We just love love love Colombiao do Momo. It is the 2nd time we have stayed here (and other family have stayed here as well). The house is beautiful and also very comfortable. It's perfect for a family holiday. The new addition of the pool was fabulous. We love the little village of Montisi. I am sure we will be back for another stay. Thank you Momo !
Great base to explore beautiful Tuscan hilltop villages. Montisi itself is a very interesting village with a festival in August and many activities.
The house also has 3 separate outdoor dining areas and breathtaking views of Tuscan landscapes.

Hello Caterina,
Thank you so much again for having come to il Colombaio and for leaving such a nice review. I hope that your travels went well and that everyone is happily settled back into life in Montreal.
My best to the family.
Cheers,
Michael
Ideal setting for day trips to Siena, Pienza, Montipulciano, etc. Fully equipped kitchen for practicing what you learned in cooking classes. A hidden gem outside a small town that gives you a peek at day-to-day life in the country. Gorgeous setting among the olive trees with views of Mount Amiata. Knowledgeable host who goes out of his way to make you feel you are the most important visitor ever. Have been visiting since 1996 and each visit is better than the last!

Hello David,
Thank you for leaving a review and such a nice one at that!
Cheers,

Stayed for a week with friends and family in mid-May, six of us in total. Beautiful private location on a south facing hill, looking over gorgeous landscape. The house is big and airy, simple and rustic, but with everything you need. Well-equipped kitchen, big bedrooms with plenty of privacy. No TV, good WiFi. Surrounded by beautiful gardens brilliantly maintained by Momo, who is the perfect host. Lots of places to eat outside, watch the sunset and generally chill. Small pool which is great for cooling off. Birds, flowers, olives, stars, magic.
The house and grounds are very nice. The character of the old farmhouse is kept and combined with just enough modernization to make it perfect. The bedrooms are large and comfortable. The bathrooms are modernized with nice fixtures. Plenty of outside sitting and gathering areas. Michael was a pleasure to deal with.
Montisi is a small town, but very nice. Perhaps the most picturesque we saw in all of Tuscany. The locals were very kind. We didn't experience the tourist crowds there that we saw in other towns in the area.
We were very pleased with our choice of this house.
We had an amazing time at Michael’s house in Montisi. The house itself is a well preserved traditional farmhouse with a very well stocked kitchen, which we really appreciated. The town of Montisi has a shop a bar and a few restaurant is a short 10 minute walk away (on private or small roads), which was easy with the 3 toddlers we brought.
Michael was a thoughtful and attentive host, and provided us with contacts for a babysitter and a chef for a few nights our stay (would recommend!). He knows a lot about the local area and was happy to assist with recommendations.
The area is unbelievably beautiful, and the house is situated on a ridge with amazing views of the sunsets over the Tuscan hills. We were close to a few wine making areas, other picturesque towns, and fantastic restaurants (especially Il Conte Matto).
Overall the stay was wonderful and I would highly recommend!
It really feels like you are staying at a friend’s house rather than a rented villa.
Perfectly located for visiting the major Tuscan towns but situated in a real village with few other tourists, easily reached by a stroll through the olive groves.
The house is beautiful; Michael has furnished it with an incredible collection of items from around the world which all complement each other and the house. The kitchen is extremely well equipped; with our love of cooking, this was one of our favourite rooms. We loved the garden and enjoyed having different areas to sit in and enjoy the peace and the amazing views throughout the day. It was hot during our stay but the shutters kept the heat out and it was a joy to come back to the cool villa and pool after outings.
We are planning our return visit! Thank you Michael for a great holiday and for being a wonderful and welcoming host.

Hello Gareth,
Thank you for such a wonderful review! I am truly happy that you enjoyed yourselves and the house. It would be great to see you again in Montisi. I hope that you settled back in ok and are slightly charged up by your vacation.
My best to the two of you,
Michael
Though there were only two of us, the stunning photos, Tuscan location and consistently enamored reviews of this property convinced us to plan a 2 week stay at this large, beautiful home right outside Montisi. We were able to enjoy two perfect weeks in Tuscany because of the great proximity to the tourist highlights but more importantly because of the atmosphere afforded by this amazing villa and it's gardens and countryside location near the small, authentic and untouristed hill town of Montisi. Michael was such a warm and welcoming host who we felt would be a dear friend if only we lived in close proximity to each other. He was always quick to answer any of our inquiries and genuinely loved this home and its neighboring lands where he had enjoyed many years with his family. Communication was simple because English is Michael's first language though he is fluent in Italian and several other languages. It was a very special treat for us to have full access to a wonderful garden full of amazing produce. We can't wait to return!

