Lakefront Retreat
This was one of our favorite properties we have stayed at in recent history. It was located on the shore of Squantz Pond in a quiet neighborhood. The property is well-maintained, and we found it to be very well-appointed for our needs. Plenty of extra blankets, towels, spices, and various kitchen stuff. Check in was easy and communication was good with the host. Check out was also super-simple without those incredibly long lists of tasks that some hosts make you perform before leaving. We relaxed by the lake, enjoyed the screened porch and deck, grilled delicious food, and slept soundly in the comfortable beds. Recommended.

Wonderful Getaway Near Where I Grew Up
Lovely property on Squantz Pond. Host was very accommodating and accessible. Even though the weather had a little chill we were able to sit out on dock and fish and enjoy the wonderful view. Spent time hiking the trail on the other side and even though it was strenuous, there was a lot of beauty (rocks, boulders, waterfalls, birds, etc.). Also able to grill and cook for family visits as kitchen was fully stocked. Loved it!!

About the host

Hello! Some of my earliest memories are in the home where you will be staying.! I grew up just outside of New York City, and my dad built the house as a weekend getaway. It is my honor to be the custodian of this magical place. I've spent a lifetime swimming, boating, waterskiing, and hiking in and around the the lake, and look forward to sharing it with you!

Why they chose this property

For over 50 years, I've looked at the magnificent views from the house and from the dock and it never gets old. The lush green of summer, the spectacular colors of fall, and the white snow covered mountains across the lake in winter. Sunsets over the mountain can be breathtaking. And in all that time, the view across the lake remains the same - unspoiled virgin forest, thanks to it's designation at a Connecticut State Preserve.

What makes this property unique

Squantz Pond is separated from the rest of Candlewood Lake by a causeway which does not allow boats in or out. It means we don't see the kind of boat traffic jams common on the mother lake during weekend. It's much quieter, and much more relaxing. The view across the lake of the mountains perfect. And unlike many other Squantz Pond properties, there is no roadway for you to cross to access our lakefront and dock.
