Fantastic getaway!

Thirteen friends spent a weekend at this incredible property and the photos did not prepare us for the peaceful, private setting! Everything was first-class, from the well-stocked Viking kitchens to the comfiest beds throughout. Marti has created a retreat that is luxurious yet cozy. Amazing property. All you have to add is fun friends or family and you will have the time of your life!

The owner is amazing and her home is absolutely a home. It feels comfortable and provides the amenities of a five star hotel! Loved this property. Owners were so welcoming. Fresh flowers and fruit. We felt appreciated. Check in and out process was easy. Internet was bad. However we understand that was secondary to weather. Everything else was perfect.

Multi-Family Reunion -- Perfect Place to Reconnect and Interact for All Ages!

Four families with a wide age range of kids enjoyed the ranch for a weekend reunion retreat. The property offers an ideal combination of common space to accommodate large gathering and meals, with a multitude of more intimate spaces --from the secret garden to the pergola to the pool deck and the renovated barn-- to encourage more small group interaction away from the main crowd. The pool and the property trails kept the kids busy, with media options for the rare inclement weather or evenings. The mountain views are spectacular, the wildlife abounds, and the thoughtful extra touches, from firewood to easy outdoor music with a plug-in for your iPods, etc, made the ranch a PERFECT site for our reunion. Every family said we should do this again every year, and do it at the Sacred Mountain Retreat!

Delightful!!!

Spent a long weekend at Sacred Mountain Retreat with 12 of my girlfriends. Found the property to far exceed my highest expectations! All of the rooms were comfortable and beautifully appointed. The grounds and amenities were impeccable. The best part for me was their were several places we could gather as a group for dining and conversation, but also several places for solitude and reflection. Everything we could possible need was provided, including cast iron teapots throughout. The views and vistas are absolutely stunning, and wildlife abounds. If shopping is your thing, Julian is right down the road, and offers many delightful shops. I could not possible offer a higher recommendation for the home, the hospitality, the amenities, and the wonderful experiences at Sacred Mountain Retreat.

In a word...amazing!

We were lucky enough to celebrate my parent's 50th wedding anniversary at Sacred Mountain Retreat. We had a lovely lunch on the deck, where there is plenty of seating for our large family of 16. The property is exactly as described above and even more beautiful than the photos! My daughters loved playing in the adorable playhouse, large lawn area, and of course in the pool. I appreciated the pool house equipped with a refrigerator, bathroom, and outdoor shower. We were able to stay for a whole week so we had plenty of time to drive into Carlsbad for a beach day and take the kids to Sea World on another day. Both trips only took a little over an hour (one way). We also enjoyed hiking the trails on the property and at Santa Ysabel Reserve. The kids had an awesome experience going horseback riding at the stables right across from the barn-house. We made some amazing memories at Sacred Mountain Retreat...I hope to return someday!

Just like home...but better!

Ahhh, Sacred Mountain is like a cozy helping of home, the kind of home you dream of! The accommodations are ideal, from the comfortable beds to the glowing candles...it is the quintessential place to retreat whether you are writing a novel or planning a reunion, there is not one thing you need to bring with you other than food, it is all there. As for food, the nearby stores suffice and an apple pie is a short walk away. Nature is in abundance here! My favorite thing to do at Sacred Mountain is to grab a down pillow off the bed, prop it on the long bench on the deck, lay down with a bottle of wine on the built in ottoman, and read a book! You will quickly discover as I did, you are not alone. Birds of every color fly directly overhead, bunnies and squirrels scurry by, and deer gave up and watch you read. It is the perfect place to doze off! At night, don't forget to heat up one of the amazing spas and star gaze! Oh, and the owner, Marti, is just as charming as the home.

Just What Our Family Needed

There are certain getaways a family will always remember. For our family this will be one of them. Spending three nights last weekend at Sacred Mountain Retreat was a deeply relaxing time of being fully in the presence of each other, playing in the snow, and enjoying the amenities of the property-like relaxing in the built-in Jacuzzi, playing as a family on the large grassy fields, and warming up next to the wood burning stove, to name a few. The property’s three living spaces provided ample accommodations for our family of eighteen. The buildings were so unique that many of us rotated where we slept each night to experience each of these thoughtfully furnished locations. Another cool feature of the property was our ability to all eat together in the same dining area. In several spots there were large farmhouse tables that were perfect for our family. The property was exactly as described in the listing. From our initial contact to our checking out, the owners were beyond gracious, making sure that our stay exceeded expectation. Since Sacred Mountain Retreat was gorgeous in the winter, we hope to return in the summer and see how beautiful it is then as well.

Are you sure we weren't on some luxury ranch in Montana?

