The property was perfect for us - 2 sets of married couples and 3 kids. We loved the view from the dining room over the water and being in the woods, quiet and away from traffic. The kids loved playing pool when we weren't out enjoying the park trails and the water. It also helped that the weather was perfect while we were there (60s at night, 70s in the day)!

The property was stunning, and the views were amazing! The upstairs lounging area was very comfortable and we enjoyed the pool table. The kitchen had all the essentials, which was very appreciated. We got the chance to meet the host's parents, who were so welcoming and fun to talk to! Unfortunately we had water issues throughout our stay. Both toilets had issues flushing, and our water pressure when showering was less than satisfactory (even if only one shower was being used at a time). Also, it would have been nice to have a nonstick pan to cook eggs (the only plans available were not good). The place itself was adorable all nestled away in the woods, which was very private and secluded, but we didn't realize it was 20 min drive to get to Bar Harbor with all the winding, low speed limit roads. That was our mistake, thinking that 7 minutes away meant about 10 min drive. All in all, the place is beautiful and the four of us had a wonderful trip; however, we couldn't imagine having 8 people stay in this house with how small the bathrooms are, the low water pressure for showering, and all the toilet problems.

Beautiful view of the cove and bay, great sunsets!! Everything we needed was in the cottage and the location is perfect, away from the crowds but with easy access to all trails and towns on the island. Just a perfect place to relax and use as a home base for a fantastic visit to MDI. We highly recommend this rental and would definitely go back!

Perfect spot!

We absolutely loved our stay here! The views from the property are much nicer than the pictures even appear. The location is absolutely perfect! You are within 20 minutes to Acadia National park as well as Bar harbor. Also very close to mainland if you want to go off the island for anything. Also, our hosts were very gracious, friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We will definitely be back!

The property was clean, modern, very comfortable and very peaceful. The hosts and property manager were friendly and available without being intrusive. They gave us some great suggestions for places to visit that we wouldn’t have found on our own. The view from the house at sunset in the picture is even more beautiful in person. The property was lovely. There’s a bocci court and a deck with table and chairs that was nice for outdoor meals. The location was excellent for getting to all parts of Mount Desert Island while also being easily accessible for exploring off-island. And it was very quiet. To top it all off, the beds were extremely comfortable (unlike the pricey hotels we stayed in before and after our time at the house). We had 6 adults and 3 cars at the house with no issues. We enjoyed the amenities: barbecue, pool table, 3 TVs, 2 full baths, leather power reclining sectional upstairs and, of course, the pool table. There was also a selection of games a group or family could enjoy. The kitchen had microwave, convection range, refrigerator/freezer and all the pots and pans you’d need for your meals. They even had a Keurig for your morning coffee! It’s a great place for adults and kids. I highly recommend it.

Fantastic Home, Wonderful Hosts

We had such a wonderful, memorable stay in Ralph and Judy's guest cottage, and can't imagine a nicer place to stay in Bar Harbor and Acadia. From the gorgeous view of the cove and wildflowers to their helpful recommendations for walks and hikes to the upstairs billiards table and outside bocce, all of us had a fantastic time. The kitchen is very well equipped, and everything worked perfectly. Highly recommended!

Perfect Spot for Acadia

We had a great week here. The house is comfortable, well equipped and full of extras. Just far enough from the crowds and close enough to everyplace we wanted to visit. Fall colors were at their peak and we could have just stayed in the house all week and had a fine time in the yard and on the deck. Judy and Ralph are perfect hosts. Michael and Barbara

Secluded Property yet very close to everything

Stayed in the cottage with two families, we had our 9 year old daughter and my sister's family had a 1 year old son. The property is not large, but the perfect size for our summer vacation. The upstairs game room is perfect for kids to sleep and to hang out. The master bedroom is very large. The second bedroom is tiny, but enough for a couple. The property is clean and has a lovely view. It is secluded and you don't notice the owners next door. The property manager was very very responsive. Lovely visit.

Relaxing cottage with great views and sunsets Accommodating to the children with games and toys. Fully stocked kitchen. We were initially concerned about privacy being that the owners Ralph and Judy live right next to the cottage and can see into the windows but turns out they were nice and gave us our space. Also they were friendly and gave recommendations on where to eat and hike in the area.

Great Location for a Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park Adventure

Judy and Ralph were the perfect hosts. Excellent communication from the start and offered great information and resources for exploring Desert Mountain Island. The cottage was very clean and exactly as presented. Easy access to everything that the island has to offer, including being super close to what we think was the best lobster roll spot, The Travelin' Lobster. Try the Hot Roll!! Can't say enough... such a beautiful place to visit and explore and we got to come back every night to a beautiful sunset over Western Bay.

Exploring Acadia

Our stay at this VRBO was so enjoyable! Judy and Ralph did a good job communicating before we arrived and were friendly and helpful throughout our whole stay. Our cottage was super clean, a great size for four, and we especially enjoyed the game room for playing pool! The setting was glorious — surrounded by trees but a great view of the cove. The deck was perfect for viewing the gorgeous sunsets. We saw deer, a wild turkey, and heard an owl on two nights! Perfect place to stay while exploring Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park!

A true Maine treasure

We had an amazing time at this little slice of Heaven! Located on a private road, overlooking a beautiful cove, this house matches the description given by the host. We had everything we needed to make this a comfortable stay, as we spent a week exploring Mount Desert Island and Acadia. This property was located an hour from Bangor Int Airport, 20 minutes from Ellsworth, a 15 minute drive to Bar Harbor, and a 20-30 min drive to Jordan Pond House. It was a quick drive to and from everywhere we wanted to go - we never felt like we were in the car too long. Kitchen and bathrooms are stocked with the essentials, so we chose to cook multiple nights using their things. They provided a binder full of information and directions about things to do in the area. A majority of their windows are screened, so you can have the windows open without worrying about bugs. They have a nice little table on the back deck where we played many car games. The only thing I would note is that if you sleep in the loft, there are skylights. So during the summer months where there is an early sunrise, you might consider an eye mask to sleep longer. The hosts were kind, helpful and responsive. It was truly a hidden gem! We will be back!

Welcome to our home! Ralph and Judy are retired educators from New Jersey. They have owned the property for over 45 years, moving to the property full-time 27 years ago. They would not consider living anywhere else! They are at their happiest when their 3 adult children, 12 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchild visit!

Over the early years, Ralph created a great many custom art pieces of stained glass. Many of which were incorporated into their home and guesthouse. Many others were custom crafted as gifts to their children for their specific homes. True stewards to the MDI community, volunteering their time over the years to serve on a local board of directors for developmentally handicapped adults and children.

Their youngest daughter, Jennifer, will be managing the rental property, so they can sit back and enjoy the fruits of their labor! You may see Ralph tending to his gardens, or Judy running her errands. Feel free to say hello or ask questions, otherwise they will respect your privacy.

Why they chose this property

We were first attracted to Mount Desert Island in 1972 when we visited the island with 3 young children. We especially enjoyed hiking and biking the carriage trails, climbing the many mountain trails, swimming in both Echo Lake and Sand Beach and picking wild blueberries! Judy and I bought this property over 40 years ago and retired here in 1998. We are wholly blessed in our life together and love the tranquility of the property.

Enjoy your stay in our guest home and have your cameras ready!

What makes this property unique

Peaceful setting & location. Our view of Clark's Cove is amazing, no matter the season. Have your camera ready at sunset, you will surely capture spectacular colors! At night, enjoy the peace and quite while gazing at the millions of stars dancing in the night sky.
