Gumbo Bungalow

Impeccably maintained & stocked with all the perks. This home sits on a large corner lot (130' x 105') adjacent to a 50' easement which offers great views & access to both Gulf & Sound. There is a sidewalk & boardwalk that deliver you the very short distance (approx. 100') to the emerald waters & sugary white sand of the Gulf.

Please note that the two levels of the home are not accessible with an interior stariway. You will find exterior stairways in both the front yard (driveway) and backyard (pool area) with doorways and easy access.
This setup does not work for all family dynamics, but we love it as it provides a separation of spaces, and places to escape, during a long comingling week at the beach.

The gathering area provides vinyl plank flooring, granite counters, plantation shutters, vaulted ceiling & a large flatscreen wall mount television. There is meal seating for 15 including both dining table & breakfast bar.

Stepping through the french doors from the family room onto the large balcony outside you are immediately wowed by the main attraction of this home. The large gunite saltwater pool allows enjoyment for all ages. There is a spacious 1' landing perfect for the toddles to play, two in pool staircases providing easy entry, bench seating as well as the swim-up bar provides multiple seating areas. Jump out of the pool and enjoy a game of volleyball or badminton on the grass court, or try your hand at horseshoes. Sunbathe on the pool deck, gaze out at the ocean views from the upper deck, or take shelter from the sun on the lower shaded patio which is great for hiding from the sun and playing in the sand with bucket and shovel in hand. This is also the spot to fire up the charcoal grill for the family cookout, which is adjacent to the homes additional recreation space with ping pong table.

The upstairs and pool area were fantastic, which made the rest of the experience very disappointing. The downstairs was unacceptable — there was visible mold and roaches, making it unlivable. Because of this, half of our group had to book a hotel room.We contacted the owner about these issues. He later stated that he did receive the message the day before, but there was no response at the time and no offer of compensation.The following day, we also had no hot water. We were told someone would arrive to fix it by 5 PM, but we were in town for a wedding and all 13 of us needed to shower and be ready by 4 PM.Due to the condition of the property, lack of timely communication, and no compensation offered, this stay did not meet expectations.

House was good needs some tlc and security gate for pool we had small children and a gate on deck would have been great. Housekeeping could improve but not terrible needs maintenance repairs on small items but nothing that hindered our stay. There’s not much to do in the area so if you are looking for activities this area doesn’t offer much

Gumbo Bungalow was fantastic - exactly what my family needed for Christmas!

Three days of family fun - definitely not enough time! Gumbo Bungalow was clean, comfy, and cozy and we hope to stay there again soon!

The house worked well for our family. Eight adults and four kids. The pool design is fantastic. Easy access to the beach. The beach is great! The downstairs rooms are not as nice as the upstairs rooms, but hey when you’re accommodating a lot of people and kids, it’s fine. Appreciated greatly the pool toys and beach toys and chairs as we arrived by airplane. Towels provided are great. Beds are good.

Best Christmas Ever

We loved our stay at the Gumbo Bungalow!Super easy to check in, lots of great things to do in the area.So close to the beach and plenty of amenities to make our stay comfortable. Even included everything we needed for our 1 year old grandson.The pool was fabulous, our grandchildren and young adults alike swam every day.

The kids loved the pool, once I got it cooled down. It’s directly in the sun and has to have some kind of shade sail and fountains to cool it down. Very inexpensive to to install, This allowed us to enjoy the big pool with all of the kids. Great location, right on the sidewalk to the beach and all of our family members, that we’re staying at the fancy houses on the beach front. We loved the vibe. Needs a through deep cleaning, not a deal breaker. Great memories were made.

My family and I stayed August 2025. The house upstairs was wonderful. There were plenty of pots and pans and a coffee pot. The place was lovely. There were chairs and items to use for the beach downstairs under the covered area. The downstairs did have a bug spray smell when we got there and it finally did go away. I believe the downstairs does need another humidifier in the other room as well but my older kids/family did enjoy it. The Pool area was the BEST. We utilized it every day. When we weren't at the beach we were in the pool. You just walked out the gate and went right and straight on the path to the beach. It was great. I loved sitting out on the deck in the morning with my coffee and taking it all in. It was a Wonderful trip. Stephanie was the BEST host. She got back to me every time I had a question. Couldn't have asked for a Better Place to Stay.

Graduation Weekend

We had a great family weekend for UWF graduation. The pool was a highlight for the kiddos and very nicely heated to allow for cold weather swimming! Downstairs did need some airing out due to misty smell but did not affect the trip or ability to sleep. I would definitely stay again!

Highly recommend booking a stay at this beautiful home! It was perfect for our family, 6 adults ages 19-42, children ages 17, 7 and 2 toddlers under age 2. The pack-n-play and high chair were of great help with the littles. There was plenty of space for everyone to have their privacy. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed. There were also plenty of beach towels for all of us. The washer and dryer worked great throughout the week which was very nice as a couple of us flew into Florida and packed light. There were many pool/beach toys for the kids. The adults enjoyed the Cornhole boards, pool volleyball and pool basketball as well as all the outdoor seatings areas. The beach is only a very short walk from house, was clean and not crowded, which was very nice. We made a stop at a thrift store on our way in and found some beach chairs, a cooler and an umbrella in excellent condition. I just can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay at the Gumbo Bungalow. Stephany was very responsive and easy to communicate with. I can only hope we have the opportunity to return for another stay!

Gumbo House Review July 2025

The house has a great location and a decent pool. The house had not been cleaned properly when we arrived. In general the house is rundown. The area outside under the decking was dirty as well. There were a lot of bugs. The owner did call in an exterminator which did help. The owner did call in repairment to fix a plumbing leak and the HVAC failure. I would never rent this place again.

Why they chose this property

Gumbo Bungalow is the perfect mix of Beach Life and quiet neighborhood that is simply hard to find along the Gulf of Mexico and it's amazing beaches. No busy hotel or hi-rise condo traffic along this stretch of beach. And Gumbo Bungalow is adjacent to a public easement allowing such easy access directly to the beach and over the sand dune that isn't found many places along Pensacola Beach.

What makes this property unique

An amazing backyard of family activities for those of all ages. A large gunite saltwater pool with toddler area, bench seating along the edges and the same depth at both ends provides the perfect opportunity for a game of volleyball the entire family can enjoy. The horseshoes alley as well as a grass Volleyball/Badminton court provide entertainment for the teens. There are decks to lounge and view the ocean, those around the pool for basking in the sun, and a lower patio for the ages who wish to hide from those bright Florida rays. On the patio is a recreation area with Ping Pong table and a variety of sand and pool toys. You will be amazed at how often you actually forget to make that easy jaunt to the beach because of all the fun to be had at the house. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT CHARGE EXTRA TO HEAT THE POOL, BUT WE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO HEAT THE POOL DURING JANUARY & FEBRUARY.
