Great location and a central spot for all activities in traverse city and surrounding areas! Beach was a little smaller than expected but overall great stay. We would book again! Amazing hosts!
Our week long stay was wonderful. Marian and Tom were excellent hosts. We loved the location close to Travese City. The rental was very clean. It was nice to have a private beach. We highly recommend it!
We loved everything about our stay! The house was very clean and welcoming. Hosts were great with excellent communication. Plenty to do in the area. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather and got to enjoy some time on the lake as well. Would definitely stay again!

Cons: no washer and dryer.
Would definitely rent again.

Perfect Weekend Getaway!
This property was exactly what my wife and I needed to get away from the busyness of life for a weekend. We had a great time walking on the sand along the waterfront and chillin' in the hammock. The facilities were very nice and there was plenty of space for us to unwind and relax. Seeing how this property is so close to Traverse City, it is the perfect retreat to unwind and still have easy access to city life. The owners Tom and Marian are also delightful hosts; they are very kind and personable. I highly recommend this property!

Beautiful cottage on quiet lake!
We had a lovely time at this beautiful cottage on a quiet lake near Traverse City. The cottage is near enough to Traverse City, Mission Peninsula, and Sleeping Bear Dunes to enjoy all they have to offer with a quiet respite at the end of the day. The owners, Tom and Marian, are friendly and responsive to questions. The house had everything we needed and was comfortable and spacious enough for the 4 of us. The paddleboards and kayaks added to the fun! I would stay here again!

We had a great time here for 3 days over Labor Day weekend. Marian greeted us and gave me a quick tour and answered any initial questions. The house was clean and roomy. The view of the lake from multiple rooms was great along with a veranda overlooking the lake. Beds were comfortable and kitchen was great. The drive to DT Traverse City was only about 10 minutes. This was a great location to hit TC and the peninsula. I would definitely rent again if we come back up this way.

Glad you enjoyed the cottage!
House was very clean and the property was beautiful. Clear lake, nice sandy beach. Owners were extremely nice and helpful. Great location to Traverse City, Sleeping Bear Dunes, etc. 6 adults and a 1 year old fit perfectly in the house. The door between the kitchen and sleeping area was a definite bonus to help keep noise at bay for the sleeping baby. We were able to take lots of day trips and explore the area (hiking, wineries, shopping). Went to Leelanau State Park and passed many cute towns on the way (Sutton’s Bay, Northport) and also visited Glen Arbor, which was another great little town. Use of the kayaks and stand up paddle board were great, and the rope swings on the tree were fun. Beautiful porch to sip your morning coffee on and watch the sunrise over the lake, or relax and enjoy a glass of wine in the evening. Loved our stay!
Great property! Very clean cottage in an outstanding location. On a lake but so close to all that Traverse City has to offer. Owners were very pleasant and allowed us to bring our jet skis. Kayaks, SUPs and fire pits available to share, along with a nice beach. Only drawback was no washer and dryer, but just bring extra clothes, so not a big deal. Great experience. Would stay again.
Marian and Maple Grove Cottage was a cute cottage on Silver Lake - about 10-15 min to downtown Traverse City. We were a party of 2 adults, 4 young adults and 1 teen. The cottage was clean and we appreciated the updated furniture with USB ports and WiFi. Also very nice to be able to use our Netflix and Hulu accounts on the living room TV. We spent most of our time outside - swimming, fishing off the dock or using the kayaks and paddle boards provided. It was a little of a Bed and Breakfast feel as the owners live Nextdoor and there is another cottage you share the beach and amenities with. This was a very friendly -family oriented place which was perfect for us. Marian was an excellent communicator and Tom even had to rescue us when our rented boat ran out of gas! How great was that!
Thank you for allowing us a getaway during the COVID situation :)
Overall pleased with the property. One of our party has difficulty walking and the narrow path, steps and drizzly rain made for a less than ideal situation.

Thanks Don for your review. I am glad you were pleased with the property. I remember the all weekend rain you had. We feel bad for our guests who have that type of weather. A little confused about the comment about the path and steps. The 3 steps to the cottage from the parking area and the short side walk to the cottage are standard to code including the width. I am sorry it was difficult for the person in your party. I didn't realize it was an issue. We could have had you use the other parking area. Again, sorry you had to deal with the wet weather and access.
Thank you Beth for your feedback. We are happy you enjoyed Maple Grove.

