Dear Courtney it was lovely to have you and your family stay with us. I know the beaches are 30-45 min away from my house, but this gives guests the opportunity to explore Ka’u the most southern part of the island. This region is authentic Hawaiian experience on Mauna Loa.
Great little off-the-beaten path of the Big Island. Loved the quiet, the millions of stars, the fireplaces, and the amazing volcanic rock that seemed abundant everywhere. Like it's a botanist's dream!Stayed with our 3 teens. the owner Stacy was phenomenal, welcoming, sharp as a whip, and contributed immensely to our stay. The caretaker Jen was super available for any questions, concerns, or needs we had. Thank you both tremendously!Best regards!Shannon

It was a very peaceful place It was simple but for our family it was ok Only bad thing it was far from the beach
The place is quirky and arty located in southern mountain part of the island. Stacy and Jen are kind, friendly and responsive. However, we find it hard to enjoy our stay for three main reasons, 1, the pump is loud and turns on constantly, so that the tranquility is gone. 2, the curtains is too basic for our peace of mind with darkness outside the window, especially in the room where steam chamber is. 3. Starlink can’t be power on for two days of our three days stay. These are all very doable things to make guests enjoy the stay more I think.
We enjoyed our stay in this eclectic, off-the-beaten-path oasis. It's quirky and a bit of a drive to get there and back to the highway, but it was so nice to be able to spread out and relax! Jen was a phenomenal hostess and took care of all of our needs!
Beautiful & peaceful location on the big island away from the busier areas. Our host was very welcoming and always made sure we had everything we needed. We really enjoyed falling asleep to the sounds of a crackling fire every night. Large house with everything we needed and a very unique private yard setting.

We had a wonderful time staying here. Its is a nice cozy place to stay. Peace and quite away from the crowd. But close enough to drive to see all the sites. We only met the host jen the first day. She was kind and thoughtful.
Ohana house is a very special place. It is peaceful and beautiful. Come prepared with warm clothes for nights and early mornings and just enjoy being in a beautiful part of the world. Host is lovely and easy to work with.

Dear Jonah it was so lovely to have you and your family stay with us. Jen really loved visiting with your girls and playing music with you. You were so glad that you got to enjoy the big island. Aloha.
I'm going to be extremely honest. There were things I wanted to let slide but decided shouldn't.Upon arrival we were greeted by Jen who was so drunk she could barely stand couldn't remember where she put our key or how to let us in the house. There was stuff that should have been done but wasn't, the fridge wasn't started and towels were just left in a garbage bag and bottles from drinking were scattered about. In addition to the stove being propane the fridge is also run by propane and because it hadn't been started previously we had to learn how to start it, with some help from Jen. It turned off several times during our stay, even without the propane running out. The tanks used to run all the things are just 20lb tanks like you'd use for a gas grill rather than big ones that should be used to run a house. Only 4 solar panels to run entire house and warnings about electricity usage. We didn't run out, but we did make sure to conserve. Water is not potable. At first we thought this was what offgrid living in HI is like but we stayed in another offgrid home in HI and it was nothing like this. ona storm hit while we were there. The owner should have been responsible and told us the house was not able to handle the storm and had us leave on Thursday before the storm hit. Instead we found out on our own how ill equipped the house was. There was a leak in the ceiling, dripped onto the bed 1st day. Then the rain poured through windows and puddled and dripped throughout home.
We decided to take a chance on this place because we wanted some quiet for the beginning of our trip, Overall our stay was pretty good, it is cold up in that high of elevation and definitely felt a little bit like camping. We had some trouble getting things to work properly and was unaware we would need to make fires at night to keep warm. It is very peaceful, but a far drive from most beaches. If you’re looking to getaway and be able to completely relax this isn’t the place for you. Beautiful star gazing and a far drive from most things this is the place for you. A better description of the property would be helpful for future guests.

Thank you for staying with us. I have taken your advise and updated the description to let people know about the remote nature and the wood heat. I know our house is rustic, but that is what we like about it. It is old Hawaiian style living with conveniences. Mahalo
It was very rustic. I didn’t realize how rustic and it was abit from the beaten path. That said there was no loud noises, no one bothering you, the stars were so beautiful. (there is a stellascope ) One of the beds was a little hard to sleep on. I had to move to the couch. There were other beds but they were upstairs. I am 70 and have bad knees so i was a little concerned about going up and down the stairs at night. No biggie. It was a little chilly at nights. There was 2 stoves and plenty of firewood but honestly my nephew and i was concerned about starting a fire. But there were plenty of blankets and i love to snuggle under them. The owner Stacy and the hostess Jen were great! Answered our questions. Quick responses. If you’re looking for a tv (plenty of board games and books), a microwave (cast iron skillet and grill), steady internet and ready, instant hot water, this isn’t it. But if you’re looking for peace and quiet, beautiful sky, friendly cat, quickie meal prep, a get-a-way from hectic life of the city, home cooked meals, beautiful vegetation and snuggling under a blanket, this is the place. Would we rent again? Absolutely!

Thank you for your kind review. I’m sorry the loft bed was not comfortable for you, I will look into putting a new mattress on it.
