Caddo River Shack - 2 secluded acres with Kayaks and outdoor tub - Pet Friendly
Enjoy a park-like and secluded 2 acres on the Caddo River with over 1/4 mile of river frontage. This clean, comfortable, simple "Shack" sits close to the water with free kayaks for guests to enjoy during their stay. Watch the river and deer from the screened porch, kayak up and downstream from the property, swim in the 8-foot-deep swimming area or wade in the shallows. Sit around the fire as owls call out and eagles and osprey soar through the valley. Bathe in the outdoor tub on the screened porch!
The shack is comfortable, clean, and full of simple amenities, but it is not a luxurious accommodation. There is only one bed, so the shack is not suitable for families or groups. It's a great romantic spot for a couple or the lone-traveler seeking a beautiful and semi-secluded spot on the river. So, shack up at the River Shack for a few nights and discover how Shacktastic this spot on the Caddo River really is!
The Caddo River is a popular kayaking and tubing river in Arkansas. In the summer, you will enjoy watching groups of people float past in the afternoon! It gets especially busy on weekends and holidays in the summer. However, weekdays and off-season days are much quieter. From October to March, you will rarely see anyone else on the river and can enjoy the water by yourselves. March through May is mostly just weekend floaters.
Additional notes on seclusion: This is the only rental on the 2-acre property. There are only two neighbors in the area, and they are separated by a lot of trees so your part of the river will feel secluded and private. There is a clean ranch across the paved road that hosts beautiful Brahmas. There is no development across the river giving you more shoreline and woods to explore. You may hear a lumber processing plant across the river in the distance through the trees and occasionally kayakers will treat you to their favorite tunes as they float by. The river is usually very quiet, allowing you to be alone on the water most days between September and May. However, weekends, holidays, and warm summer days sometimes bring a lot of tubers and kayakers to the water during the day. It's usually quiet again in the evenings even on summer days.
Location: The Shack is only 2 miles from Glenwood on a paved road. In Glenwood are restaurants, a grocery store, and pharmacies.
Cell service: We are thankful to have good cell service on the property although some carriers are not great inside the shack.

We really enjoyed our stay. The cabin is clean, cozy and had everything we needed. We loved being right on the river. We can’t wait to come back again.
Beautiful home! Had a great time and we appreciated the comedic relief throughout the home! We also enjoyed watching some throwback VHS movies. The host was super nice and quick to respond when needed.
This is a great place. The shack is cozy and in the perfect spot to soak in all the good things. The outdoor tub qas so relaxing after hiking and kayaking around the river.
Liked: Cleanliness, amenities, property conditions & facilities, communication
Owner provided lots of great info before arrival. Easy check-in. Truly a special place on the Caddo. Great location. Wish we had more time. Love watching the lighting bugs at night. Cabin had everything you could need. Loved everything about our stay.
Everything was wonderful! It was very relaxing and quiet. The only suggestion I have is more games! It was so fun to have games and cards available, but more variety would really improve the experience :) Thank you for everything!
Had bad weather for a couple days and the owner communicated with me about when the power would be turned back on which didn’t matter cuz we were exploring Mt. Ida but still nice of him to let us know. The shack is very cozy and access to the river is nice. The water is shallow enough to relax and can get a little deep as you venture away from the cabin down stream.
We had an amazing stay. The cabin is very well appointed in a quiet location. Not too far from the grocery and some restaurants, yet private. The river is crystal clear and cool, perfect for soaking sore muscles after a hike or rock hunting. Central location: half an hour to Crater of Diamonds to the south, or to Crystal mines near Mt. Ida. Kayaks and floats on site with a sloped ramp to the river. Rocky beach across the river for rockhounding. We’ll be back!!
This was the best rental I’ve ever stayed in purely from a comfort point of view. The host thought about every little thing you could possibly need, provided it and wrote a funny little sign to accompany. The kitchen was FULLY stocked, you could 100% comfortably do a long term stay here. We loved the doggy wash station on the deck, because it had a hot water tap us humans used it in addition to our pup to rinse off after swimming. A highlight was the antique tub on the porch, nothing like a bath with a view. Todd was quick to respond to all my messages and was super helpful to all my questions about the area. You can tell they love the shack and they love hosting. Thanks again Todd!!
This is a perfect area. We really enjoyed staying at this location. The only concern was that it could have been cleaner. There was a pan full of bacon grease and the ceiling fan had alot of dust. Could have used some mixing bowls and a colander. Other then that it was perfect. I would go back and stay longer.

