About the host
Hosted by Sam and Linda Brown
We love what we do! Over the years, many guests have taken time to write genuinely fond online reviews, as well as heart-warming notes in our guest books, on the cleanliness and comfort of their guest nests, on the deliciousness of their breakfasts, and on the friendliness of their hosts. Our original hospitality business of 15 years was both BnB and Black Hills Home Cabins, with multiple happy expressions by our guests referring to their space as their CABIN. We very much like the excitement about cabins, and so that is what our vacation rental business relocation transition settled into, just on a smaller scale than what we had grown into for those first 15 years with the help of two amusing summer-granddaughters. The girls are grown, no longer our 'little helpers', yet always an important part of our lives. 2024 marks year 2 of the freshly constructed Black Hills Home Cabins at Chokecherry BnB.
We love that our new place is built in the beating heart of this charming mountain town, especially since Hill City is so friendly and brimming with history. And we love the central location in the beautiful Black Hills National Forest. Hill City truly is the HEART of the Hills!
There are so many intriguing choices for recreational direction that we often pause before driving into our adventure and inquire of each otherâWhich way should we go? One of our favorite things to do is to take the scenic drive to Sylvan Lake and hike around the lake, soaking in the beauty from granite vantage points along the way. Another favorite is to take the scenic drive along Mount Rushmore Road and park at Horsethief Lake, where we can begin at the boardwalk for a hike around the lake. Serene, beautiful, enchanting! Often on Sunday afternoons, we will pick a way to go to Custer State Park or perhaps Wind Cave National Park, where we may begin our outing with a nap, then view buffalo and other wildlife, and go for a nature walk.

What makes this property unique
Chokecherry Hideout is the smaller of our two Black Hills Home Cabins, as reflected by the measurements of the space (13'-4" x 11'-4" main room; and 6'-6" x 4'-8" bathroom). To be sure, the overall indoor square footage is small (179 sf), but appointed to create effectively a warm happy coziness. The high sloped ceiling adds visual appeal and space, guiding the eyes to a delightful stained glass fixture and on up to a beautiful ceiling fan. The furniture pieces were selected carefully and placed intentionally for usefulness to guests. The tall log cabinet we considered removing, but it is needed for extra linen storage, as well as the display of antiques which guests may purchase, if desired...a fun amenity. A high deep shelf over the bathroom contributes to visual expansion and is decorated to compliment the outdoorsy rustic theme of the Hideout. Guests do have the option to enjoy the patio with the glider, and the grassy area with the picnic table. The firepit and charcoal grill are also appreciated amenities. So, the space expands to the outdoors conveniently, and two large windows bring the outdoors indoors, so to speak. To balance the size of the interior, the room rate is downsized. We ask potential guests to please review the photos provided with the listing, and we welcome any questions you may have.
