Idyllic spot for our four generation family retreat!
We thoroughly enjoyed our family retreat to the North River Farmhouse.over the Labor day holiday! The farmhouse has been thoughtfully appointed with families in mind: from the comfortable beds and beautifully decorated gathering spaces to the ample 3 acre grounds with water views all around, this is now our family’s favorite Chesapeake Bay hideaway. The water front private pool, pier, yard games, fire pit, along with indoor games, books and a fully stocked kitchen exceeded all our expectations. We will certainly return as soon as we can.

Great family getaway spot!
The house itself was more spacious than we guessed from the pictures and the yard, pool and river were also fantastic. Made a trip to Colonial Williamsburg, which was great, but besides that, our family wanted to spend the week in the pool, on the dock, playing games and enjoying the property. The place was extremely well stocked and we had tons of things to do on the property. Highly recommend.

Special family gathering
This was the perfect place for my family to gather to celebrate the life of our father/grandfather/great-grandfather. Marsha was a very caring and responsive host during our stay on her lovely property. We especially enjoyed our family meals, time in the pool, catching crabs on the dock, and kayaking on the river.

The Riverhouse has been a welcoming retreat for families to gather and build memories for more than ten years. Making sure the property is always fresh and updated keeps me motivated. After a lifetime of corporate moves and big cities, the Riverhouse on the water is always a complete antidote to everything urban.

Why they chose this property

Mathews / Gloucester Courthouse area is filled with miles of pristine water coastline and friendly owner-run businesses.
Yet you are less than an hour to major airports, world-class museums, golf and theme parks. The abundance of locally available seafood, wine & produce is our favorite part of this area!

What makes this property unique

The North River is the gold coast of the area, lined with historic farms and equestrian properties. Whether you want to fish, sail, kayak, bike, paddleboard or stretch out in a hammock, this is a perfect location.
