About this property

BIG ROCK LOG CABIN , Beside Natural Bridge/Red River Gorge

Nestled under the sandstone bluffs that nature carved out of Rocky Hollow, things are quiet, easy going, and perfect for your holiday away from it all. Here lies Big Rock Log Cabin tucked away in the Kentucky mountains yet only minutes away from Natural Bridge State Park, Red River Gorge and the Daniel Boone National Forest. After a day of fishing, hiking, or rock climbing, Big Rock is a wonderful place to come home to. Relax on a large covered porch complete with comfortable lounge chairs and table. Come ready to grill out on the porch at the gas grill and eat out under the trees at a picnic table nestled up in Big Rock Hollow. Big Rock Log Cabin beckons you to slow down, relax, and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature, all in the comfort of a cozy & well furnished log cabin, or lean back in a lounge chair inside Big Rock’s own rock shelter. Big Rock Cabin is fully furnished with new furniture and antiques, creating a cozy, comfortable feeling. All linens, blankets and towels are furnished so all you need to bring are food, drink, and personal items. Central air and heat will keep you comfortable any time of the year. Don’t want to cook? During the season Big Rock is only 5 minutes away from great pizza, subs, or a full buffet dinner. That’s the nice thing about Big Rock, it’s close to everything, but when you top the ridge and drive down into Rocky Hollow you are suddenly away from it all. Natural Bridge State Park is only 5 minute drive where you can enjoy hiking trails, fishing lake, or dinner in the resort lodge. Five minutes more and you are in the Red River Gorge Geological Area and the Daniel Boone National Forest with it’s forest and mountain trails leading to huge natural stone arches and fantastic views of cliff lined valleys. Pets are allowed. You can even enjoy the trails with your dog in the National Forest. This is a wonderful, undiscovered part of nature where you will see breath taking views without hoards of people. Peaceful

Took our 84 year old parents on a long week end away. The location is perfect to do the driving trip around the gorge. We enjoyed the fireplace anew the outdoor fire ring. The cabin is beautiful. Location is remote but not far from all the sites and activities.

Relaxing Weekend Trip

My wife and I love John's cabin. It is close to everything and private enough to just relax and do nothing. My girls and I love hiking so we try to get at least one to two trails a day. Then come back and relax in this wonderful cabin. Thank you for another perfect trip.

3 day getaway

The house was very nice and clean. Alot of room for the four of us and 1 dog. Very quiet definitely a deep in the Forrest country vibe. We had good wifi but not much cell service. Good location to go hiking, kayaking and other outdoor fun. We had a good bit of rain during our stay. But the covered porch was nice to hang out on during the storms. The only concern we had was the high grass off the side deck down to driveway and up to fire pit. But i guess that come with mountain living Other then that a great stay..

Great and peaceful getaway

The property is a geographical wonder. Love how the house is located beside the rock wall and how they have used the outside to create unique spaces like the fire pit. It's really close to all the activities of RRG. We really enjoyed our time at Big Rock cabin.

Ahhhh!

A perfect refuge. Quiet, secluded but not far from hiking trails, restaurants and shops. The cabin walls are covered in primitive art worthy of a museum. Check in was simple and the cabin was very clean. Comfortable couches and beds. We recommend highly!

Cozy comfortable cabin!

The property was even better than the pictures! We had a great time staying here! Thank you for taking care of the property. We had no complaints. The fire pit under the rock overhang was a definite bonus. Lots of conversation about the eclectic art work throughout the cabin!

Private cabin

We had a great time. Grilled on the deck. Made fires in the ring under the big rock. Went hiking. Played games. All the things families do on an outdoorsy vacation. Outdoorsy but in comfort. Everything in the cabin was in good shape, clean, and well thought out like enough charging options for electronic devices (regular outlets and USB). The cabin is in a very private setting. You can see 2 other cabins if you try hard and there are maybe a handful of cabins down this private little dead end road at the wooded bottom of a gorge. If you’re not used to hills/mountains like us chicagoans, then the last hill down to the cabin may seem a bit daunting. But it’s okay, really. I did find backing into the actual driveway uphill (rather than backing out downhill) a lot easier.

Why they chose this property

Big Rock is only a hour from Lexington yet located in the most beautiful deep woods cliffy wilderness area in Kentucky. I bought Big Rock specifically because it is a Log cabin (a must), was unfinished (so I could finish the inside like I wanted), is under the cliff (my golden retrievers don't know what a cliff edge is), has interesting features on the property (massive block boulders, a rock shelter, and gorilla rock), and lastly is close to Natural Bridge and Red River Gorge (Natural Bridge State Park shares a back property line with Big Rock). Fell head over heels for it the moment I saw it.

What makes this property unique

Log cabin that is cozy, rustic, and inviting. All wood everywhere, not a drop of paint or sheet rock to be found. Nestled under a 40 foot sandstone cliff and flanked by block boulders the size of a house. Just steps from a huge rock shelter (the rock house) and Gorilla Rock. The cabin is full of unique Folk Art from all over rural American as well as from my travels.