Just spent the weekend here with a group of friends and am already aching to go back. Its the strangest thing, after you park and walk through the gates, you feel like you are much further away. Like in another state, Colorado? Montana? Clearly a lot of care has been put into the property to make it luxurious, unique and extremely comfortable. While the main house is not an amazing building itself (more like a friend's nice home than a resort), some important remodeling and so many small touches build up to a great vacation home (very clean, great linens, yummy soaps and candles, quality kitchen supplies, very comfortable furnishings and oh-my-goodness-the-beds!) Same for the guest house. But then there is the barn house - wow! What a magical place. All I can say is an evening on that deck, under the stars, is heavenly. The pool is beautiful. The property is gorgeous. And the views are to die for. This is great location for a family reunion, an executive team retreat, or even a long weekend celebration with friends. I can't wait to go back. I dont think the photos here do it justice! BTW - I hear you can walk into old Julian for some apple pie, and although it seems close enough, I can't imagine leaving the property.

My own personal sanctuary

We took a much needed get away and the second we arrived we couldn't stop smiling! We pulled in the long driveway not knowing what to expect and our first view (beside the main house) was a beautiful deer hopping through the grass saying hello, which was so exciting for my kids (and myself)! That was just the beginning of a few amazing days. There is every accommodation you could possibly need, you want for nothing in this place! Direct tv in each room if you even have time to turn it on, a fully stocked kitchen, wifi, etc. The pool was amazing and tranquil and fully stocked with adult and children's toys. The grounds were absolutely fantastic, something new to investigate at every turn. The bunnies made everyone laugh, there were wild turkeys in the distance, horses walking by. The drive to town is extremely close but honestly unless you want a pie there is no need :-) At night the view from the amazing deck at the old barn was something that quite can't be explained until you see it. If only there was a telescope...... I don't think there was a star that couldn't be seen. I would recommend this sacred mountain to absolutely anyone. Can't wait to go back! And when we were leaving, that same beautiful deer appeared to wish us safe travels. Absolutely majestic,

A New Tradition

Bliss. From the minute my friend and I walked through the gate, we knew we were in for the kind of memory that keeps you company during long stretches stuck in LA, braving the smog and traffic. In fact, there were several times over the weekend when I was so obviously in the middle of what was going to be an amazing memory that I had to convince myself not to get nostalgic for what was still happening right in front of me. This isn't a memory yet, it's actually happening, it really is this nice, try to hold on. Now I'm back in LA, alas, working to meet the next in an endless cycle of deadlines and demands. Now, the weekend actually is a memory, keeping me company at my desk. Like all memories, I'll carry it with me -- walking through the door to hear the laughter of my friends who'd already arrived, waking up to see the ranch for the first time in the full light of day, walking into town to purchase the toothbrush I thought I forgot ... I'll carry them all, in the hope that the memories eventually grow into something more. Maybe a tradition -- something to both look back on and look forward to. A home away from home. - Written by T.S.

Paradise Found!

In early November, I took a group of fathers and their 8 year old kids for a weekend getaway at Sacred Mountain Retreat. We were looking to escape from our hectic day-to-day lives and bond with our children in a new, comfortable and relaxed setting. We wanted them to get an experience unlike what they are used to at home, and SMR created a magical weekend for all of us. The drive from San Diego was beautiful, as we drove through rural areas and farm properties on the way to Julian. Awesome views that transported us into a different place. The property itself is absoutely gorgeous! It is a unique estate located on acres and acres of land. Rolling hills all around. Views of mountains, hiking trails, horses all around. After coming through the rustic gate, you see the buildings of the main house, the rustic barn, and cottages. There were beautiful lawns, landscaping, trees, decks, and a big swimming pool that connected it all together. The dads and kids were hanging throughout the property. Despite having almost 30 folks at the retreat, there was plenty of room for us to roam around with our children and connect. The property was totally peaceful and made us feel free and alive! The living areas were top notch! Rooms were nice and comfortable, comparable to a 5 star resort. The cooking areas were large and has the latest appliances, which made cooking for our gang a blast. One afternoon, we explored the various hiking trails behind the property and went on a horse back ride, as there is a company that operates a stable on the property. At night, we setup the projector and screen in the horse coral area and enjoyed movie night under the stars. We spent late nights around the firepit roasting marshmellows. A unique experience! The team that manages the property was amazing! Marti, the owner, showed me the property a few weeks prior to the trip. She was very accomodating and wanted to make this a special weekend for us. I had the pleasure of working with her manager Terri leading up to the event, on the various details. When our crew arrived, everything was absolutely perfect! Terri was checking in on us throughout the weekend, to make sure that we were okay. Incredible customer service! She treated us like we were their friends and not just a group "renting their place". Very personal and attentive service. The property and weekend far exceeded our expectations. Thank you! We can't wait for the next trip to SMR.

Amazing stay and it SNOWED!

Property was amazing. We overpacked because they had EVERYTHING we could possibly need. We especially loved the set up of the various bedrooms which gave us all some privacy while still being close by. It would be great to have the hot tubs heated upon arrival, but beyond that, it was perfect. We hope to come back soon!

