provided for those who prefer to sleep in a bit.
Our Old Forest Cottage comfortably accommodates various guest arrangements with its versatile sleeping options. The loft houses a comfortable king-size bed that invites you to unwind after a day full of adventures. Back downstairs in the living area, you'll find a twin daybed with a trundle that can be converted into a cozy couch during the day. This flexible setup caters to your needs, whether you're a couple seeking a romantic getaway or a group of friends exploring the wonders of Juneau.
You have a private, fenced yard and a small deck amidst the forest's tranquility. Outside the Cottage's fence, explore the forest and stream that runs along the property and even pick some salmon berries or blueberries (seasonal availability). Listen to the cheerful cawing of our local ravens, and watch for other wildlife, including deer, bears, and porcupines. Regarding landscaping, we've kept things wild and natural to enhance the authenticity of your wilderness stay.
While our guesthouse is near a main road, the accessibility it provides more than makes up for the occasional traffic sounds. If you're considering going car-free during your stay, hopping on a bike could be a fantastic option. You can embrace the Alaskan way of life and enjoy a scenic, two-mile bike ride that will take you across the island's single bridge and directly into downtown Juneau. Cycle Alaska is at the base of the bridge (Juneau side) and offers daily rentals. The North Douglas Highway, which you'll use for about one mile of the journey, does have a designated bike lane, but it's integrated into the road's shoulder rather than being a separate path.
As your hosts, we live in the main house on the property. We're always available if you need anything or want local recommendations, but we're also committed to respecting your privacy. We do have dogs who may bark a friendly hello, but they usually stay indoors and won't disturb your peaceful retreat.
Picture your stay: a day filled with exploring Juneau's offerings, then coming home to your own private sanctuary in the woods. That's what awaits you at Old Forest Cottage. We look forward to welcoming you!
We are registered with the city of Juneau as CBJ1000014.
