About this property
Waterfront, Private Beach, Peaceful Family Getaway
Experience the Chesapeake from your very own front row seat at Murphy Point on the Chesapeake. Watch dolphins, turtles, sea rays, crabs and gamefish forage for food on one side, and waterfowl prowl the shallow side with a family of otters. Surrounded by water on three sides, the living area is 1300 sq feet with an indoor stair case walk up from the garage/utility area on the ground floor. The layout is open floor plan with kitchen, dining and living room facing the Chesapeake with stunning views out the large atrium doors. For security purposes, there are 5 cameras outside facing the exterior yard and driveway that we deactivate after check in and reactivate day of check out. This property offers a 2nd level wrap around deck with water views on 3 sides and stairs leading to the yard. Fish feed on the surface before your eyes. Cow nosed rays mate in June. Crab or fish from the property. A birder’s paradise—the property is adjacent to marshes, and tidal pools. Regular residents include diving ducks and dabblers, egrets, great blue heron, sea gulls, gannets & terns. Osprey nest within sight and a bald eagle visits late afternoons. Launch our angler kayaks and paddle boards from OUR PRIVATE BOAT RAMP/BEACH in the back yard and paddle to attractions north and south, or fish deeper waters. Take a swim or float in the shallow 4-foot water next to the property, or sit on the deck and watch ships roll down the channel.
Only 30 minutes to Washington DC and Annapolis. Locally it's a short 2 block walk or bike ride to the boardwalk/pier or shops, restaurants, and wine bar. Fine dining just 3 blocks away. Charter boat fishing 2 miles south. Herrington Harbor 4 miles north. Stop by the Bay History Museum and browse the local shops. Walk to the "First Fridays" of the month market where pop up shops, food and drink trucks and antique cars gather. Check out the Saturday morning farmers market for local produce, meats and delicious baked goods, and every 3rd Saturday of the month are free outdoor movies on the 10 ft. high screen on the beach. Into night life? There's bingo, gaming and slots at many establishments within walking distance, as well as live music venues up and down the western shore. Updated free events at the local Nature Center and throughout the town can be found by checking the town calendar at northbeachmd.org/calendar. Plan your vacation now at Murphy Point on the Chesapeake, the envy of North Beach.

About the host
Hosted by Patrick and Annie Murphy
The Murphy Point Family Property was established in 1979. Patrick Murphy and Annie Murphy Roberts carry the legacy from their father, James Michael 'Mike' Murphy. Mike Murphy was an engineer who assisted in the design of the Smithsonian American History Museum and oversaw construction & maintenance of many Smithsonian buildings in DC for over 20 years before retiring at the house in North Beach to conduct oyster research under grants from Univ. of MD and Univ. of NC. During World War II, he worked as a physicist on the Manhattan project at Los Alamos. In 1986, he designed/engineered the building to withstand hurricane force winds with a 12-telephone pole foundation driven 34 feet into the ground. A category 4 hurricane (Isabel) has since passed in 2003 without disturbing the solid construction. He also engineered the tidal pool in the rear of the property to attract wildlife and serve as a boat launch. Patrick Murphy is an avid fisherman and retired health care executive. Annie Murphy Roberts is a health care provider.
Why they chose this property
We chose to keep the property in the family because it is unique among bay properties. There are water views on three sides, it has it's own private harbor, and unmatched proximity to the water. It is also less than 2-hour drive from our primary homes, making it the perfect weekend get-away.
What makes this property unique
The deck overlooks the water. The house has its own protected harbor for small water craft. The close proximity to the water allows you to see breaking schools of fish feeding, dolphins, sea rays, ospreys, egrets or the blue heron residing in the back yard and adjacent marshes. Terrapins & River Otters nest in the beach nature preserve behind the property. Otters fish within sight some days. Recently, there have been many sightings of bottlenose dolphins off the property. And otters began nesting and hunting in the waters around the house. Unlike other houses on the street, you may crab or fish from the property. We have five security cameras outside the house for monitoring between guests. Cameras are paused during guest rentals.
