Before You Book… Just a Few Things to Know About Lazy Oaks Resort-
We like to keep it real around here, so we’ve put together a few friendly disclaimers to help set expectations. Lazy Oaks Resort is a special place — rustic, beautiful, and full of character — but it’s not for everyone.
Yes, it’s beautiful here. Yes, it’s peaceful. But let’s be honest — when you stay this close to the lake and woods, you're signing up for a front-row seat to the wild side of the White Mountains. That includes bugs (despite our constant spraying), bats (they eat the bugs, so technically they’re staff), mice (adorable freeloaders), geese (loud and entitled), badgers (surprisingly bold), and yes... occasionally, bears (they were here first).
Now, don’t panic — actual wildlife encounters are rare. Most critters keep to themselves, especially if you don’t leave snacks out like it’s a buffet for the forest. But still — if the idea of a spider ruins your weekend, this might not be your dream getaway.
Pet owners, listen up: we love animals — yours, ours, and the wild ones that roam the area. But please keep your furry friends leashed and in your sight at all times. This is real nature, not a fenced-in dog park. Wildlife doesn't care how sweet your pup is, and we'd like to avoid any awkward encounters that end in vet visits or dramatic stories.
About the internet... Yes, we have Wi-Fi, and yes, it usually works pretty well — we’re talking about 90%-95% success, which earns a gold star up here in the mountains. But it’s not perfect. Our Smart TVs run on that same connection, so they may occasionally get “dumber” than advertised.
More importantly — you didn’t come all this way to watch reruns of your favorite show. You came for fresh air, starry skies, and that glorious lake just outside your door. We’ve got boats, fishing, hiking trails, and enough sunshine to completely reset your mood. So shut the laptop, drop the remote, and go make a real memory — the kind that doesn’t need Wi-Fi.
A few more things to know… Lazy Oaks is home to 18 rustic cabins tucked into about 4 acres of private lakefront property. Yes, you’ll have neighbors. Yes, you’ll share grills and boats. And yes — that’s part of the charm. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself around a campfire, swapping stories, sharing snacks, and making new friends with people you never expected to meet. It’s a social kind of place — in the best way possible.
And those cabins? Many date back to the 1930s–1950s. They’re clean, cozy, and full of charm you just can’t fake — the kind that creaks a little and tells stories in its sleep. We’re gently updating them over time, keeping the best of the old while making space for the comforts of the new. If you appreciate character with your comfort, you’re going to love it here.
If you're looking for ultra-modern, sterile, and silent... well, we hear Scottsdale’s nice. But if you’re ready for a lakeside escape with soul — we’ve got a cabin waiting for you.
The bottom line? 100% of guests who arrive with the right expectations have a wonderful time — and hundreds return year after year. Lazy Oaks isn’t just a place to stay. It’s a place to slow down, reconnect, and soak in something real. We just want you to know what we’re all about — and if that sounds like your kind of getaway, we can’t wait to host you.
Just a heads-up: We do ask all guests to sign a short rental agreement before arrival. We didn’t want to go all “legal,” but our lawyers insisted — especially since we’re right on the lake, welcome pets, and offer use of boats. Thanks for understanding!

The cabin was nice. Very rustic but what we expected. The only disappointment was the lack of area to sit next to the lake. There were only 4 or 5 chairs provided and they were always taken. Private properties all along the lake so we couldn't walk around it. Otherwise, it was very quiet and peaceful.
The lights in the kitchen were very dim. It made it hard to cook and clean the dishes. The back yard could have been cleaned up. We did love how close we were to the lake. It is beautiful. If you are looking for rustic, you found it.
This cabin is a lovely place to stay. The furniture is mostly comfy (except for the back patio, which was covered in gross leaves and spider webs that we brushed off). There was a strong bug spray smell when we first got there, but after airing the place out, it didn't smell anymore. There was a black widow inside that my husband had to kill (probably why they had sprayed), but we knew there was a possibility of spiders from the ad. It isn't exactly on the lake where you can see it from inside the cabin, but from outside, you can see part of it. My husband and I mostly enjoyed the cooler temps of mid-70s and the comfy furniture inside. I would go back in the future, at least to the resort, but maybe to a different cabin closer to the lake.
I was just a bit disappointed that when asked to rent the Patoon boat for Saturday I was told that it had been booked all day but it never left the dock all day.
Last minute trip, overall alright experience. The cabin’s floors were sagging, TV didn’t work, and everything was super outdated. Laminate floors etc. Close to lake and very quite were the only plus’s

Blue spruce cabin
The property is nice and was expected. But the cabin is in terrible need of repairs. The kitchen floor is sagging terribly. The gas oven has a broken electric vent and I believe that could be a hazard. Both bathroom doors do not close. Spider webs in the kitchen.

very nice and quiet...the outside3 property could be cleaned up some especially near the lake...the charges were a bit deceptive.. when I reserved on line..it stated that the charge was final and then when I paid ,a cleaning charge and a use fee was added...adding another 100.00. I was very unhappy about that...
No firewood to burn and when you call management about it, they could care less the rooms were old and deteriorating the furnace went out. We called about it, but they didn’t care either. We’ll never go back.

It was dirty, overpriced, pictures made it look better than it was. TV remote did not work, we had to call maintenance man to replace remote. TV wifi was turned off before it was time for us to leave. Received a text the morning we were to leave threatening us about leaving the place clean or we would be charged more. The place was already dirty, not well maintained.

Beautiful Property
Beautiful property however I will not go back. Our cabin was not quite what we expected. We were the only cabin on the property that did not have AC which was not mentioned in any of the descriptions. There was only 1 fan for the entire cabin so we had to move it from room to room as needed. Also we were to have our own BBQ grill and we did not. The communication with the property manager was lacking. We asked a couple of questions via text with no response also the office doesnt open until 9 am which is not helpful when trying to plan your day.
This property is one of many small cabins with a shared outdoor space. It’s located at the back of the property close to the entrance. You can see the lake from the outdoor back patio and it’s a short walk to the lake. There is a front desk with unposted hours but there is an area with supplies that is accessible when the front desk is closed. Everything is really old and the cabin was drafty. It is heated by electric wall and free standing units that work well. There isn’t any private outdoor space and the cabins are quite close to each other. The space was clean. There were mouse traps and the pull out cutting board had a substantial amount of mouse poop on it. It is understandable to have mice in a cabin like that but it was a little icky. We had a great time on the trip. It was especially nice to have a fenced in space for my dog.
Location is beautiful. Cabins are rustic, but nice.. Property was kept up. It was exactly what we were looking for..