We're very happy that you enjoyed your stay at The Shack despite a couple improvements we need to make. We like your suggestion of adding some mixing bowls and a colander to improve the kitchen. As for the pan of bacon grease... yikes! That shouldn't have happened. We'll figure that out and try to improve the cleanliness for all future guests!
My husband and I and our two Border Collies stayed at "The Shack" for 4 glorious nights, our first time to Arkansas (a hidden gem!), and our 2nd time to see the Total Solar Eclipse on the Line of Totality! Clean and comfortable cabin right on the beautiful Caddo River, along a quiet rural road that I enjoyed jogging along each morning. Great place for a couple and their dog(s) to get away and relax and enjoy nature. The cabin had plenty of cooking and grilling supplies, a comfy bed with a river view, a nice shower, two cozy recliners, two kayaks, a gigantic firepit with chairs, a sandy beach area on the river, and a secluded wooded two acres to roam with a creek running through it. The weather cooperated with perfectly clear skies to view the awesome eclipse right from the yard, making for a truly amazing trip. I highly recommend The Shack on the Caddo!
My husband and I spent 4 days enjoying our time here in this perfect little getaway. We used the provided kayaks and tubes to spend lots of time on the river. Accessing the river from the property is easy and you have a beautiful view of the river from anywhere on the property which was obviously our favorite part. We also enjoyed walking around the well maintained property, sitting on the wonderful screened in porch, listening to the rain on the metal roof, watching some of the dvds while we ate dinner from some great local places, and giggling at the notes left from the humorous owner. We walked across the river and upstream about 2 minutes before reaching Luckys and we rented tubes and spent the afternoon floating the river. They bring you back via bus and the best part was getting back in the river and floating down with our empty ice chest and just hoping out at our stop. My husband spent some time fishing and catching a few, while we had my tube tied off to a tree near by, and enjoying talking to the people coming down the river. This is the perfect secluded spot on the Caddo River. Highly recommend and we can’t wait to come back!
It was so nice and peaceful.. wasn’t get there and the property owner was wonderful.. we really had a great stay

Hi. This guest did not leave a comment so we wanted to share a little more context. The Shack is a pet friendly cabin. This guest told us that they loved the location and wanted to return but they found some fur on the floor under the bed. Although The Shack is cleaned thoroughly between guests, we clearly missed a spot before this guest and will do better. We hope you will enjoy the Shack if you are looking for a cozy, simple, pet-friendly cabin right on the river. Thanks!
Todd and his wife are both Geologists who love traveling and being outdoors. We enjoy hosting guests because it allows other people to enjoy the places we love when we can't be there ourselves. We don't bother our guests in person unless they need something, but we enjoy getting to know people from all around the US and beyond!
Why they chose this property
The little cabin sits on 2 very pretty acres next to the Caddo River. We think it's one of the prettiest spots on the river with great access to both shallow water and deep swimming areas. Across the paved road is a beautiful Brahma cattle ranch. Watch the sun set over the mountain behind the ranch. Upstream and downstream of the cabin are very nice, quiet neighbors who you'll probably never see. Across the river is just trees, but you will hear a tree/lumber processing factory in the distance.
What makes this property unique
The little cabin that we call The Shack is the type of place we enjoyed on our honeymoon! Although only 2 miles from town, it feels more secluded than most rentals since you can't easily see any neighboring homes through the trees. Set on the Caddo River, you will enjoy a variety of people floating by on summer days. After Labor day and before May, the river will be empty of other people most of the time.
