Swiss chalet type house with exposed douglas fir beams. Back of home has all windows opening to deck and forest. 2 bedrooms with open loft for 3rd bedroom, with 2 baths. Sleeps 6 people but open to a larger group. Has modern appliances including sub zero refrigerator, dishwasher, washer/dryer, high speed internet with television. Open kitchen, great for entertaining with large table that seats 20. Glass enclosed shower downstairs with tub/hand shower upstairs. Quiet forest surrounding with some trails and country roads for walking. Near all of Berkshire lakes, trails, arts and country life. 20 minutes from all shopping.

The house was comfortable and we especially enjoyed the view of the outdoors from every window. The kitchen was well eqipped and the gas grill worked well. The proximity to two beautiful hiking trails was an extra plus.

Amazing Stay

Bright and Warm Mountain Retreat

Family Gathering for a Matriarch’s Laying to Rest

The property is incredible in its unique location and dwelling’s construction. The timber frame build is one that I for one had never witnessed in person. The space offered within its walls was perfect for our family of five. The serenity and peace offered by the surroundings was wonderful and just right for each of us. We gathered there to lay to rest my Mother’s remains to rest and we all had the quiet to reflect and grieve individually. Laura is a wonderful hostess and provided great communication from the reservation throughout our stay. The structure is fabulous and while projects remain in progress, it serves my family and me perfectly well for the seven nights we were privileged to spend there.

comfortable home with a beautiful view

i spent the weekend here with a college friend -- we had such a lovely time. the house was clean, the view is wonderful, and we went hiking nearby. would definitely recommend this home, and would definitely return.

Quiet, surrounded by nature

Our family absolutely loved our stay! We all commented that we would love to one day live in a place like this! :-) Gorgeous home (clean & welcoming) and gorgeous wooded area (loved sitting by the babbling brook)!!! Overall wonderful, relaxing experience. Would come back in a heart beat!

Wooded, remote and cozy

We really enjoyed staying in this warm and relaxing space. It was the end of winter and we had lovely walks both out back and at the historic properties 20 min away. Nice, cozy/romantic place, equipped with plenty of good music, books and games, comfortable beds and fine bathrooms/kitchen.

Perfect times in Peru!

Laura's terrific timber frame home was the perfect early March reset that my family needed! Coming from Albany, NY; Peru was a perfect halfway point enroute to a conference that we were attending in Amherst. The home was cozy, well appointed, and had eclectic decor. Even though it has a small footprint, it felt spacious. With March weather being unpredictable, we had an outside fire one evening and snow the next. It made the forest surrounding the property look absolutely enchanting! Many thanks for a wonderful getaway!

Great Place

The house is quite large and with all amenities you would have home. The location is inside a state forest, with absolute quiet and crispy clean air . As remote as it sounds, it's only 20 minutes from Pittsfield, with a large mall including two supermarkets , Walmart, Home Depot, Starbucks and many more. I highly recommend Patrick's Pub , great food and beer with reasonable prices. If you don't mind driving a beat more through a beautiful scenery and go to Great Barrington, you can find great local restaurants and our favorite pizza Baba Louie's. Otherwise the host has thought of everything, house is stacked with the necessary toiletries/paper products, and much more.

Beautiful Berkshires retreat

What an absolutely wonderful home to enjoy the beauty of the Berkshires! Perfect for our large family of 5! The house was fully stocked with anything one could need! We really enjoyed cooking some of our meals in the kitchen. Our kids really enjoyed the large fire pit in the backyard and checking out the stream and beaver dam a short walk through the backyard. The location is great for exploring all the Berkshires has to offer- within 20-40 min drives: Mt Greylock for hiking, all the cute towns like Stockbridge, Lenox and North Adams, swam in waterfalls and enjoyed the peace and quiet and slower pace for the week. There were awesome movies and games and puzzles at the house too. Grocery stores, gas and big town comforts were a short drive away in Pittsfield. We liked the restaurant up the road “Listons” and found yummy coffee in Dalton. Laura felt like a family friend hosting you at her house- great communication and all the amenities top notch. I miss waking up to those huge windows overlooking the beautiful backyard and sky!

Fully equipped & stocked throughout. Owner was easy to work with. In a beautiful part of the state with the most beautiful views from every road. It’s was a wonderful time. Make sure when you are booking that you take into consideration that the drive time is double the number of miles to and from your events as there are mostly country roads with an average mph of 30. But, that is where all the beauty is.

This is a very nice property and a unique house. It backs into woods and a state forest, up on the top in one of the Berkshire hilltowns on a dead end road, so it is very quiet. However it is a short drive to the larger towns of Hinsdale and Dalton.The house has an open floor plan and loft. Two bedrooms are private and one is in the loft. The kitchen is fully stocked with utensils and appliances. Heat worked well for our stay in October. There is a piano and a nice fire pit outside.

Amazing location and beautiful property

We stayed here a couple of years ago and were excited to return. Not too far from north Hampton and enjoyed some nice hikes and time with family. Perfect spot for relaxing.

Delightful nature

The house was warm, comfortable, tasteful, and had everything we needed. It was delightfully free of the corporate chain feel of some rentals, it felt like staying at a friend’s home. We enjoyed seeing the beaver pond and listening to the woodpeckers and other birds. We had a lovely time and would love to return!

Peaceful cabin in the woods

We spent the weekend between hectic college visits and it was the rest we needed. I felt my blood pressure fall as soon as we walked I. The house. It has just snowed and it was so quiet and beautiful. I heard an owl in the evening. WiFi was excellent. The kitchen was well stocked. The beds were super comfy. The beams of the house were so cool to look at. Laura responded quickly to our few messages. Would definitely stay again!

Couldn't have been better

We've rented a lot of houses over the years; this is exactly what you look for in a rental house. Everything was at least as described verbally and visually (but in most cases, better). The house was very clean; comfortable and cozy, beds very comfortable; kitchen well-appointed with everything we needed. My husband and I built this house ten years ago. Much of the finishing materials and many of the fixtures were recycled from many NYC condo renovations since we are in the construction business. The house is a work in progress- this year we plan to work the grounds with blueberry bushes and more trails through the forest along the creek.

Why they chose this property

The best part about this location is the quiet peaceful location. It is near the country towns ('hilltowns') where there are many small farms and artisans. And it is in the Berkshires with all the cultural activities they have to offer. We find it is an oasis for our family compared to the city life we lead. Now that our daughters are grown, I find it was helpful for them to have known a different style of life our life Brooklyn.

What makes this property unique

My first idea about building this house was it would be similar to camping in comfort.
The timber frame of the house was designed and built by a Swiss Company in British Columbia, Canada. The timbers are from douglas fir trees. At the time it was one of 3 built with the same design. The same company also built many Chalets in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.
