Area things to do-
There are 109 freshwater lakes in Mason County for you to pick from if fishing is what excites you, or Saltwater fishing on the Puget Sound. Nearby 220 acre Spencer Lake. This lake is perhaps the most popular trout water in Mason County. In addition to trout, Spencer Lake has excellent bass and perch fishing.
Try your luck at the Little Creek Casino (31 min. drive), or enjoy Kneeland Park in downtown Shelton (20 min drive) with its gigantic playground, grassy areas and beautiful picnic shelter. Maybe you would like to experience a little americana and catch a flick at Skyline drive-in movie theater (20 min drive), or take in the Caboose Visitor Center in downtown Shelton.
Theler Wetlands Nature Preserve (in Belfair, 34 min. drive) consists of more than 3 miles of accessible walking trails within 139 acres of protected salt marsh and estuary wetlands.Watch for red-winged blackbirds, kingfishers, herons, Canada geese and other waterfowl. An iconic water wheel that provided electricity to several cabins in the thirties, on the way to visit Staircase Rapids, (62 min. drive) a beautiful little hike inside the Olympic National Park. On the way, drive through Hoodsport, (several interesting stops there), and past scenic Lake Cushman.
