About this property
Amazing and Unique Spacious 3bd in Hyde Park
This remodeled 2-story bungalow in historic Hyde Park has fabulous modern kitchen, treetop master bedroom, Mediterranean-style native plant garden, and screened porch. Green touches throughout. Perfect for two couples, with upstairs and downstairs bedrooms and bathrooms. Ideal location -- easy walking to Hyde Park neighborhood restaurants and shops, or hop on a bus to downtown.
The space
Recent renovation of this 1920s bungalow in historic Hyde Park preserved its soul while adding a see-to-believe upstairs master bathroom and bedroom and modernizing the kitchen and downstairs bathroom. The owners have made this residence eco-friendly inside and out, using reclaimed or recycled materials and installing energy- and water-saving updates including solar panels. The home was featured in the 2014 Hyde Park Homes tour.
The upstairs master bedroom is a haven of calm. Balcony, views to the treetops, queen-size bed, window seat. A cupboard and dresser just for your things and space for hanging items. Bathroom features walk-in shower, glass block, and Mexican tile. This master suite has its own whisper-quiet mini-split AC for comfortable summertime sleeping.
Downstairs bedroom and bedroom/office share a renovated bathroom with shower and clawfoot tub. The downstairs bedrooms have queen-size beds and closet space. There are also two additional twin-size fold out mattress pads (above washing machine/dryer stack in sunroom) available. Living room, dining room, kitchen, and sunroom with coffee bar are furnished with an eclectic mix of antiques, vintage, and artwork.
Like to cook? The remodeled kitchen has new appliances including a 5-burner restaurant-style gas stove. You'll have full use of pots and pans and plenty of staples. The garden has fresh herbs for your use, changing seasonally.
Enter through a Mediterranean-style garden with native plants, stonework and ironwork, and courtyard surrounded by trees and vines. In the back, a woodland garden with patio and tropical plants is shaded by 100-year-old post oaks. The backyard also has a spacious detached screened porch with ceiling fans, sitting area, large dining table, and rustic kitchen. A great place to unwind with a beer or have dinner.
Also available for use are free weights, yoga mats, a foam roller, and tennis rackets. Tennis courts and basketball court are directly across the street at Shipe Park. Austin is a mecca for runners, climbers, cyclists, swimmers, and rowers .... Ask your hosts for tips if you'd like more info.
High speed internet (GFiber) at your fingertips, and a smart TV is available for streaming from your subscription services (e.g. Netflex, HBO, etc.). There is no cable TV.
Parking for one car in driveway in front of house. Street parking is plentiful and unrestricted. Avenue G is now a "Healthy Street", which means minimal traffic and plenty of space for walking, biking, etc.
Owner is licensed with the City of Austin for short-term rental operation. Owner's charge includes the 11% occupancy fee required for City lodging taxes.