A perfect gathering place

We spent six glorious days at Sacred Mountain. The location, the views were spectacular, and the place carefully designed to encourage gathering, as well as offering plenty of quiet spaces to spread out. We were welcomed with a giant bowl of fruit and wine, and snacks in the pantry. It was fun to have different outdoor spaces to enjoy at different times, heavenly to swim under the canopy of trees, fun to visit the horses down the road and taste-test Julian apple pies. The manager was very helpful and prompt in responding to requests. All three generations of us loved every minute.

Magical Place to Have a Wedding

I had my wedding here in May 2018 and it was amazing. The staff were helpful in the set up and breakdown of the event, and the property is something out of a feature in a Home & Garden magazine. The interior of the residences/buildings on the property are so tastefully designed, even hanging out indoors feels like a luxury. It is well taken care of and very well stocked - we will be making it a tradition to come back every anniversary. Thanks Marti, Megan, and Robyn for the outstanding trip and service. You made our special day one that we will remember for the rest of our lives :)

Absolutely Amazing

We rented out Sacred Mountain Retreat for our recent wedding and we could not be any happier that we did. Marti and her staff were incredible and made sure we felt so taken care of throughout the whole planning process and during the event itself! Our guests were absolutely blown away by how beautiful the property was and enjoyed being able to stay at the retreat. The houses and accommodations are beautiful and everyone felt like they were staying at a five-star resort. The property was perfect for families and couples looking to enjoy a weekend away. We had several children staying with us for the weekend and they thoroughly enjoyed getting to go visit the horses, play in the playhouse and run around and explore the property. Their parents enjoyed getting to experience a mountain retreat, while also having the adorable town of Julian close by. As for the wedding itself, Marti, Megan and Melanie all made sure that the planning process went smoothly for us. They had contacts for vendors we needed and had recommendations on-hand and ready when we asked. Gabe and Daniel made sure all of our furniture was delivered to the correct areas around the property and were available for us if we needed anything over the weekend. Weddings are great, but they are also incredibly stressful and having the staff at Sacred Mountain there to help was something I will forever be grateful for. My friends and family have nothing but amazing things to say about our experience at the retreat and anyone who books here is in for a treat!

Breathtaking

Booked for our wedding and had our closest friends and family stay with us. It was spectacular.!! The whole ranch had everything we could possibly need. Beds were extremely comfortable, felt like we were sleeping on a cloud. Had some technical difficulties with both hot tubs, but the on site ranch hand was very kind and came right away to assist. Marti and Melanie were always very professional and helpful from the moment we spoke. Hope to one day Book the ranch again!

An amazing stay!

We traveled with 3 other families (16 total) to this amazing property for a "friend reunion". We ranged in ages of 12 to age 60. Being separated on the property a bit was a good thing with our young adult children (20's) who liked a bit of space (they were in the barn) while the rest of us stayed at the main house and the carriage house. We often ate each meal in a different location (all the beautiful outdoor areas to dine). We were astounded at the details that were in this property. Everything you could need (in the kitchen or the bedrooms/bathrooms) was already there for us. It was hot during our stay in July but the pool was a perfect temperature and there was great air conditioning in all rooms/locations. We saw tons of wildlife as well as birds, squirrels, etc. Top notch in all facets of our stay! We will definitely be back.

A fantastic place to spend Christmas. We had snow and a magical family time.

The house is fabulous. We were a family of 10 with teenagers and a grandmother and the house was spacious and comfortable with enough space for everyone to have their own space plus great commons areas. The owner is very attentive and the house is very well stocked. It worked for everyone and that's not always easy to do. It was a perfect for for our family's needs and one of the "best Christmases ever". We would love to return in the summer sometime.

Gorgeous serene setting with upscale charm and natural beauty at every turn.

Sacred Mountain provided the perfect setting for a fall celebration where we hosted dinner parties and breakfast for 25 friends and family during our stay. To a person, they were "blown away" with the beauty of the property and how much it added to our whole event. Many people traveled a long way to be there and without question, the amenities and setting made it incredibly special and worthwhile. We enjoyed using all the levels (decks, lawn area, barn) for music, dining, dancing, stargazing and relaxing at breakfast. Marti and her staff were outstanding with every detail, going out of their way to ensure we had the best possible experience all along the way. Those who stayed on the property with us loved their accommodations, whether in the carriage house, the cottage or the barn. We looked at a lot of properties to hold this event, but when we saw this, we knew immediately it was "us", all confirmed by everyone who spent time there. And we all love the cute town of Julian, a stone's throw away. If you want to be able to rave about where you stayed, this is the place. We recommend Sacred Mountain for almost any occasion when you want to "take it up a notch", and enjoy country, casual, elegant. We hope to go back again for another stay!