Hello Sophie,
I just wanted to thank you for having come and for leaving a review. I hope everyone's travels went well. Muriel sent me a nice text saying she was home. Maybe we will see each other again in the future but for now my best to all,

Hello Petra,
I hope that you are all doing well and have adjusted to home after your vacation. I see that you wrote a review and wanted to thank you especially knowing you don't usually like reviewing if I remember correctly. It is still very unusually hot in Italy and we are waiting for cooler weather.
My best to all and thank you again for everything,
Michael
Our stay in Colombiao was a Tuscan delight. This old farmhouse from the 17th century has been lovingly cared for by the current owners. Still true to its Tuscan roots, the house retains its farmhouse charm while maintaining a level of rustic comfort. Kitchen is on one level, dining and living on another, bedrooms on another. No AC, so if staying during hot months, pack light. We were there in early June 2022, temps were unusually hot, in the upper 90s. Mornings and evenings were comfortable, nights were warm, but bedroom fans kept the air moving. Closing shutters and leaving the house to travel around Tuscany during the day made it manageable, and we made good use of the three outdoor terraces. Cooking was kept to a minimum, but the kitchen is very well stocked with sharp knives, plentiful cookware and utensils, and we enjoyed fresh veggies from the garden. The host, Momo, is exceptional. He was extremely helpful in directing our party to restaurants and small wineries to visit in the area. In addition to Montisi, we took day trips to Siena, Montepulciano, Montefollonico, Montalcino, Gaiole in Chianti, and Trequanda. . . . Momo sent us to a great butcher in Trequanda, Marcelleria Ricci, and we enjoyed very good dinners at the local Montisi Ristorante Ritorno di Fiamma. Montisi was a great find, and Colombiao was a Tuscan treat. Would love to visit again in the Fall!!
We just returned from a fantastic stay here. The house is beautiful inside and out.
Inside: The kitchen was clean and inviting to cook meals in. The furnishings and decor were unique and beautiful- full of character. There was plenty of space for us (two couples) to spread out. It would also be comfortable for three couples.
Outside : heavenly!! The views are spectacular. The flowers were everywhere and amazing. Sitting outside in the morning and evening, listening to the birds sing, looking at the view, smelling the flowers…. our favorite thing we did. We always looked forward to returning at the end of the day to make dinner in the kitchen or on the grill and eat at the outdoor table. (There are actually 3 different outdoor eating areas!)
Location: a great spot because it’s in the countryside, yet with the option of walking into town. The walk was on a gravel road surrounded by beautiful olive trees. The town is cute and authentic with a few places to eat. We enjoyed our meal at Ritorno di Fiamma.
It’s about a 30 minute drive to places like Montalcino and Montepulciano , and about 45 minutes to Siena. Getting to and from Montisi is a beautiful drive in itself. There is a great butcher (Ricci) that we really loved in the next town (Trequanda) and a giant and wonderful Supermarket about 15 minutes away in Sinalunga.
The owner: Michael (Momo) is so nice and helpful. He has thought of everything and has the kitchen particularly well stocked. He helped us get several reservations for restaurants and wine tasting, and recommended a cooking teacher (Rafaella), who was wonderful!
This is a house we would love to return to! Thank you, Momo for a great week in Tuscany!
This renovated farmhouse is impeccable furnished and perfectly located for exploring the Tuscan wine country. The villa is a ten minute walk from the charming village of Montisi, where you’ll find few tourists and welcoming locals. Momo, your host, is responsive and knowledgeable. You’ll be enchanted by the sunsets. Enjoy!!
This is my fourth visit to Colombiao di Momo, and as always it was a wonderful stay with friends. The house and gardens were lovely as always, and Momo remains responsive to any queries and extremely helpful. Great location for trips to Pienza, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Siena-- and this time we even went to the coast for a day.

