The cabin is well kept and in a beautiful part of the state forest. You feel you are away from it all but you can be in Louisville or at a distillery in about a half hour. We had a great time. Thank you.

Unplug and relax

We didn't turn on a computer or a TV. There's plenty to do around the cabin just interacting with nature. However, within an hours drive there are many things to do. We went to a few distillery tours (reserve well in advance of your trip), Bardstown KY has a large walkable historic downtown (we loved it) and the Bernheim Forest and Arboretum is a must see.

Wonderful Stay at a Peaceful Cabin

Our three days in this historic and peaceful cabin was absolutely wonderful. We were four adults doing a long weekend getaway to visit Louisville (25 min away) and the surrounding area. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed to relax, sleep, and cook meals. We loved the quiet seclusion, screened porch, cozy atmosphere, and fire pit. Sitting outside one night we heard owls, coyotes, and Whippoorwills singing. It was a great place to return to after a busy day visiting the area. Thank you so much for having us!!

This cabin is well worth the drive in. It has just about everything you might need during your stay. Really enjoyed the bonfire on the cool October evenings. Screened in porch is where we ate all out meals and where my husband has his morning coffee. Close to many area attractions. We visited many distilleries and Bernheim forest.

Perfect Retreat for the Whole Family!

My husband and I booked this lovely property with our 3 children (ages 6, 8, and almost 10) and my mom in the middle of an otherwise very busy vacation and it was such a perfect retreat! This home had everything we needed to settle in, explore the creek, enjoy slow meals together, and enjoy the peace and quiet. My kids really enjoyed catching crawfish, watching fireflies and bats, and even spotted some skinks (little lizards). Highly recommend!

About the host

Hello, I'm John, and I want to extend a warm welcome to our cabin, Two Chimneys. This cabin holds a special place in our hearts, as it was lovingly remodeled by my parents, Anne & Hans, back in 2000.

Our family's connection to this place runs deep. Two Chimneys is part of Maplegate Farm, a space that has been a part of our family for generations. My mother, Anne, spent significant time here during World War II. The farm held a comforting embrace during those challenging times. Anne and her brother also started a tree farming operation on Maplegate Farm, a venture that brought them both joy and recognition.

The cabin's name comes from its two chimneys, which have witnessed the passage of time and the stories of our family. There's a rich history here, and we're honored to share it with you.

As you spend time in Two Chimneys, we ask that you treat it with the same care and respect that has been passed down through our family. This cabin isn't just a place to stay; it's a part of our heritage and a reminder of the simple joys in life.

Thank you for considering us for your stay. We're excited to have you here and hope your time at Two Chimneys is filled with tranquility and reflection.

Why they chose this property

You drive up to our cabin over a private dirt road through the picturesque Crooked Creek Valley. The cabin is on 144 acres on private property. You can relax on the front porch and take in the stunning views of the surrounding woods and fields, or take a stroll along the babbling Crooked Creek that runs adjacent to the cabin.

What makes this property unique

Originally built in 1846 as a settler's cabin, the property was lovingly restored and renovated in 2000 while still retaining its rustic charm and character. It features rustic yet comfortable furnishings, including two cozy bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen with a fireplace, and a living room with a wood-burning stove fireplace.

For those looking for a more urban experience, Louisville is just a short drive away, offering a range of world-class restaurants, museums, and entertainment options.
Two Chimneys is the perfect place to unwind and disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Whether you're seeking adventure or simply looking for a peaceful retreat, our cabin offers a unique and unforgettable experience. Book your stay today and discover the beauty of Kentucky's countryside.
