Perfect girls trip

We have an annual trip to Deersville to participate in the Muddy Princess in Tippecanoe. We enjoy the atmosphere at Deersville and the history of the houses we stay in. We greatly enjoyed this house as it was right near the quaint general store. The house was very clean and welcoming. We would consider this house again for our stay next year.

Lovely Historic Home

We spent two nights at Hazel's House, and absolutely loved it! The home is so charming and cozy. It was just like spending the weekend at a friends house. Oh, and the steam shower was amazing!! What a wonderful weekend away for us, as well as our two dogs. Thank you for sharing, and we hope to stay again!

Family Gathering for a Birthday Celebration

The property was perfect for my family. The house was lovely and the kitchen was amazing. The one thing that really surprised me was that the house was larger than the pictures portrayed. All seven of us were very happy with the house, the yard and outdoor area.

Beautiful home with lots of history!

We loved staying at Hazels House! Abbie was a wonderful host who has thought of so many details to make your stay better! Lots of fluffy white towels in the beautifully appointed bath, family size outdoor table for al fresco dining, and designer touches throughout. All questions promptly answered and my son had an amazing time catching jars of fireflies after dinner. Would highly recommend for a getaway. Thanks Abbie!

Lovely historic house with a great host

This house is lovely. It's well kept and has some fantastic amenities. We want to come back just to enjoy the kitchen and hot tub! Perfect for a family of four and a dog. Great yard to run in and the ice cream at the general store was delish. The town is very small (just a few buildings and we found plenty to do with in 35mins of the house : train museum, community park with amusement rides for under 4-5yr olds, the lake for swimming and boating, relaxing at the house and more. Abigail was a great host and everything was easy and affordable.

This home was perfect for our family.

Having the unique country store beside the home was a bonus. The location was perfect for boating fun at Tappen Lake. The kitchen was perfect for our home cooked family meals. Our hostess was attentive to our needs, helpful and understanding when our granddaughter broke a vintage crock! Oops SORRY! Homes like this are true gems and it is nice to see them restored for all to enjoy. The owner has personal history with this home and her passion to share it is most appreciated. We look forward to visiting again.

Great host, house, accomodations, and location

I accidentally found this treasure while searching for a short spring break get away with the family. This was a fantastic vacation with the family. The weather was windy which kept knocking the internet out. This was the only semi issue of the whole trip. One of my requirements was reliable internet as my wife and I were suppose to work. Thankfully, we had the time and flexibility to take the week off. The hot tub, claw foot tub, sauna, heated floor, well stocked kitchen, and fenced in back yard was a huge win and totally worth the forced unplugging. We will be back!

Beautiful Home!

We had a great weekend away in Deersville at Hazel’s House. I love the way the home is decorated & the lakes being nearby is fantastic for all ages. The one thing I would say is the house has a lot of steps - so if you have someone who has issues with steps I would stay at her other Deersville property which is fantastic!

Unnerving Historic Home

The house was in a wonderful location. Much of the house was beautiful. We especially loved the kitchen windows, front porch swing and the General Store next door. However, the house has some electrical issues and some mold in the downstairs bathroom. When we touched the stove, dishwasher or light switch in the bathroom we received a slight shock. It made all of us feel uneasy. Our host came over as soon as we phoned her with the issue. But she dismissed the situation as not really a big deal. We felt as though we had an obligation to tell others about this issue. Check to make sure these issues have been resolved before renting this house.

About the host

Host profile image
I grew up in Texas but my roots are in Deersville. This is my great grandparent's home and I spent every summer here until it was sold years ago. It is a dream come true to own my grandpa's house in Deersville!

Why they chose this property

Hazel was my grandmother and she grew up here as did my mother. This house is beautiful and we restored her to original 1850's beauty but added our Texas touches. Fully furnished kitchen and bath, everything you need to relax or explore.

What makes this property unique

The 100 year old Deersville General Store is right next door with their world famous homemade ice cream! You will love the peace and quiet at Hazel's House. But this little village is a busy place in the summer with the Deersville Community Players theater productions on weekends and Tappan Lake and Clendenning Lake Parks literally just down the road. The Buckeye Trail loop is nearby for hiking, and miles of scenic byways wind their way through Harrison County. Amish country is an hour away and check out the Train Museum and depot in Dennison, 12 miles west. Or you can simply relax on the porch swing and do nothing at all.