Aaaaaaaah, yes!
I rented this lovely cottage based on the owner's description and one review, then held my breath. Well, not to worry, the cottage is as described. It is very clean, updated, nicely decorated, and quiet. Yes, the owners are next door, but are very respectful of renters' privacy, yet available if you need something. There are two cottages total that share the lake frontage with the owners. Owner Marian has taken great care (and a lot of work!) to create lovely gardens with a hint of whimsy. We had all the amenities we needed for preparing most meals in. The three bedrooms and one of the two baths are off the kitchen, separated by a door from the living areas, so if you are early to bed or early to rise, the quiet is a nice surprise. :) We were only four miles from the local Meijer and about 10-15 minutes from downtown Traverse City. So, we had the beauty and quiet of the lake, with the conveniences of downtown nearby.
We stayed for two weeks: week one with friends to explore the many wineries, and week two with family, including a four-year-old, who absolutely loved the sandy beach and water.
In addition to wineries, we explored Sleeping Bear Dunes, Pierce Stocking Drive, Glen Arbor, Leleand, the Art Park at Crystal Mountain, and the Dennos museum. We truly enjoyed our stay, and hope to return. . .the sooner the better!

Can't wait to go back!
I was somewhat hesitate to rent the Maple Grove Cottage, because it didn't have any reviews yet, which made me a little uncomfortable, although I think I understand why now; everyone wants to keep this little gem their secret!
Prior to arriving, Marian was very helpful in answering all the many questions I had, and gave us a lot of tips and suggestions. She always answered my e-mail inquiries in a very pleasant and timely fashion!
On arrival, upon opening the door I knew we had made the right decision! The fresh clean smell of the cottage was very inviting to a germaphobe as myself! The cottage is just as it appears in the pictures and is very clean!
Something we noticed, that is usually lacking in other rentals, is that the cottage was very soundproof! We couldn't hear the other couple in their room, even though we were right next to each other! That applied to the whole cottage, bathrooms included. Solid construction! Basically, the entire property is quiet, the few neighbors including the Brady's are all very quiet and respectful of each other.
Lastly, we just loved Marian and her husband... "Tom Brady"! lol They were so accommodating and helpful and very pleasant to chat with! I even left some items behind, and Marian shipped them back to me within 3 days of my calling her! can't wait to return to Maple Grove, it is one of our new favorite vacation spots!

About the host
Hosted by Marian
My husband, Tom and I were married in 1979. We moved to Traverse City in 1980 from the city of Detroit. My mother was raised on an local farm. My maternal great grandparents were pioneers to the area. My mother moved away when she was a young adult. I developed my love for the area as a young child as we vacationed every year in Traverse City. Tom and I honeymooned in Traverse City and moved there 9 months later. We raised our 5 children in Traverse City. We discovered and purchased our small resort in 1989. It was a diamond in the rough, but it had a great private sandy beach and was in close to Traverse City. We remodeled the cottages as we raised our 5 children. We worked on the cottages as a family. Over the years, our children have learned many skills and developed a great work ethic as everyone helped over the years.
Why they chose this property
Our small 2 cottage resort offers one of the best frontages on Silver Lake. The cottages are off set from each other. Maple Grove sits back about 100 ft. from the beach with a lawn between the house and the beach. The view of the lake is unobstructed. The Willow is 10 feet from the beach on the northern part of the 70 ft. of frontage. The cottages are close to town but far enough away to leave the hubbub on the city behind.
What makes this property unique
- Our own home is located on the property. We have owned and managed the 2 cottages since 1989. We strive to provide a peaceful and enjoyable experience for our guests. We take great pride in providing clean/comfortable/updated homes that our guests will call home during their stay. You will be able to relax and enjoy your vacation as we are very available for assistance as we are here to help. -We have an additional 30 ft. of lake frontage for our personal use. We have our seaplane docked there. -We are available for sight-seeing advice, golf courses, nature areas and restaurant recommendations. We have maps of nearby bike, walking trails, winery/brewery brochures and places only the locals know where to go and see.
