Great Beach Getaway

Was great being able to walk to the beach in 2 min and having other parks close for driving to in a short time ( 30 min or less). Got to have a fire in the pit and enjoy our stay

Great location, very dated

The cottage is very old, smelled of stale urine. Kitchen and bath would not accommodate more than 2 adults and one child. Dead of summer would be awesome because all you'd want to do is sleep there.

Nice cottage, better for summer

Based on the listing I was expecting a bit more of a "lake view" than a small sliver past several other cottages. The Family/TV room was a bit dark for day use with the paneling. Overall nice place and, in the summer, the closeness to the beach would be a great feature. in early spring, it was not as useful and the view I was hoping for.

Quaint and quiet

Loved our stay at Savannah sands. We had everything we needed. Loved being so close to walk to lighthouse and beach. Bed very comfy. Saw several deer in the mornings. Enjoyed soaking up the sun in the deck even though it was only about 67 degrees. Wish there were a few restaurants more local. And that the wifi was a bit amped up. But if we were there in the summer-- there prob would have been eats galore and no need for wifi! Thanks for a perfect romantic weekend!

A chance to breathe

The weather was beautiful despite it being late October. The beach is just a short walk away. The wind was wonderful, “Stan the Stag” surprised us on a hike and the lake covered us in her cold spray walking on the pier. It was cozy, comfy and just the right size for the two of us!

Great location. Cute cottage. Not very clean. Shag carpeting in a beach house doesn’t work out .

Not kept up very well. Bathroom sink would not drain. I fixed it myself. Some of the pots and pans we dirty. Bed mattress’s are old and worn out. Dirty shag carpeting in the bedrooms. Kitchen faucet is loose and moves around when you use it.One of the smoke alarms did not work properly. Only one burner out of three worked properly on the bbq.Outside trash cans where full from previous renters.

Pleasant cottage/great location

Pleasant cottage with a delightful deck and Sandy, private yard with fire pit. Lovely to sit outdoors and eat, relax and listen to the sounds of nature, and have a fire at night. Loved being able to walk to the beach whenever we wanted. Went there multiple times including every night for the beautiful sunsets.

Cozy cottage

The cottage is nicely taken care of and we enjoyed that some originality has been saved. The location to beach and trails for our family and dogs was great! Well supplied with essentials and very clean. The sun porch made me smile with memories of my grandparents sunporch including liliacs! It would be even better if the mattress was replaced yet we would definitely rent again.

Perfect little cottage

Cute little cottage just steps away from Lake Michigan. It had everything we needed from games and books to the awesome deck (where we spent most of the time). Very clean and cozy. Owners very friendly and helpful. We’re planning our next trip

Cozy cottage a short walk from Lake Michigan

Overall this was a great property for a getaway to Lake Michigan! It's an older cozy cottage and I highly recommend it. Everything was clean and well stocked. A very short walk to a beautiful beach and park. There are only a couple of things to be aware of. The shower is quite small but manageable. I'm 6' 3" so it was pretty tight. The other thing is that the driveway is a very steep descent to the house. Not an issue in the summer but my visit was in the winter and if there had been an ice storm this would have been a problem.

Perfect CHRISTmas beach get away

Very cozy beach cottage that had everything needed to cook CHRISTmas eve dinner for the family. Very quiet and set back on a dead end road. We even had 12 deer show up CHRISTmas night at the end of the road. Owners thought of everything including a snow shovel for the surprise snow storm that came in.

Loved staying at the Cozy Cottage

I went to MI for the first time in October for a wedding. My husband , myself and our 2 kids with a small dog stayed at the Cozy Cottage and it was perfect for our family! I can’t wait to go back during summertime so we can take advantage of its proximity to the beach!

Relaxing place by the beach

We stayed next door last year and this place was just as good. Weather wasn’t cooperating as much this time around but we made do going on multiple hikes and rented bikes to ride along the 12 mile bike path with our 6 year old. This cottage is perfect for a small family with young kids.

Frustrating and disappointing

Arriving around 4 p.m. on Feb. 9 for three nights, there appeared to be about a foot of snow on the driveway, plus what had been left at top of driveway when street was plowed. Sat in my car on the street, called owner, left voice message, asked what the plowing plan was. I then called the property manager, who said to park on the street, walk down, and go on into cottage. However, the owner’s instructions said to not park on the street during winter. I told property manager it was dangerous to wade through a foot of snow on the steep, unfamiliar driveway, and I was not going to do that, especially while carrying luggage, etc. She said she would text the owner. More than half an hour later, I left another voice message, telling owner I was moving on to other accommodations, and that I wanted charge for cottage removed from my credit card. When I hung up, had voice message from owner. No plow person available, apparently. I called her back, repeated that I wanted refund. The next day, refund of about 84 percent of the charge was initiated, but there was a reference to a service fee. I sent message to owner, said I was not going to pay service fee for this fiasco. She responded that if I would send my mailing address, she would send check for difference between the charge and refund. I sent address; she didn’t acknowledge. Two weeks later (Feb. 24) I sent a message, asking whether she had mailed check. No response. On March 1, I left voice message, saying I hadn’t heard from her, hadn’t received check, and asked her to tell me what was going on. No response. It is now March 4 -- three weeks of silence, no check. I would prefer to rate only communications and overall experience, but must rate the cottage, too, even though I couldn’t stay there. I did mostly one-star ratings, but wish I could assign LESS than one star for communications and overall experience.

Savannah Sands -Muskegon

The road construction on Beach St caused a bit of confusion as to how to get to the cottage and a bit of difficulty with the lock box was frustrating but overall it was a quiet & relaxing time. We would indeed rent this cottage again. Two suggestions however would be a thorough carpet cleaning in the two bedrooms and trimming the lilac bush beside the porch for a better view of Lake Michigan. We very much enjoyed our stay! Thank you.

About the host

Host profile image
My mother and I just bought this cottage in May 2014 as an investment in my daughter's future. In her honor, we named our new cottage Savannah Sands!

Why they chose this property

Adorable and affordable, off the road and quiet—but still right on the beach! A true get away. Perfect for families, couples, or friends.
Gorgeous location! Beach in the summer, luge and winter sports in the winter! We also have a sister cottage next door, rent both for a larger friend/family get together!

What makes this property unique

Across the street form Pere Marquette beach-the large very clean public beach in Muskegon with concessions and a wonderful playground right on the beach. There is a great BBQ restaurant right on the beach, The Deck, with live music all summer. Also, in walking distance, is Dockers, a seafood/steak restaurant on the Marina. Our cottage is all season, and it is very beautiful here in Winter! One guest was able to finish her book one winter, staying at this rental!