Absolutely perfect
My family and I recently returned from a week at Colombiao di Momo and it exceeded our expectations in every way. First off, the property is stunning: Situated among olive groves on a hillside overlooking the fields and mountains of southern Tuscany. It is extremely well cared for with plenty of room to eat, play, explore etc. Our children enjoyed hours playing outside and in the nearby fields. It's also perfectly located 30 minutes from Montalcino, Montepulciano and Pienza.
As for the house, well -- the pictures don't tell the whole story. It is absolutely fabulous. My 83-year-old mother -- who stayed with us for three days -- was tearing up at the loveliness of it all. It is warm, welcoming, well-stocked and decorated beautifully -- filled with Michael's family heirlooms from travels throughout Morocco, the Middle East and beyond. All told, four of us stayed the entire week, and we were joined for three nights by my brother, his daughter and my mom and everyone had private space: including their own bedrooms and bathrooms. We had plenty of room to spread out and not be on top of each other. In addition, the kitchen was extremely well stocked with all the cooking utensils and instruments you could want -- and Michael gave us a can of his own olive oil from the surrounding fields (along with wine, cheese, salumi and other noshes) at the start of our week -- just an excellent touch.
And that brings me to the host himself. Michael was singularly the best host I've ever had the pleasure of renting from. He clearly cares about his property and his guests' enjoyment. He is full of great recommendations -- including welcoming us to a village-wide lunch on communal tables on the village's Main Street that proved to be the highlight of our week in Tuscany. He's a gem -- and a real bridge into the quiet world of real Tuscan living. As far as we traveled, we always felt at home back in Montisi -- largely thanks to Michael's hospitality. And he was incredibly kind to us last year when we couldn't make the trip due to a medical emergency.
In all, Colombiao di Momo was absolutely perfect, and I can't wait to return again soon.

Classic Tuscan Farmhouse Retreat
After stumbling on Montisi on our first trip to Tuscany over 25 years ago, my wife and I have made the lovely little town our base for 7-8 subsequent trips. By coincidence, we discovered that friends from Boston had been staying at Colombiao for years. We checked it out on a previous trip but our late May 2018 rental was our first, but not the last.
Set on several acres of beautiful olive trees, the property was literally bursting with color from all types of flowers, meticulously maintained by Momo Brubeck, whose parents renovated the abandoned farmhouse almost 50 years age.
Columbaio is very spacious and comfortable, with three large bedrooms, three bathrooms, and two separate sitting areas upstairs. The first floor living room, dining room and kitchen are huge, open and delightfully appointed, and there is a full bathroom as well. The kitchen is great for cooking, and it’s the best equipped one we has ever rented.
The extensive yard has several sitting areas, three options for outdoor dining, and a great spot to enjoy sunsets. The views from all directions show Tuscany at its finest. The very private location is only a few minutes walk thru neighboring farms to town.
Momo Brubeck is a great host. His love for the property is evident in his attention to details that made our stay easy and trouble free.
Colombiao is not going to be featured in fancy design magazines, thank goodness, but it is a fine old farmhouse that has everything necessary for a great Tuscany holiday, and a good value as well.

Perfect spot for a vacation in Tuscany
Colombiao de momo was the ideal place to spend a week in Tuscany. The farm house itself was beautiful both inside and out. The kitchen was stocked with everything you need, the beds are comfortable, and there is plenty of space inside and out for enjoying dinners with a group. Momo was a perfect host and set us up with a driver for the day (highly recommend) and also cooking lessons. The house is a 10 minute walk to Montisi, which is a beautiful little town. We loved our stay at Colombiao de momo!

About the host
Hosted by Michael Brubeck
I am American born and have now been living in Montisi and working here for 14 years and coming here since 1972 when I was five years old. The old podere ( a working farm) was lived in by generations of contadini until two years before my parents bought it in 1972. While restoring the house we wanted to maintain the simplicity and beauty of a historical farmhouse with its hand-hewn doors and manger boards, both keeping and creating a warm and welcoming environment. I still take care of the house and the surrounding olives which I prune in the spring and harvest in the fall making a fantastic olive oil that our area is known for.
Why they chose this property
At Il Colombaio di Momo you will find yourself staying in a house which has been our family home for over forty years. In the restoration of il Colombaio we preserved much of it's character and feel of it's origins. With a comfortable open space living room and an ample garden it is a great place to relax and get to know the village of Montisi with it's restaurants and bars. A small and inviting town you'll feel welcomed and experience a little of what small village life is like. If you come at the right time of year you can participate in our town festival, a jousting competition on horseback and all in medieval costume, white truffle festival, olive oil festival, a newborn film festival and more....
