Sorry - no access to the garage (exceptions - wheel chair guests or pre-arranged gear storage.)
Please note: Guests in the apartment above the garage use the small side yard and the gravel parking pad. This space is visually separated for privacy for both you and our apartment guests.
I am a huge proponent of clear communication and encourage you to reach out with questions or concerns! I am easily reachable by text or phone, and if you need me in person for something, I am usually only an hour or two away.
NEIGHBOURHOOD
The neighborhood is evolving from the original lakeside cabins of yesteryear to modern Craftsman style homes. Geneva maintains a rural-city feel: many families keep small flocks of chickens and the roads have no sidewalks, but downtown Bellingham is a quick eight-minute drive away.
It`s a quiet neighborhood, nestled in tall evergreen trees. Lake Whatcom is a few blocks away - swim, fish and even have a small campfire on the public access beach.
ACTIVITIES & ATTRACTIONS
One of Bellingham`s most remarkable parks, Whatcom Falls Park, is less than a mile away. Visit the impressive waterfalls and walk or bike the miles of interurban trails. Take advantage of the tennis courts, a skatepark and basketball courts. Kids can fish in the stocked pond, and burn off energy at the playground. The nearby elementary school boasts an extravagant playground as well (available during the afternoon and on weekends.)
Do you love Mountain Biking? Galbraith is literally out our front door and boasts world class biking!
Do you love skiing? Mt. Baker is a reasonable 75 minute drive away. Mt. Baker is one of the snowiest ski areas in the nation.
Do you love hiking? There are too many options to list! Many amazing trails are within a few miles of here.
Do you love kayaking? Whale watching? Bellingham`s got it!
WORK REMOTELY
The WiFi here is lightening fast (1 gigabit). If you must work during your visit, work in comfort & privacy in one of two dedicated workspaces.
BONUSES
* Enjoy a selection of bath salts and bath bombs to use in the spa-like jetted tub for two!
* Make your favorite espresso drink using our Breville espresso maker and provided syrups. Take a latte on your adventures in provided thermal mugs!
* We provide a long-burning manufactured fire log for each night of your stay. Please note - NO real wood fires in the indoor fireplace please - wood throws sparks and creates soot stains! (Thanks in advance for following our request - violations will incur a $150 fee.)
* Help yourself to the blueberries and the herbs in our veggie garden.
* Store your bikes safely (or other sports equipment) in a locked shed. We can provide bike tools and a bike stand by request. You can even wash your bike after a muddy ride using the warm outdoor spigot!
THINGS TO NOTE
This is a well-maintained, sparkling clean, `loaded` luxury home, but it is not perfect. The `imperfections` will not interfere with your wonderful stay, but we want you to know about them ahead of time.
* scratches in the cherry wood floor (doggy love)
* chips in paint of trim or baseboard in some areas
* outdoor deck in need of refinishing (scheduled summer 2024)
* four tiles missing from exterior of ensuite tub surround (deliberately removed for jetted tub maintenance)
* perennial beds will have some weeds. I wish they wouldn`t, but they just will. Sigh.
** We continue to make improvements regularly, and these items will be addressed in time. **
Learn more about Bellingham Happenings, as well as what`s new with the house by visiting our social media pages.
Off street parking is provided for 3 cars. Do you plan to bring bikes? Store them safely in the locked shed.
Bellingham: it is an easy drive to downtown - only 8 minutes away.
There are designated bike lanes nearly the entire way.
We are on a bus line which runs straight to the transfer station, from which you can go anywhere in the county.
Our home most comfortably sleeps 7 people. We can accommodate 2 more guests on a [surprisingly] comfortable air mattress set up in the upstairs office. Please realize this is a `makeshift` bedroom, but it might be worth it so your group can stay together! (Additional guests must be arranged in advance, please!)
If there is a member of your group with MOBILITY CONSIDERATIONS, please contact me for details. We are able to set up a comfortable sleeping area on the main floor so stairs can be avoided. The shower on the main floor is barrier-free and the shower/bathroom accommodates a wheelchair. Prior to your arrival, we will install the entry ramp to allow access over the single 7-inch step to the patio. Note: kitchen counters are standard height. Please reach out ... I would like to discuss the set up in advance so you know we are sure to meet your needs!

Hosted by Kjerstin Secord

We appreciate the opportunity to introduce ourselves to you, since you may be a guest in one of our homes.
Jim and Kjerstin met in 2010, and in 2011, Jim and his two kids moved to Bellingham from Canada to start a new chapter with Kjerstin and her three daughters, who at the time, called Lummi Island “home.” Our five children, our dog, our cats and a flock of chickens filled both homes with love, laughs, activity, fur and feathers.
Now, the kids are grown (and flown) and we find ourselves with more space than two people can reasonably use! We are passionate about both Bellingham and Lummi Island and can’t bear to let either place go, so we decided to share them with people traveling to the area.

Why they chose this property
We purchased this home to raise our flock (human and animal.) With the apartment above the garage, we had enough space for everyone. (We also rent the 4-person apartment, called "Hip & Sunny Lake Whatcom Apartment", available on VRBO.)
We had four girls, so having lots of bathrooms was a big bonus! We love that the house/property is on the outskirts of town, so it is quiet and the yards are large. Equally important for us, we can get to downtown Bellingham in only 6-8 minutes.

What makes this property unique
Hands down, what makes our property unique are the designer's and contractor's architectural details and our attention to quality when furnishing/outfitting the home. This is an upscale, well-appointed luxury home.
